Back to 2021 and an image from autumn that never previously got aired......

After a 'leaf-busting' circuit of 19 hours covering many of the lines around the far north-west of England, including the Settle & Carlisle, West Coast Mainline, and the southern end of the Lake District, the previous day's 4.21pm Carlisle Kingmoor TMD out-and-back RHTT (3J11) pauses briefly at Carlisle station waiting on a path for the final mile or two of its journey back to the Yard. DRS 'Shed' 66302 'Endeavour' brings up the rear, with unit 66126 doing the honours at the front.

The recent derailment of the loaded cement train from Clitheroe at Petteril Bridge Junction (just south of here) on October 19th when five tankers, each carrying 80tonnes of powdered cement, fell into the River Petteril, has put rather a different complexion on RHTT activity in the Carlisle area this year. Although the cement has now been extracted, the recovery of the wagons is still ongoing and not now expected until December - which also means access to the Newcastle and S&C routes remains closed for the timebeing.

Back to the image and the platform canopies here bring back memories of my first Tri-ang train-set, a Christmas present in the early 1960s, where the OO gauge station sported something that looked very similar. Given the locomotive in the set was Stanier's LMS Pacific 46205 'Princess Victoria', the style was surely appropriate!

I hope the gent on the left got the shot he was after.

Her soft complexion is creamy white and she smells divine, very sweet and lemony. Her tree sits right outside my dining room window where I drink my coffee in the mornings. When the morning's first light kissed her delicate petals, it was such a beautiful moment that I wanted to share it with all of my flickr friends.

Deep in a red rock canyon where the sandstone has the winter blues, the sun licks at ice puddles melting and rearranging their complexion.

Rosalita was a Guatemalan healer from Todos Santos Cuchumatán, a municipality in the department of Huehuetenango, in the Republic of Guatemala, located in the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes. The Sierra de los Cuchumatanes is located at an altitude of between 3,100 (in the plateau) and 1,500 m. The towns and rural communities that make up Todos Santos Cuchumatán are distributed at these different altitudes. Due to its altitude, the climate is not hot for most of the year, although it can be cold at night, especially in the high latitudes of the mountains, where temperatures drop below freezing. The inhabitants of Todos Santos Cuchumatán belong to the Mam ethnic group. The Mam are a Mayan ethnic group that lives mainly in northeastern Guatemala and the mountainous area bordering Mexico, in southeastern Mexico. They have their own language, Mam, a language of Mayan origin that is also spoken in the Mexican state of Chiapas, which borders northeastern Guatemala While there is physical diversity within the Mam population, the local inhabitants of Mayan and indigenous descent are characterized by high cheekbones and dark brown or even almost completely black eyes. They have broad, flared noses, especially at the nostrils, and their complexion is brown, almost dark. Their hair is generally dark, straight or slightly wavy, and slightly gray in older individuals. They are of medium or short height. And Rosalita, the healer, was an authentic Mam woman, proud of her ethnicity, her traditions, her language, and her culture. What she didn't explain to me was whether she was a shaman as well as a healer. I don't know the reason for her silence, since in the Mayan Mam community, it is accepted that both men and women perform the functions of shaman. Given her rituals, especially those to ward off evil spirits, I suspect she was a shaman as well as a healer. It is also true that Rosalita spoke Spanish poorly... and I speak it even worse, so perhaps she simply didn't understand the question. She was a serious, proud, regal woman of few words. She had a daughter twenty years younger than her, named Rosalba, who looked very much like her. And a granddaughter, Rosalba's daughter, who had the same name as her grandmother, Rosalita. The granddaughter didn't have as many Mam features as her grandmother. Perhaps one day we'll upload photos of Rosalba and Rosalita, the granddaughter. The figure of Rosalita, the grandmother, was important in Todos Santos Cuchumatán. In this rural area, healers are the first choice for medical care for many people. As a healer, Rosalita practiced traditional medicine, combining ancestral knowledge, medicinal herbs, and spiritual practices to treat various ailments. Rosalita told me she had to perform some rituals on me to ward off evil spirits. And she succeeded immediately. But you see... do you do your job well every day? There will probably be days when, for some reason, you don't do it well. An argument with someone, not having slept well, a serious problem... anything can make you have a bad day and not adequately perform your assigned tasks at work. And Rosalita was no exception. Perhaps the day I met her wasn't the best for her. Some problem or not having slept enough was perhaps the reason why she didn't do her job well. It's true that she managed to ward off the evil spirits that were in my life and around me at that time. But what she didn't accomplish that day was to remove the demons I carry in my head. Perhaps it wasn't because of Rosalita's poor work either. In fact, I believe these demons will remain in my mind forever. They know where to hide, they know everything that's inside my head. They know me well and will never leave. They are... my tiny demons...

