The death occurred at Christchurch recently of Mr. Edwin Harris, who was well known in Wellington. For fifty two years he was a member of the staff of the "Christchurch Times," and upon his retirement in September 1929 he was presented with a testimonial from the management and Staff. He was a prominent member of the Ancient Order Of Druids, and was the first District Grand President of tho Order. He leaves a widow and a grown-up family. [2]

If there is a highbrow element in the radio audience, it is going to have an opportunity to clap hands on and after Sunday night, October 7. from then on, for many weeks, the Sabbath comedy and variety are destined to be inundated by a wave of heavy musical culture.
It may be sheer coincidence—and then again, it may be cold business calculation, but it is a fact that the hour between 8 and 9 p.m. Sundays is going to change its complexion in a big way. We've heard all about the Detroit Symphony going into that spot at WABC October 7, under patronage of the gent who makes autos while you wait. But it's news. and somewhat surprising news, that in the hitherto unsold 8 to 9 period at WJZ Sundays, the biggest motorcar outfit in the country is tossing symphony, as it did last year, though the hour was different. This symphony. as of yore, wiII be banded by Nat Shilkret, and each week will bring a famous conductor to the podium. For eight weeks both symphonic programmes will compete with Rubinoff at WEAF, who, on October 7, settles back into regular routine. But at the end of those eight weeks, the Rubinoff presentation will undergo a radical change-and possibly make it unanimously cultural by featuring tabloid operas.
The Penner Aide
Of course, early on Sunday evenings we shall have Mr. Joe Penner back with us shortly, as a sort of relief from the classics. And Mr. Penner, according to hls own remark, will not be doing much, if any, talk about his duck. He intends being a bit more musical, and has a lot of original songs on hand.
These songs which Joe Penner sings have a peculiar fascination for a reverend gentleman in Highland, N.J. He is the Rev. Henry Scott Rubel, rector of Highland Episcopal Church. Most everybody knows that the Joe Penner songs are composed by a lad named Hal Raynor, who has been with Penner in Hollywood. But hardly anybody knows that this nimble-witted Mr. Raynor is back already from the film capital, and busy on another iob in Highland.
Well, to tell the truth, Mr. Hal Raynor is not exactly what he seems—and the Reverend Mr, Rubel knows Mr. Raynor's secret. I know it too, and here it is: Mr. Raynor, Mr. Penner's song writer is no other than the Reverend Mr. Rubel, and now the Highland Congregation knows why their rector went on that trip to Hollywood. It was to write a score of new songs for the former duck salesman.

Ceremonies at Philadelphia celebrating the 147th anniversary of the signing of the constitution of the United States will be broadcast over the National and Columbia networks from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. today. The exercises will include addresses by Col. Robert H. McCormick, publisher of THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE; Edward A. Hayes. national commander of the American Legion, and Robert von Moschisken, former chief justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme court. Col. McCormick will speak from 1 to 1:15 o'clock. WMAQ and WBBM will carry the broadcast locally. Two other outstanding Constitution day broadcasts will be those by former United States Senator James A. Reed speaking at 9:30 tonight from the Fair over W·G·N and both networks, and former Secretary of the Treasury Ogden L. Mills speaking at 3:30 o'clock from New York over the chains.
Amos 'n' Andy will be back on the air after a vacation of two months at 6 o'clock tonight over WENR·NBC but up to last night they hadn't decided just what course their new script would take. They will settle all that at 1 o'clock this afternoon. Though they are planning to give the Fresh Air Taxicab company a rest they will always keep the old bus in the back yard so that it may be pressed into service in a jiffy, if necessary. Freeman Gosden [Amos] was wondering about those two broadcasts nightly. [They will be heard at both 6 and 10 p.m. over WENR this season.] “We'll have to make every show a good one," Gosden declared, “or the kids or the missus, catching us at 6 o'clock, will be telling the old man that he won't need to tune in at 10 that night."
Because of his simplicity, modesty, and personal charm Joe Penner made· a big hit in Hollywood this summer. the Rev. Henry S. Rubel, who as Hal Raynor, writes songs and jokes for Penner, declared yesterday, pausing in Chicago, on his way back to the east coast after a summer in the film center with the radio comedian. Penner is visiting his parents in Detroit this week, the Rev. Mr. Rubel stated, and will return to New York soon to complete plans for his return to the air Oct. 7. Penner's picture, “College Rhythm," also featuring Lanny Ross, Jack Oakie, and Lyda Roberti, will be released in about a month.

