Request for peachy complexion, eyeshadow that goes well with blue eyes and not to emphasize her teeth.
It was autumn 2021, another day in Bruxelles. What to wear? Where to go? She settled for a comfortable sweater, a warm cup of coffee. Her fine complexion reflected clearly in the polished sides of the dimly lit booth. Having noticed all of this she asked me to take her picture.
Finally got a ‘Holy Grail’ I had been searching for since I started collecting many years ago; - The elusive ‘Beautiful Bride’ Barbie from 1976. Apparently, she was a limited release to select department stores and wasn’t as widely available as the later Superstar faced one from 1978. I also took a comparison shot with my Deluxe Quick Curl Barbie who was also from 1976, as they often get confused with each other. (I’ve even seen a few of these Quick Curls dressed up in the wedding gown- which was also available separately as ‘Fashion Originals’ #9149 – by some sellers who try to pass her off as the pricier Beautiful Bride, whether unintentionally or not!) First off, as you can see, Beautiful Bride’s eyes are painted completely differently, and most importantly, she has rooted eyelashes (the 1st doll in the U.S. to have them since 1972) …. Her hair is also side-parted as opposed to Quick Curl’s centre parting, and of course, is of a much softer texture as it doesn’t have those wires that are in Quick Curl’s flip. I was thrilled to see that this bride still has her hair string intact! Beautiful Bride is also much paler than Quick Curl’s peaches-and-cream complexion, (though that could be due to age, as most of them do fade.) She now takes pride of place in the bridal salon of the 1976 Fashion Plaza!
so there's been many a controversy about magazines lightening certain models'/singers' complexions, well here I've done the reverse in the name of art and beauty. The world has people of all shades, sizes and personalities, that is the beauty. I cannot even begin to understand those who are wrapped up in prejudice and hatred, rather than hate them I pity them for there is a gorgeous world out there and they are imprisoned inside a narrow mind.

The nicest girl of the village. Hoba Haru village
Himba women are famous for covering their body and hair with a paste made of butter, ochre (hematite powder) and ashes, called otjize, which is supposed to protect them from the sun and the insects. The red complexion it gives to women’s skin, is considered a sign of beauty. Body decoration is important in Himba culture, especially for women. They wear jewelry made of shell, metal, bone or skin. Women usually go topless (as well as men) and wear a skirt made of goat skin. Adult women also wear heavy iron or copper necklaces, that can weigh several kilos, and beaded anklets to protect their legs from venomous animal bites. Himba dress codes and hairstyle rules are very complex. Himba hairstyles are really meaningful as they enable to identify their social status. Pre-pubescent girls wear 2 plaits in front of their faces. Replacing them with many strands hanging all over the head, means the girl is in her puberty period. A girl with long tied back braids is considered ready for marriage. Once married, an « erembe » (a piece of goat leather) is tied to the top of her head.
Although mariage is important in Himba culture, extra marital relations are encouraged. Polygamy is the rule for men and women also, who can have other partners in addition of their husband. This free sexuality in Himba culture might be explained by the fact that, children are needed in order to raise cattle. Sexual relations before marriage are authorized, maybe in order to make polygamy more accepable. Boys are generally circumcised before puberty in (around the age of 7 or 8), to make them eligible for marriage and leave the camp on this occasion during a few days, Girls also leave when they have their first periods. Weddings are arranged when boys are about nineteen and girls around thirteen.
Despite their traditional autarky and remoteness Himbas get in touch with modern culture, and unfortunately with one of its worse plagues : AIDS. The sexual pratices of the Himba increase the risk of infection, a few cases have been reported. HIV virus is spreading mainly through cultural norms. This is all the more worrying for namibian authorities as Himbas are not aware of what AIDS is, and have difficulty understanding they could be ill and even die, as it takes time for the effects of the virus to become apparent in human host. A disease that might kill them in several years is not a major concern for them, especially for the elders.

I found this little Swift Crab Spider (Mecaphesa celer) on one of my Black-Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta) flowers up front! This is the same species as my brutal beauty in the backyard, so all the same facts from my other posts apply!
Worth pointing out is how small in stature this señorita is! This shot was captured at 1:1, and she's swallowed by the negative space. I only saw her due to her creamy complexion, so I'm sure I'll lose track once she begins to blend in to the blooms.
This portrait of a petite predator was photographed with my Vivitar (Komine) 90mm f2.8 Macro. This photo is uncropped. This stunning sentry on my Susans is around 4-5mm long!
I believe this image perfectly represents my photographic style, and the most unique "selfie" I've ever taken. In fact, I highly doubt an image like this has ever been made before. You're looking at a fisheye infrared image with a reflection in a "hot mirror" filter showing the man behind the camera. Say what?
Circular fisheye lenses have very limited use. They're goofy and fun, but it's rare that I actually get a valuable image out of one. The distorted 180 degree field of view can be manageable, bit the circular image truly limits the appeal in most cases. Then you're going for an oddball image, why not push even further and make it in infrared?
One of the reasons I converted a camera for exclusive infrared work was because I wanted to use extremely wide angle lenses that could not accommodate a filter. The infrared world continues to fascinate me, with a surreal glimpse into landscapes with glowing trees, but it's much more than that. It's an invisible world where light behaves differently. For those curious, I'm not a vampire - despite the look of my eyes in this frame. The iris becomes darker in IR images and can create a creepy look in your eyes. Skin also becomes smoother and softer, taking a few years away from your complexion in an eerie manner. (I call this the vampire look)
The real fun with this image is the use of a little known filter called a "hot mirror". This filter is transparent in the visible spectrum, but acts like a mirror in infrared light. I purchased this filter to block wayward IR light from interfering with another specialty camera dedicated to ultraviolet photography, but the mirror behaviour is fun to play with. There aren't many uses for such a filter (and they're quite expensive), but I'm finding interesting experiments that use it.
This image embodies much my photographic vision: quirky, scientific, unique and there's a story to share. I challenge you to find another circular fisheye infrared hot mirror selfie picture in the world. :)