Tiny Demons - Todd Rundgren

Demons - Fatboy Slim (Ft./Vocals: Macy Gray)

"Demons" is a song by Norman Quentin Cook, known as Fatboy Slim, a British DJ. A mixer of styles such as hip hop, breakbeat, and rock. In addition to creating excellent music, the videos that accompany his songs are some of the best ever created in the music scene. They are musical products with impeccable finishes, from the song to the music video. "Demons" is one of them; in addition to being a great song, it features the unique voice of Macy Gray. Another example of this complete finish with the creation of a great music video is the one that accompanies the song "Weapon Of Choice" which was recorded with one of the best actors in my opinion... the great Christopher Walken.

'Drawn by Light' is a superbly curated photography exhibition at the National Media Museum in Yorkshire and runs until 21 June 2015. I wanted to give it a heads up if you're in the area.

There are about 200 remarkable prints on display going back to the birth of this art form from many famous and some not so famous greats of photography.

The greatest surprise, sprung at the end, is the image that compresses time above all others. Projected on a large light box is a shot of a girl with lavish strawberry blond hair modelling a scarlet coat on some far-flung beach - she is the poster girl for this exhibition, captured in my shot above.

As the girl raises her face to the dawn light, the sun catches the soft freckles of her radiant complexion. The colour photograph of the girl was taken by Lieutenant Colonel Mervyn O’Gorman more than a century ago. The girl and the soldier were on that beach together in 1913 - a year before WWI - but the moment is today.

Her name - Christina.

Here is a link with some more photographs of her

I included the man with the camera for purposes of juxtaposition only - he is not the main subject - and to draw a link to how we are all still painting with light to this day.

Yet another castoff doll that somehow exudes a sense of grace and dignity completely at odds with its circumstances. This one just sort of fell out of a heap in front of me, stooping just short of a dirt floor. Blank eyes gazing back at me; missing wig; stained dress, yet a remarkably clear complexion. But most of all a sense of calmness and presence. The scene put me in mind of an old masters painting and that guided my processing.

A cobweb linking a couple of the seed pods. Friends report snow about 5 north of us. It would bring a different complexion to the garden. Thanks for stopping

As Orville Wright said, his 12 second, 120 foot flight was the first in which "a machine carrying a man had raised itself by its own power in to the air in full flight and sailed forward without reduction of speed, and finally landed at a point as high as that from which it started."

This White Ginger caught my attention because she has a dry matte complexion. She still has very Light Beige Hair in a very tight small Bubble .Her makeup is original and perfect. She is wearing her original Pink and Gold Wrist Tag. Every Vintage Barbie Collection should have at lease one White Ginger.

High School in Laripora Kalan (Pahalgam), wearing a black hijab, resting her head on a wooden railing outside her class, eyes innocent and gleaming, face looking so happy, lips ready to smile, her roses and peaches complexion. Special permission was taken from the school administration to shoot these children while studying, playing and other school activities. It turned out to be such a pleasure shooting such enthusiastic children and interacting with them. More photos coming soon!

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?

Thou art more lovely and more temperate:

Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,

And summer’s lease hath all too short a date;

Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,

And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;

And every fair from fair sometime declines,

By chance or nature’s changing course untrimm'd;

But thy eternal summer shall not fade,

Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st;

Nor shall death brag thou wander’st in his shade,

When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st:

So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,

So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

--Will Shakespeare

There were apparently some locals shopping here, but I suspect that this place is mainly for the benefit of tourists. I lost count of the number of times we were accosted with offers of (fake) watches and handbags - 'Just come inside and look, no need to buy' with an intensity bordering on desperation. So many shops apparently selling exactly the same goods - not sure what's really going on. The Spice sellers' tactics were mainly to leap out and thrust something in your face and ask 'Do you know what this is?' Of course, after the 20th time this happened, we were able to answer correctly which made them look crestfallen.

The two bowls at the bottom right are dried oranges and lemons, not sure which is which. The blue balls are indigo (for dying cloth), the brown objects are sweet chestnuts, above them sulphur logs for cleaning the complexion. The orange material is a kind of saffron derived from sunflowers rather than crocii and is a lot cheaper. Plenty of real saffron was also on offer.

