My daughter posing for a fee of £10.00, handheld with overhead natural light

Hello everyone!

With a new decade, a nice new office, what better than to have a revamp of my Second Life home, which if you hadn't seen before, was a small miniature house in the Victorian desert. I love freedom of nature. I'm not fond of the city hustle & bustle, so to adventure and to hike the sensational views, one must fly rural and remote to the outer inland parts of the 'world.' (hehe) My new home is a little larger than the last one I lived in, which surprisingly a lot of you guys liked it a lot and I've been thinking about selling the floor-plan of the home for limited edition, perhaps only 5 copies of it.

If you're a new follower, first of all thanks for following me! You might not have seen my old home, so here is a link to the album; www.flickr.com/photos/jackhanby_grandeurdecorsl/albums/72...

For this home, the colour palate still remains the same, really extracting the complexions of mother nature, and corresponding it with the accented interior highlights throughout. I wanted to play a huge factor on the natural light, with minimal artificial lights throughout. Minimal furnishings and hardware architectural components. Deserts are very beautiful, whilst some might say bland, so I wanted to make sure the modern home itself stood out but in a way which it didn't interfere with the composition it was in, so I've reduced the architectural additions to the home, keeping it simple and living within one's means. This new home is very mature from my previous and more like an art installation within the premises.

In Lisbon, where the intrigue unfolds, this scene appears remarkably like a vignette from the Casablanca film. A bigger mystery is how he is able to maintain a monochrome complexion against a decidedly colorful ambience.

Yes. I'm reaaaaally happy with Emelia's textures.

Of course there's still a lot I want to do - try a different normal map bit for her upper eyelids (sure, seems kinda arbitrary but her eyelids have been bugging me the entire time), see if I can adjust her _sk file, work a little more with the sculpt feature in RM3 (I'm getting better at it! Still have no idea what I'm doing but I'm doing a good job with that), and maybe move her scar from the complexion slider to the actual normal map.

And then I gotta get started on customizing her body diffuse map...

But. I mean. Besides all of that.

SUPERBLY happy.

Hi, my name is Arwa.

I’ve always been interested in expressive art. Growing up as a minority, I’ve come to find out that I stand out a little more than the average person; odd sounding name, slightly darker complexion, different native tongue and culture. All of that gave a statement before I even spoke. My being itself, is an expression. Now that I appreciate my uniqueness, I want to use it to portray my ideas. I’m very into sustainable and modest fashion, but there is only so much I can wear myself, so I decided to start putting my ideas on my friends.

I hope to use multiple mediums to express my work and collaborate with as many local creatives as possible.

Dear Diary:

It has been a while since I had the chance, or the inclination, to write. Centuries, in fact, as it has turned out.

In the aftermath of Miss Frost’s murder I was hesitant to commit anything to writing, for fear of implicating myself and the other ladies of the town who sought retribution against her killers. That episode ended in the most Pyrrhic victory, since, I suppose,

Pyrrhus’s:

The Governor, Miss Frost’s treacherous brother, and their henchmen surely died in the explosion which destroyed the Dysart hotel, rather spectacularly.

In the immediate aftermath of the secondary explosion, from the gas mains, I was later told, something else happened, something quite disorienting: a swirl of some strange energy and a shock the likes of which I had never experienced. I lost consciousness for a brief moment.

When I awoke, I – and my companions – were no longer on New Victoria Street. Rather, we were on some sort of platform, surrounded by immense structures of metal and glass. People- both men and women – in a sort of white uniform ran toward us, but before I could recoil in fear they announced themselves as first aid workers of a sort. When even Miss Dagger relaxed back onto the ground, I had to conclude that whatever had happened, we were in safe hands for the moment.

One of the people, a young man with a most handsome complexion and extraordinarily white, even teeth helped me to my feet – well, between the two of us, Diary, essentially carried me into one of the buildings. The others seemed steadier on their feet – but they had the steel to commit murder (however necessary), while I simply stood by and fretted. Clearly I was made of less stern stuff.

Inside, each of us was escorted off for a medical inspection of sorts. There was much reading off of sheets of glass and waving of strange objects. Amusingly, it felt like some sort of barbarian tribal ritual, but clearly their machinery was advanced beyond the imagination of even Mr. Verne- but that thought led me to a short story I had read by a Mr. Wells, (who was later revealed to be a woman, writing under her brother’s name, but I digress) of travel in time, and some understanding of what had happened to me began to form. Ironically, that would make us the primitives here!