Foundation: I've tried the more basic Miracle Touch by MF today and it's good, but noticeably cheaper looking, and despite shaving I still have a dark complexion.
Today's new test: An eyebrow gel to fill out the parts that are missing on the right eybrow.
Not sure about: The red lip liner - it makes my lips look a bit strange...either that or I have to get used to the look.

Ingrid and Morticia couldn’t look more different (height, age, complexion, style, etc) but they have the exact same hair!
for some reason mattel decided to use the same fibre, color, length, and pattern of hair on both these dolls — and it’s lovely and soft, not complaining, but it just struck me as funny.

Kuna tribe woman, from San Blas islands, Panama. Like many people in those islands, she is albino. I know there is an explanation with the DNA etc but in all my trips i always met albinos people in the most remote areas..
She also has a sister who is albino. In Kunas culture, they are not seen as a bad sign, like in many others places..

Holi, the Festival of Colours has been celebrated in India since thousands of years and is now also celebrated by various communities of South Asia including non-Hindu communities.
While Holi is celebrated in almost every part of India, Holi in Braj is especially famous. Braj is a historical region which covers the area of Mathura, Vrindavan,Barsana,Nandgaon and some nearby areas. Holi here attacts tourists and pilgrims from all over the world because of it’s special customs and traditions. Mathura is the birth-place of Lord Krishna and Vrindavan is the place where he grew up in his childhood.
When Krishna was young, he cribbed to his mother about Radha (his friend) being fair while Krishna himself was dark complexioned. His mother (Yashoda) suggested him to colour Radha with colors in a playful manner. Over the years, Krishna from his village Nandgaon used to go to Barsana (Radha’s village) to color Radha and other Gopis. They also used to playfully beat him with sticks. And hence the tradition evolved.
Snowy is a fair complexion girl :) She likes to drink milk and cookies. She sews some pretty clothes for herself when free time. I am sure she likes to make a friend with you!

It's a cliched selfie and my underwear is too visible (again), but there are compensations. Softer light is so much kinder to the complexion.

This little twitter looks a tad rough, but it is winter after all. Probably doesn't help his complexion that this was photographed at ISO 25600. But what can you do when you only have an f8.0 faux 600mm.
This daytime resting Tree Frog (Rhacophoridae) changed complexion before my very eyes as my jostling for angles roused its ire. The individual pictures are five minutes apart, but the actual transformation occurred over less than a couple of minutes based on the series of images taken between these two time points.

Se trata de un bóvido de menor tamaño que un ciervo y de complexión fuerte y robusta. El macho tiene una cornamenta grande, sin ramificar, que se desvía ligeramente hacia atrás. En la hembra es pequeña y delgada.

Es una rapaz de mediano tamaño, complexión robusta y coloración muy variable, que posee un aspecto bastante rechoncho cuando se la observa posada. En vuelo exhibe unas alas relativamente cortas y muy anchas y una cola no demasiado larga, que frecuentemente despliega en abanico, gracias a lo cual el ave puede practicar durante largo rato un vuelo sostenido que alterna con cernidos ocasionales. Su plumaje presenta numerosas variaciones individuales, por lo que se pueden observar desde individuos muy claros hasta ejemplares bastante oscuros. No obstante, la coloración más típica del adulto es de un tono marronáceo bastante homogéneo en las regiones dorsales y ligeramente más clara en las ventrales, donde aparece una franja pectoral blanquecina de desigual extensión. En vuelo se hacen patentes unas amplias manchas relativamente claras —muy barradas— coincidentes con las rémiges primarias y secundarias en su cara ventral. Las alas muestran el borde posterior recorrido por una banda oscura, al igual que la cola, que puede aparecer variablemente barrada. El joven presenta las partes inferiores de desiguales tonos marrones y las coberteras dorsales con bordes pálidos; además, su cola está finamente barrada, pero carece de la ancha banda terminal propia de los adultos. Visto ventralmente, no se aprecia con nitidez el reborde posterior oscuro de las alas, y tanto estas como el cuerpo dan la sensación de estar más estriados que barrados. Finalmente, a diferencia de los adultos, que poseen el iris de color oscuro, el del joven es bastante claro.
