For today's MM textures I have selected a bag that once contained Blue Mountain coffee from Jamaica. I think I bought it locally though and the coffee did not taste as delicious as when you drink the original Blue Mountain coffee in the hills of Jamaica and listen to Bob Marley.
I added a tiny spoon which looks like it's made from bamboo and ground coffee. What you see here is just under 3"

Istra river and colors of autumn.
Istra is a river in the Moscow region of Russia, a left tributary of the Moscow River. Together with the reservoir formed on the river, it is part of the water supply system of the city of Moscow. In the middle of the 17th century, the Moscow Patriarch Nikon was named Jordan.
The first mention of the Istra River dates back to 1461 and is contained in the spiritual letter of the Grand Duke Vasily Vasilyevich.
The length is 113 km, the area of the basin, which includes about 190 watercourses with a total length of 885 km, is 2050 km². The width of the river in the lower reaches is 17-30 meters, the depth is 1.0-1.5 meters, the speed of the current is 0.1-0.3 m / s, the bottom is sandy. Ichthyofauna is represented by such fish species as roach, bleak, dace, minnow, ruff, perch, bream; chub, gudgeon, char, ide, asp are found in catches below the Istra hydroelectric complex. The river is popular with hikers and water tourists. On the river is the city of Istra, as well as numerous settlements, sanatoriums and rest houses.
The Resurrection New Jerusalem Monastery is located on the river.
In 1885, the artist Isaac Levitan came to Istra for sketches and was struck by the beauty of these places.

The Roman Forum's Temple of Venus and Roma, once Rome's largest temple, was designed by Emperor Hadrian himself and formally dedicated to the goddesses Venus Felix (the bringer of good fortune, representing amor {love}) and Roma Aeterna (Eternal Rome) in 135 A.D.
The temple once contained two connecting chambers, each of which represented one of the two divinities. Statues of both goddesses, Venus and Roma, were seated back-to-back on thrones where the chambers adjoined, each facing into her own chamber. (This placement was very deliberate, of course, since 'amor' is 'roma' spelled backwards.)
My little pencil sharpener (less than 1inch) contain a very cute alien ;)

This is the largest of the Phrygian rock-cut facade monuments, measuring 17 m x 16.50 m. It represents the front of a Phrygian megaton type building with low-pitched roof. It is known locally as “Yazılıkaya” (Written Rock) because of the Paleo-Phrygian inscriptions carved on the rock above it along the right side, and in the niche. The upper inscription dedicates the monument to a King Midas, and so it is also known as the “Midas Monument.” The niche probably contained an image of the Phrygian Mother Goddess, and the word “Matar” (Mother) is inscribed there. The monument was carved sometime between the 8th and 6th century BC.
Phrygian Yazılıkaya is located in the area of the Phrygian Valley, in Eskişehir Province, on a plateau that also bears the name Yazılıkaya, at an altitude of over 1,300 meters above sea level. The site dominates the plain, rising about 70 meters above the surrounding terrain. It covers an area 650 meters long, and 320 meters wide.
GPS coordinates: 39.200298, 30.713800

A dandelion cast in acrylic stands on the desk. intended as a paperweight. It is illuminated from above with an LED lamp and has thus become an art project. Depending on how it is illuminated or how it changes its location it presents itself in a new way.
I wish all friends a peaceful 2020, which should delight us with the beauty of our earth and peace.

I can appreciate a good cup of coffee. Especially when it is 'decorated'. Mostly it is a heart, but on this occasion not ;-))
Have a nice start of this week, with or without coffee.

Fortunately, while visiting Cappadocia, we made a short trip to the Ihlara valley, which I always wanted to visit. It was a wonderful experience to se the lush valley, and in an otherwise very hot and dry landscape. We probably walked/ hiked about 5 miles along the canyon and discovered some of the many caves that contained churches from the 7th-11th century. A mind-blowing experience.
You have to imagine the walls of the canyon just beyond the trees and the trail effortlessly leads you in.