There were no prices shown on anything at all, so I guess you'd have to be seriously good at haggling, if indeed there was anything you wanted to buy. We saw several heavily veiled women shopping, being meekly trailed by male porters pushing sack barrows loaded with their purchases, so there is evidently some 'real' shopping done here.

GRAVITY by Lika Cameo, the May 2022 exhibition @ Nitroglobus

After visiting one of Lika's exhibitions in SL not so long ago I was impressed by her artistic skills, not only her images but also the way she presented her art.

I invited Lika to create an exhibition/installation for Nitroglobus and she accepted.

Super happy with the result: GRAVITY is a truly awesome installation.

The opening party will be on Sunday 1 May, 12 PM SLT (21 hrs Amsterdam time)

Music by DJ Suzen JueL

Particles by Venus Adored

During the opening party, as she usually does, Lika will give away one of her art work for free.

My thanks goes to David SIlence for the cool poster he created based on an image of Lika & to Adwehe for the impressive light art she installed.

Hope you will enjoy this exhibition as much as I do

About Gravity collection:

'You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.' Dr. Seuss

Love can be scary only because you realize you care about someone as much as you care about yourself. You open your hearth knowing that it could be broken, however being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure, joy and excitement, and make you feel that true bond and energy that is pulling you to belong to the other.

The collection “Gravity” outlines the force between the two, that calling and longing which makes two humans to be so attracted to each other. Through this project I wanted to convey that connection and bond. I called gravity a synonym of love, only because, like gravity, love is pulling two sides.

Each piece showcases different aspects of that bond that love brings.

Moreover, with every piece of art comes with a POEM:

12 poems are by Celestial Demon*

2 by Pablo Neruda

1 by Lika

* Celestial Demon, who is a good friend of Lika, is an SL character who besides writing awesome poetry also creates ditto images.

The synonym of Love:

You are gravity...

I am bound to you

My heart’s anchor

My soul’s keeper

You are gravity...

Sink into your gaze

Drown into your smile

Stitched to your skin

You are gravity

My mind’s perception

My DNA complexion

My love magnet

My You...

The apple blossom is the state flower of both Michigan and Arkansas. The flower was chosen as the state flower by the Michigan legislature in 1897, and the specific variety chosen is Pyrus coronaria, the crabapple, because it is native to Michigan.

Not only do the blossoms turn into apples, but the blossoms can be eaten themselves! It turns out, they are high in antioxidants and have a sweet flavour to them. When made into a tea you can experience benefits like clear complexion, better digestion and stress relief.

Apples have been grown in the UK for for well over a thousand years and the blossom and harvest times have always been key dates for growers. There is now a huge amount of information about when particular varieties blossom and fruit which can help the gardener.

Blossom and harvest dates are relative to each other. This means that if blossom is delayed / advanced then the same will normally be true of the harvest time. Also if one variety of apple is delayed / advanced for harvest / blossom then generally all other varieties will be affected by a similar time frame.

It's raining. The dog should be made to walk, but even he is lazy. From the window overlooking the garden, everything has taken on the dark complexion that water gives on objects when the sun is absent. Suddenly your attention is drawn to a movement to the left. No doubt a house sparrow. There are a lot of them here. But no. The throat does not lie. It is a white-throated sparrow. Here he is flying away. Your eye is drawn to the ground, at the foot of the hazel tree. A bird is burrowing in the loose soil in search of its sustenance. It's not the white throat this time, but a tawny sparrow. Its red tail does not allow to be mistaken on the identification. He was kind enough to take the break for a few moments, the time to photograph him through the window.

While the fires and their resulting smoke appear under control, welcome clouds take their place in the skies above Lake Shuswap. Painterly reflections take on an art like complexion, while the sky expands to take in a breath of fresh air.

As the reflections come and go with each movement in the water, only one of my many attempts captures their fleeting existence.

A new day and a trip off the boat on zodiacs. The choice had been made to go on the long trek, others would walk slower shorter routes but would miss the view from the roof of the world. My travelling partner had been having a few health issues so I walked with a German Linda, more about this lovely lady later, a mad German man who became a good friend, he just didn't stop smiling who said Germans are straight and two lovely mature Americans, in total about 20 of us attempted the route. The snow had been deep this season and had not really started to melt so it was not long and we were all up to our nads in deep, cold snow. Now, I walk every day so I am used to distance and living on the North Downs used to hills but add deep snow to the mix and this changes the complexion of things! But was all the effort worth it, god yes, just mind blowing and our first glacier, reindeer, seal, ptarmigan and so much more all on the morning of day 1. I have to admit being a bit of a nerd so my eyes were all over the place looking at rocks, plants, animals and landscapes, the sky the ground the sea, just had to soak up every morsel. More to come from this morning and the "Roof of the world trek" Svalbard

Grounds for Sculpture

One of my favorite works of art anywhere and what a great placement.