A very stern woman in the same white uniform proceeded to lecture me, reading off another one of those panes of glass, about my utterly unacceptable physical condition. Apparently I was so weak she couldn’t understand how I was able to move under my own power (I do suspect a bit of hyperbole there for effect), and that my lungs looked like the inside of a coal mine. That I was ready to believe, but that was only the beginning of a long and vituperative lecture on the dangers of tobacco, which did quite impress me with its graphic horror.

The woman – a doctor, it turned out! – did explain that we had passed through a “rift,” and were in the future, but not necessarily the future attached to our past, as it were. I did not parse the details very well, still being stuck on “esophageal cancer” and “emphysema.”

She explained that we would receive instruction directly into our minds (no panes of glass!) that would cover the history and culture of our new world, and that we would be assigned someone local to help us in our adjustment.

She did something to a string of tubes, and I promptly fell asleep. My dreams were of all sorts of things: the history, politics, and manners of my new world. The rights and freedoms given to women were quite extraordinary, as was the culture’s lack of taboos around matters of the body.

Thankfully, the Church of the Elder Gods was to be found here as well, but as one of many equal faiths. And women could be found in all ranks of its administration!

While my dreams disgracefully lacked a thorough exploration of the time’s fashions, much could be inferred – and even in my dreams, I could hardly wait to go explore the world’s shops and magazines (more panes of glass, as I correctly supposed).

Upon awakening, the most extraordinarily beautiful woman I had ever seen was to be found at the foot of my bed, reading off, yes, of course, a pane of glass. She set it down and came over to take my hand. She had masses of pale lavender hair, perfect light mocha skin, and glowing violet eyes that seemed to be some distant descendant of the mechanical eyes some Army veterans wore to replace those lost in combat.

“Welcome to the future. I’m Cydonia Wren, and I think we are going to be great friends!”

G'day everyone! As I've studied and been more educated about Interior Design, I've come to understand and learn about what the main focus and strategy is,

behind Interior Design, or Architecture alone. Nature is very important,

it enhances the chemical of where the structure stands, you have to respect natures well being to then accomplish and create a building on mothers land. Once you've accomplished then you will be able to understand it's stance.

Interior Design is mostly inspired by Fashion, the skin complexion of the models

which stand upright, within the landscape, the two define each other and create a

storyline somehow, and usually the Designer will influence the Internals by bringing in the depths of the 'exterior'

such as landscape, but Fashion also allows an Interior Designer to grasp a space, like additional emotions, setting a mood for instincts.

A mid-dry grounds, with weeds of thorn bushes, and long grass, climbing up through the sand dunes, as the wind blows out, swooping down over the rocks,

and the distant town calling out, the red rock, the white sand, the crisp fresh, dry,

sounds of a nature taking its toll. The models stand free, with the wind relapsing itself, through

their hair, clothing with no branding or tagging, to be detached from the day to day routine, and to just connect with the mother nature.

The exterior of the structure was designed by myself, but with the help of a dear man, Thomaz Mulloy,

he was able to transform, the structure and make it into a high definition build with nice quality textures. The build wasn't inspired by anyone but nature,

it's wind protected, meaning the build stands tall at 8 meters high, it's shaped like an 'A' being a windbreaker at the front, protecting the front and back from

strong wind storms, but on peaceful days it looks rather beautiful, with its mighty strength standing but a simple structure to not blind and distract its purpose of being there.

As for the Interior of the space, I've really wanted to respect the exterior landscape by incorporating the Interior colour pallet to be flush, in materials, textures and of course the colour range that I have chosen. Warm soft off-whites,

with rusty worn leather accents, a minimal pattern with tribal print work. The structure is bare to a minimum with wooden features to nitpick from the exterior, to flow into the interior, with the pine and oak trimmings. Minimal greenery but gives the interior some life.

Daddy, do you have a cigarette for me? I think

Maybe it's getting late, maybe time is running out

You know, I knew somebody once, rifled through his drawers

I wasn't that suspicious but you know, these things they happen

But, muñeca, do you have a towel?

See those people gather round

Baby do you have a light?

What's it like in Ohio... baby?

What d'you want to call me, muñeca?