This is just part of the structures at the mine. It opened in 1900 and closed down in 1943. Cinnabar was mined for the mercury that was contained within. It's located on River Road East at Big Bend National Park, Texas.
Egyptian Goose - Alopochen Aegyptiacus
Once common along the entire Nile valley and regarded as sacred in ancient times, the Egyptian Goose is no longer an easy bird to see in the country from which it takes its name, as it is largely confined to upper Egypt. It is, however, widespread and common throughout sub-Saharan Africa, with introduced populations firmly established in England, Holland, Belgium and France. Concerns over conflict with native species has led to restrictions on keeping them in Britain and Europe.
This distinctive small goose is a member of the shelduck family. In the wild it is invariably found in pairs or family parties, while flocks of 50 or more can be found after the breeding season. The sexes are similar: both have a conspicuous chestnut patch encircling the eyes, giving them a somewhat piratical appearance, while the brilliant white forewing is obvious when they fly.
The UK Invasive Alien Species (Enforcement and Permitting) Order 2019 came into force on Sunday 1st December. The Order implements requirements contained in EU Regulation 1143/2014 on Invasive Alien Species, which sets out rules to prevent and minimise the impact of the introduction and spread of non-native animals and plants across the EU. The Order makes it an offence, amongst other things, to import, keep, sell, transport, breed or release into the environment, any of the listed plants and animals. Invasive alien waterfowl currently covered by this Order are Egyptian Geese and Ruddy Ducks Oxyura jamaicensis.
Stupas were originally earth mounds that contained Buddha's relic. Stupas in India and Sri Lanka are usually brick mounds with some external decorations. With the spread of Buddhism, stupas transformed to artistic tower structures in Theravada Buddhist countries. Stupas in Mahayana Buddhist countries including Vietnam do not only build towers but also the towers should have stories with roofing.
There is a tradition in Mahayana Buddhism that the stories must be an odd number, and 3, 5, 7 stories are considered to be within the common sense. But here in Chùa Tam Bảo or the Tam Bao temple in Ha Tien, the stupa has 13 stories!!
Pagoda is another word for Buddhist stupas, in particular, those in Northeast Asia.
The word has the Portuguese origin. I suppose it is a back slang or verlan of Dagoba, which means Buddhist stupas in the Shinhara language of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka had been a Portuguese colony from 1505 to 1658..

It's a late one this week, but once I realised this coat button might double up as a mini bowl I couldn't resist and managed a quick session after work today!
The button measures just 2cm. across.

As Ecuador's highest mountain, Chimborazo is a very popular climb and can be climbed year round with the best seasons being December–January and July–August.
The easiest (IFAS Grade: PD) and most climbed routes are the Normal and the Whymper route. Both are western ridge routes starting at the Whymper hut and leading via the Ventemilla summit to the main (Whymper) summit.
There are several other less used and more challenging routes on the other mountains faces and ridges leading to one of Chimborazo's summits:
Main (Whymper, Ecuador),
Politecnico (Central),
N. Martinez (Eastern).
The mountain is contained on the IGM (Instituto Geografico Militar) 1:50000 Map Chimborazo (CT-ÑIV-C1).
This is the calm before all the fall colours arrive in two weeks. North Lake has been calm since USFS closed down The Inyo National Forest because of the CA wildfires. Hopefully it will open back up, before all the fall colours are gone. With the creek fire not being contained much, this area will probably be closed for weeks :(
If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water.

The Kenwood Park Water Tower is an octagonal brick and stone water tower in the Kenwood neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. It was built in 1910 and designed by Frederick William Cappelen, the city of Minneapolis engineer at the time. The tower is 110 feet tall, making it the tallest structure in Kenwood. The tower has not been used to store water since 1954. The tower was built to alleviate water pressure and storage problems in the Lowry Hill area. Although the tower is not the work of a master architect or representative of a specific architectural style, its design is distinctive. It is ornamented with projecting ribs, narrow rectangular windows, and Lombard bands, suggesting a medieval fortress. The tower serves as a distinct visual focus within the neighborhood.
Three tiny Chocolate Teddybears
Travelling in a Box
Were chased around by a little Fox
Which was not successful
But for the Bears quite stressful
However, they could escape
And even kept their Shape
In the Box they’ve been living happily
But for the Fox it was of course ….

#Bottles(s)
Please press "Z".
This is the base of a green glass bottle that once contained white wine and now is a vase. I often keep beautiful bottles, big or small, just because they look nice. I use them as decorative objects, as colour filters for tabletop photography, or as vases. And when I saw this bottle, I bought it specifically because it looked so nice (hoping that the content would be nice as well – it was), and with the intention of turning it into a vase. There's a glasser around my corner who has cut off the necks of quite a few bottles for me, as the DIY methods you can find on YouTube seemed too unsafe for me to do it myself. When I turned the bottle upside down, I noticed the really interesting-looking circular pattern at the base consisting of many tiny indendations. I've experimented with light from different positions, and backlit (with a hint of red light slightly from the front / above) brought out the patterns best.
There's also a bit of an optical illusion here, because the whole bottle base is convex (as to be expected), and the circle at the centre is a convex shape of its own, even though in the final image it looks concave, sort of bulging. And with those two extra, almost V-shaped indentations at the centre it reminded me of a reptile's eye staring right at me ;)
The "V" shape at the centre is 0,5 cm / 0,19 inches long, and the circle itself has a diameter of 2,5 cm / 0,98 inches. It's a single shot processed in DXO PhotoLab 5, with further tweaks in Analog Efex (vignette, Vintage Camera 5), and in Color Efex (Brilliance & Warmth, Detail Extractor, Photo Stylizer).
HMM, Everyone, take care and stay safe!