Her complexion was described as "a rose blushing through old ivory;" she was beautiful, tall (5'7"), slender, and Chinese-American. The last fact kept her from attaining the highest echelon among Hollywood's pantheon of stars, but it did not affect her popularity, nor keep her from becoming a household name. She was Anna May Wong, nee Wong Liu Tsong, a name which translates to "Frosted Yellow Willows," and she was born, appropriately enough, on Flower Street in Los Angeles' Chinatown on 3 January 1905, above her father's laundry. Anna May Wong's contribution to show business is a unique one; she was the first Asian female to become a star, achieving that stardom at a time when bias against her race was crushing. With determination and talent allied to her exotic beauty, she remained the only Asian female star throughout her forty-year career, never fully overcoming all prejudices in maintaining that position. Perhaps the rediscovery of her art will elevate her star to the pantheon of great performers and serve as a guiding light to Asian performers who still struggle to find their rightful place. Anna May Wong's life and career is something that is important for all who value greatly the Asian / Asian Pacific American communities' many artists and what we can all contribute!

Daughter of the Dragon extended the curse sworn by Dr. Fu on the Petrie family to the next generation. Fu Manchu (Warner Oland), long ago injured and exiled in an attempt on Petrie Sr., returns to London and confronts the father: "In the 20 years I have fought to live," he says in his florid maleficence, "the thought of killing you and your son has been my dearest nurse." He kills the father, is mortally wounded himself and, on his deathbed, reveals his identity to his daughter Ling Moy (Wong) and elicits her vow that she will "cancel the debt" to the Fu family honor and murder the son, Ronald (Bramwell Fletcher)... who, dash it all, is madly infatuated with Ling Moy. Ronald has seen "Princess Ling Moy Celebrated Oriental Dancer" perform, and the vision has made him woozy. "I wish I could find a word to describe her," this calf-man effuses. "Exotic that's the word! And she's intriguing, if you know what I mean." In a near-clinch, Ling Moy wonders if a Chinese woman can appeal to a British toff. Her complexion was described as "a rose blushing through old ivory;" she was beautiful, tall (5'7"), slender, and Chinese-American. The last fact kept her from attaining the highest echelon among Hollywood's pantheon of stars, but it did not affect her popularity, nor keep her from becoming a household name. She was Anna May Wong, nee Wong Liu Tsong, a name which translates to "Frosted Yellow Willows," and she was born, appropriately enough, on Flower Street in Los Angeles' Chinatown on 3 January 1905, above her father's laundry. Anna May Wong's contribution to show business is a unique one; she was the first Asian female to become a star, achieving that stardom at a time when bias against her race was crushing. With determination and talent allied to her exotic beauty, she remained the only Asian female star throughout her forty-year career, never fully overcoming all prejudices in maintaining that position. Perhaps the rediscovery of her art will elevate her star to the pantheon of great performers and serve as a guiding light to Asian performers who still struggle to find their rightful place. Anna May Wong's life and career is something that is important for all who value greatly the Asian / Asian Pacific American communities' many artists and what we can all contribute!