Honey, do you like my dress?

You know, I think the colour pink suits my complexion

Or is it a reflection of the sky outside, you know

Why are those people crowding around?

You know I think your time is running out

What was your name, anyway?

No lipstick on his collar, but maybe it was blood

I don't know to this day, dear

Do you have another, uh...

Did you light that cigarette for me?

Oh, did you leave that on the side?

Do you have another cigarette for me? You know, uh

Well, I had somebody once, ah

You know, we used to cook a lot

Do you like chillis in Ohio?

Muñeca, yo te quiero

Yo te quiero Ohio

Anyway... muy bonito

Where did I leave my matches?

I thought they were on the table there

By the way, did you, uh...?

Do you have some, uh, cash for me

Because you know I have to, uh, get a cab somewhere, after here

You know, I don't want to push you, but, uh

You know, I've got to go some place

There's something burning in the kitchen

Did I put the pepper in?

I don't... uh... oh, dear

You know you have to watch yourself, don't you?

Why are those people crowding round me in the street

It must be like that for you a little bit, huh?

It's a bit of a commotion

Nice meeting you

I have no regrets, but I did feel a little bad, you know?

It's kind of like, you know what it's like"...

I was bored with Blythe so I finally gave my Iplehouse Lonnie some makeup and here she is! Duno how long she will stay here, I cant really bond with young looking bjds like this. I cant dress her sexy since her body is like a 10 yr old. Also, she was supposed to be my creole girl, but her complexion is lighter than I expected (she's 'real skin' complexion which looked a bit tanner in the Iplehouse pics). aarrhhh -____-

March Bracelet / Martis

On March 1st, it is customary for mothers to braid bracelets for their children. These bracelets are called ‘Martis’. They are made of red and white string and are tied onto the wrists of the children.

The superstition is that the children wear these bracelets so that the sun of early spring doesn’t burn their cheeks. The bracelet is red and white, symbolic of rosy cheeks yet a white complexion.

The bracelets are worn until the Midnight Mass of the Greek Orthodox Easter. When the traditional bonfires are lit, the bracelets are removed and thrown into the fires.

Its worth a life time experience to be part of Flower petals Holi at this Temple in Vrindavan.

Holi, the Festival of Colours has been celebrated in India since thousands of years and is now also celebrated by various communities of South Asia including non-Hindu communities.

While Holi is celebrated in almost every part of India, Holi in Braj is especially famous. Braj is a historical region which covers the area of Mathura, Vrindavan,Barsana,Nandgaon and some nearby areas. Holi here attacts tourists and pilgrims from all over the world because of it’s special customs and traditions. Mathura is the birth-place of Lord Krishna and Vrindavan is the place where he grew up in his childhood.

When Krishna was young, he cribbed to his mother about Radha (his friend) being fair while Krishna himself was dark complexioned. His mother (Yashoda) suggested him to colour Radha with colors in a playful manner. Over the years, Krishna from his village Nandgaon used to go to Barsana (Radha’s village) to color Radha and other Gopis. They also used to playfully beat him with sticks. And hence the tradition evolved.

This statue takes place in the Summer Garden....Niobe was a daughter of Tantalus . Niobe boasted of her fourteen children, seven male and seven female (the Niobids), to Leto who only had two children, the twins Apollo and Artemis. It was on occasion of the annual celebration in honor of Latona and her offspring, Apollo and Diana, when the people of Thebes were assembled, their brows crowned with laurel, bearing frankincense to the altars and paying their vows, that Niobe appeared among the crowd. Her attire was splendid with gold and gems, and her face as beautiful as the face of an angry woman can be. She stood and surveyed the people with haughty looks. "What folly," said she, "is this! to prefer beings whom you never saw to those who stand before your eyes! Why should Latona be honored with worship rather than I? My father was Tantalus, who was received as a guest at the table of the gods; my mother was a goddess. My husband built and rules this city, Thebes; and Phrygia is my paternal inheritance. Wherever I turn my eyes I survey the elements of my power; nor is my form and presence unworthy of a goddess. To all this let me add, I have seven sons and seven daughters, and look for sons-in-law and daughters-in-law of pretensions worthy of my alliance. Have I not cause for pride? Will you prefer to me this Latona, the Titan's daughter, with her two children? I have seven times as many. Fortunate indeed am I, and fortunate I shall remain! Will any one deny this?