Philip Grausman has risen to become one of the most well-acclaimed portrait sculptors of his time. Grausman's portraits take on a realistic nature, giving life and personality to his figures. Large-scale Leucantha stands tall with a stoic persona. Grausman's fine workmanship and choice of material, cast aluminum, gives Leucantha a silky complexion making her seem ageless--belonging to no specific period of time. The female head is carried gracefully on a muscled neck imparting inner strength and self-assuredness.

On Canada Day, 2017, a long red ribbon was cut and Stratford’s newly-renovated Market Square was officially open. That day, thousands of local residents and visitors flooded the Square, making the point that this open space behind our City Hall was meant to provide them with a place to gather, celebrate, play and relax.

Fort Street West (possibly at Swain Street), constructed 1861-3. I believe this might have been the house of Isaac N. Swain (1807-1880), who made his money in lumber in Watervliet, and in flour. He was the president of Woodmere cemetry and is buried in Lot 1184.

The "American Biographical History of Eminent and Self-made Men" p. 136 notes that Swain bought 12 acres of land on the Detroit River after his wife's death in 1858 (and his subsequent remarriage in 1859), and "commenced with its cultivation and adornment". Between 1861 and 63 he constructed "one of the most substantial mansions of the west". It notes his library, and that he has never taken "wine, or malt, or spirituous liquors as a beverage, nor does he use tea, coffee or tobacco". Even in his 70's he was a muscular well built man of 6'-2" who had a long flowing beard, iron grey hair, light clear complexion and a "fine set of natural teeth", "erect as most men of fifty". He is noted as "simple and easy in his manners; prompt, courteous , and agreeable in all business transactions; and delights in relating his varied adventures, especially to the young".

Two of the twelve Yaksha temple guardians at Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok.

Wikipedia: Yakshas are an important element in Thai temple art and architecture. They are common as guardians of the gates in Buddhist temples throughout the country since at least the 14th century. Ceramic sculptures of guardian yakshas were produced in Thailand, during the Sukhothai and Ayutthaya periods, between the 14th and 16th centuries, at several kiln complexes in northern Thailand. They are mostly depicted with a characteristic face, having big round bulging eyes and protruding fangs, as well as a green complexion. Yakshas and their female counterparts are common in the Buddhist literature of Thailand, such as in The Twelve Sisters and Phra Aphai Mani. As ogres, giants, and ogresses, yakshas are present as well in Thai folklore.

Three St. Marys (Magdalene, Mary Salome and Mary Jacob) who, according to the Gospels, were present at the Crucifixion, are said to have fled the Holy Land by sea shortly afterwards, eventually landing here with other disciples of Jesus.

The latter two Marys remained here, and their relics, along with fragments of their boat, have been safeguarded for centuries in the niche below the ceiling of this fortress-like church.

Their servant Sara, dark-complexioned and thought to be of Egyptian origin, has also become the subject of veneration - particularly for the large Gypsy population living in this part of southern France. The chapel in the crypt under the altar is dedicated to her, and an annual pilgrimage draws great numbers of Gypsy and other visitors.

"I'll admit it." I say, looking directly at you, the reader, hoping that this strange awareness of your presence startles you. "It was thrilling. Killing that part of me. She was weak. And I am strong."

I stand in silence, as a soft breeze lifts stray strands of hair along my ghostly complexion, allowing you a moment to think about what I just said, and to realise that this story is more than just a story, it's a live and happening murder, and you're now a part of it. "There's a problem, though." I say to you, biting my bottom lip, smile forming under its tight caress. "I want more."

The only “Finch" I knew, before this little guy came along, was one Aaron Finch, the Aussie Cricketer!! I have never seen anything else on this earth so restless, never settling in any spot for more than a few seconds. Both of them keep flying up and down, right and left; bundles of energy and I know their diet did not include extra strong Horlicks or Maltova or Boost!! Capturing either of them became a hard assignment!

A few days back Mrs. Finch, snow-white complexioned cutie, laid 3 tiny little eggs. I am so excited!!
