Quad Barracks during U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii's first Community Ohana Day, here, Oct. 14. The event showcased the installation, services and programs and Soldiers. Through education and partnership development, surrounding communities can gain a better understanding of USAG-HI and its Soldiers and Army families. Quad E is recognized as a historically significant group of structures and is on the National Register of Historic Places based on its representative art deco and Spanish Mission Revival architecture and historic events during World War II. Constructed in 1921, the buildings were originally open sleeping and living spaces. Today, the buildings are used as a barracks for Soldiers and as administration offices. In 2008, the Historic Hawaii Foundation its Preservation Award to U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii for USAG-HI’s renovation work of Quads C and E.

The Camp Darby Community gathered on Sep. 9 at the Camp Darby Chapel to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attack. The ceremony included a wreath laying and the lighting of candles in remembrance of the Firefighters, Service Members, and Civilians who died in the attacks and subsequent military operations. The Springfield GOTR girls have been collecting donations for the Michiana Humane Society for our Community Impact project. I was so happy when I received the call that they would be coming to pick up the donations and speak with the girls. We even made a new friend, Phoebe!

Community college students were given a tour of the law library and conducted legal research for there Legal Research and Writing I class. The students were introduced to the Federal Reporters and given citations which they researched and then prepared legal briefs for. As one of the students said this is the “real thing” !!

Children from the Urban Community School visited SPACES to meet with artist Margaret Cogswell and discuss her project "Cuyahoga Fugues Revisited." The students were asked to create works that responded to water in the way that Margaret's work responds to water.