Using arrows, Artemis killed Niobe's daughters and Apollo killed Niobe's sons. According to some versions, at least one Niobid (usually Meliboea) was spared. Their father, Amphion, at the sight of his dead sons, either killed himself or was killed by Apollo for having sworn revenge. Devastated, Niobe fled back to Mount Sipylus and was turned into stone, and, as she wept unceasingly, waters started to pour from her petrified complexion. Mount Sipylus indeed has a natural rock formation which resembles a female face, and it has been associated with Niobe since ancient times and described by Pausanias. ( Wikipedia)

I have never understood the complex we Indians have about dark complexion. One of the first things people ask about a new bride in someone's family is, invariably about the colour/complexion of the girl. Fairer is somehow equated with more beautiful.

It has to do, I am convinced with our caste system particularly in the Northern India.. The Brahmins (highest caste are invariably the fairest and the shudras (the lowest caste) the darkest.

I feel it is the exact opposite.

The most beautiful of girls, in my eye (and that of my camera) are invariably dark complexioned.

Here is one although she seems quite upset at being photographed :)

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?

Thou art more lovely and more temperate.

Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,

And summer’s lease hath all too short a date.

Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,

And often is his gold complexion dimmed;

And every fair from fair sometime declines,

By chance, or nature’s changing course, untrimmed;

But thy eternal summer shall not fade,

Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st,

Nor shall death brag thou wand’rest in his shade,

When in eternal lines to Time thou grow’st.

So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,

So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

William Shakespeare

Visited an estate sale over the weekend. A local family selling off the contents of a house left by the deceased patriarch. Always feels weird seeing someone's worldly possessions scattered across the lawn and with little price tags attached. All things big and small that played a role in the person's life now up for grabs. It's like peeking into someone's bedroom closet; you know its wrong but you're simultaneously intrigued by what you might discover. My interest here was more into the visual than the physical. I always end up photographing events such as this. Just can't help myself. There are so many odd juxtapositions of eclectic items. Items side by side that were never intended to be together. Indoor items in an outdoor setting. Handmade signs and item descriptions, quickly crafted for the sale that will exist for only. hours or days. I just get swept away in all of this time and again. The shooting style is completely spontaneous. There's no rhyme or reason. I just float around being drawn wherever intuition leads me. I seem to sniff out sadness like someone divining for underground water. This scene stopped me dead in my tracks. I lifted the lid on an old box and came eye to eye with this doll. Incredibly lifelike, to the point where it was actually a bit disconcerting. Something about the eyes, sparkling in the daylight, but with an unseeing quality of a corpse. The complexion was flawless, almost too good, in the way of makeup applied by a mortician that tried bout couldn't quite conceal the deathly pallor. The plastic wrap put me in mind of a burial shroud. I marveled at how something so delicate and beautiful could invoke feelings of sadness and darkness. I wonder why my mind always seeks out life's dark places. Not only seeks them out but revels in and celebrates them. "It's why we have no nice things" is the phrase that comes to mind when someone breaks something. And in this way, metaphorically I'm always breaking something.

Kept thinking about the doll that night and into the following day. I returned to the sale that afternoon to look at the doll one more time, but the little box-casket was gone. I inquired with one of the ladies running the event. She said someone had purchased the doll that morning. She paused for a moment then confided, completely unsolicited, that the doll had creeped her out as well.

I had to get out of the sun for a while....I don't want my lily white complexion to suffer ...LOL

yes i'm looking at you

I took several photos of this street musician. I posted one several years ago and came upon this one in my archives. I love the warm hues and, of course, her wonderful smile.

Had another idea for a creative selfie, but it was going to take too long to put together this evening...I will put it in my project pile...

Hope everyone had a great weekend...thank you for your visits!

Nordico Stadtmuseum Linz

"The term "the Beauty from Linz" dates back to the literature of the Enlightenment and Biedermeier period. The writer Friedrich Nicollai, who also makes a stopover in Linz while on a journey in 1781, describes the beauty of the women of Linz in great detail. He praises "their beautiful figures" and "blooming complexions", "dazzling white skin and soulful eyes". The expression "the Beauty from Linz" is also used to describe servants and cooks working primarily in Viennese households and can be found in plays by Nestroy, Raimund and Herzmanovsky-Orlando."