Snow White and her Prince have now been fully deboxed. They are posed standing, supported by the built-in doll stands in the base of the display case.
This regular version of the Snow White and the Prince Disney Fairytale Designer Collection Doll Set has the same two base dolls as the D23 special edition dolls that I reviewed earlier. That is the dolls themselves are identical in every way (except for the serial numbers on the back of the Prince dolls). They also have outfits of almost identical designs, but made of different materials and with differing colors. So the dolls have different looks, especially the Snow Whites.
Snow White has the body of a 2012 Disney Store Classic Princess doll. That is, she has hard plastic legs, with hinged knee joints and ball jointed ankles. She is missing the usual manufacturer's marks printed on Disney limited edition dolls, including the part number and her edition size and serial number. She is also missing the twist waist joint of the previous Designer Princess and Designer Villain dolls. She has a pale complexion, the same as the 2012 Snow White, with whom she shares the same body. However, her neck joint has more freedom of movement, especially downward, and her painted on panties are deep golden yellow, much darker than the 2012 Snow White.
Her face mold appears to be the same as the 2012 and 2013 Classic Snow White, but with a considerably different face paint than either of them. She has large dark brown eyes that are glancing to her left, with four short thick lashes over each eye and four very short and thin lashes under each eye. Over her eyes is gold eyeshadow, and thin black eyebrows gently following the curve of her eyes. She also had short rooted eyelashes that are just barely curving upwards, and are even in length. She has a small button nose, a small mouth with blood red lips forming a charming open mouth smile. She has light pink rouge over most of her cheeks, and a round face with small chin. She is a very beautiful and faithful representation of the sweet and charming movie character.
Her hair is a considerable departure from the traditional short flip hairdo. Her jet black hair is parted to the left of her head, and pulled tightly over her head into a medium length braided ponytail that tapers down to a point and is secured by black rubberband, and is sewn to her collar on her right side. There is a small amount of hair product applied just above her forehead, to a thin strip of her hair. In my doll, that strip keeps on separating from the rest of her hair. I haven't been able to integrate it with the rest of her hair; perhaps I will have to apply more hair product to keep it place. There is a thin bright red satin ribbon around the top of her head that ends in a small bow at left side of her head.
Her outfit is a take on her traditional Princess gown. Her bodice and skirt are separate pieces. The bodice is dark blue velvet with gold piping and elaborate gold embroidery, and decorated with a bow made of metallic gold thread. The floral design is similar to the D23 doll, but differs in its details. She has puffy sleeves of the same dark blue velvet, with separate ribbons of bright red satin that float over the velvet. The sleeves have black lace cuffs decorated with gold hearts, and the oversized collar is pure white lace folded in a fan-like manner behind her neck and head. Her skirt is dark golden taffeta with gold embroidering incorporating fleur-de-lis, flowers and hearts. The embroidery in the skirt is identical to that of the D23 doll. The taffeta gives the skirt has a wrinkled, antique appearance. It has a thin pale tan satin lining. There are golden rhinestones scattered throughout the bodice and skirt of her dress. Under her dress is a floor length white satin slip with the lacey pattern at the hem showing below her skirt. It is sewn to her skirt at two spots at the hem, which I chose to leave alone for now. It is also sewn to the waist band of the skirt, so it is a permanent part of the skirt. She is wearing golden tan flat shoes (or slippers), the same as the D23 doll. It is a beautifully designed and beautifully made outfit that is a darker and more ornated version of the Princess outfit of the movie character.
The Prince appears to have the standard Disney Store Prince body, with articulation at the neck, shoulders, hinge jointed elbows, ball jointed hips, and internal knee joints with limited movement. His hands and feet are large, but his head is disproportionately small compared to Snow White. His face has a neutral expression, with small, narrow deep blue eyes, wide mouth and a straight nose. His molded dark brown hair looks okay. His face doesn't look that movie accurate to me; I actually prefer the playline Classic Prince. As with all Disney Prince dolls, he is sturdily built, and can free stand fairly stably. But for safe keeping, it is best to put him up in the included doll stand, which has a wide C-clamp that goes around his waist very snuggly.
The Prince's outfit is very well made and fitted to his body. It consists of a dark blue faux leather vest, a bright red velvet and satin cape with gold piping permanently attached at the shoulders of the vest, a dark blue faux leather belt with a gold metal buckle and a short black faux leather scabbard attached, white satin shirt, black pants and black boots with a worn look and creases. In the scabbard is a steel gray sword with a brown handle. The sword is thin and very flexible. It was slightly bent out of the box, but was easily bent back into shape. The D23 Prince's vest is much thicker, and feels much more like real leather than this Prince doll. But this Prince has an outfit that is much closer in color to the movie character. He looks great in his outfit, and very dashing, but I wish his expression had more emotion, and was more cheerful.

Identificación
Es una rapaz de mediano tamaño, complexión robusta y coloración muy variable, que posee un aspecto bastante rechoncho cuando se la observa posada. En vuelo exhibe unas alas relativamente cortas y muy anchas y una cola no demasiado larga, que frecuentemente despliega en abanico, gracias a lo cual el ave puede practicar durante largo rato un vuelo sostenido que alterna con cernidos ocasionales. Su plumaje presenta numerosas variaciones individuales, por lo que se pueden observar desde individuos muy claros hasta ejemplares bastante oscuros. No obstante, la coloración más típica del adulto es de un tono marronáceo bastante homogéneo en las regiones dorsales y ligeramente más clara en las ventrales, donde aparece una franja pectoral blanquecina de desigual extensión. En vuelo se hacen patentes unas amplias manchas relativamente claras —muy barradas— coincidentes con las rémiges primarias y secundarias en su cara ventral. Las alas muestran el borde posterior recorrido por una banda oscura, al igual que la cola, que puede aparecer variablemente barrada. El joven presenta las partes inferiores de desiguales tonos marrones y las coberteras dorsales con bordes pálidos; además, su cola está finamente barrada, pero carece de la ancha banda terminal propia de los adultos. Visto ventralmente, no se aprecia con nitidez el reborde posterior oscuro de las alas, y tanto estas como el cuerpo dan la sensación de estar más estriados que barrados. Finalmente, a diferencia de los adultos, que poseen el iris de color oscuro, el del joven es bastante claro.

Personality: Paranoid and untrusting, he shifts his Court every couple of days and his face every few minutes. He’s untrusting but upholds his oaths and duties as the ruler of the Anchorage Court
History: Thinking back, Jack has more memories of his time spent in Arcadia than his life before hand. He can recall some things such a concrete buildings that were caved in, a sickly humid heat, shouts of pain and fury. There were flares of gunfire and flashes of light reflected from sharpened metal. He recalled being pressed up against a wall by a window. There came a shattering sound of glass and then a blinding flash.
When the flash faded, he was cast in absolute darkness. It was blacker than anything he’d ever seen before. IT was almost like you could touch, hold and shape the darkness with your bare hands. The shade was suffocating. Then came a figure that’ll haunt his nightmares for the rest of his days. His mind couldn’t wrap around the complex horrific vestige.
The decades that followed taught him true despair. Everything he had was stripped from him. His clothes, possessions, his freedom when he was chained to walls. But that was being treated nicely. When he was locked to the wall, his Keeper came with an assortment of nightmarish tools. Through the pain of it all, Jack could feel his very identity being stripped away. Tools that didn’t leave a visible mark upon his flesh cut into his mind, tearing memories from him. Things he had once known as fact were gone. He couldn’t even recall what his own face looked like. His Keeper would finish this theft be completely scouring Jack of all physical details. Horrifically, he had lost his gender, his face, even his skin color. He became like polished metal, reflecting light and able to act as a mirror.
Chained to the wall, his Keeper would force him to reflect the beast’s visage. Jack was whipped and beat if he couldn’t perfectly match every ghoulish detail. In time, it became second nature to Jack to shift his silvery body and become a living reflection of whatever stood in front of him. He sobbed and gave into sorrow and despair during his long captivity. He couldn’t count days in this place but it felt like an eternity.
Then one day, one of the small house slaves slipped into the Keeper’s bedroom to pilfer a few coins. The slave stepped too close to Jack and instinctively, he shifted forms. The quickness of the change allowed him to drop from the chains before they could constrict and keep him tied. The first thing he did when he was free was murder the slave. Streams of silver poured from his eyes as he choked the thing while whimpering, “thank you….I’ll free you.”
Killing it, he then fled as far as he could from his Keep’s estate. HE didn’t know where hew as going, he stole faces as he ran by to keep himself concealed. HE ran and ran but could hear his keeper’s voice bellowing for him, could hear the baying of the dogs sent to find him. He plowed into the hedge and ran wildly. He never even saw the opening that he fell into. All he remembers is fleeing through the thick hedge and then being dropped face first into a pile of snow in the middle of a city.
While nearly freezing to death, Jack laid in the snow and cold exhausted. He didn’t know what else to do, he just wanted to give up. That’s when he heard a soft voice speaking to him. It was taking pity on him and offered Jack a chance to survive that he didn’t need to be cold or endure the sorrow alone, Winter understood. Since then Jack as fought to survive and proved to be as intense as the season that saved him. For those unprepared for him, they would be frozen stiff. While the people who were prepared for him found that Jack could be pleasant and enjoyable under the right conditions.
Over the decades, he’s risen to power in the Anchorage. He’s made safe places for those on the run to stay and he offers them protection for a price and if they follow his rules. However, anyone who draws too much attention that could alert his Former Keeper, Jack descends upon them with the full furry of Winter itself. During his Reign, he’s left dozens of bodies to be found lifeless and covered in thick jagged ice. An Urban Legend has sprung up around him, the locals call him Coldsnap because his victims regardless of the season ar caked in ice.
