Dublin City Libraries were delighted to be back at the Rose Festival this year. There was plenty of activity around the Library in the Community van and the Lord Mayor of Dublin even popped by to say hello. Our library tent played host to some great family events including he Gruffalo puppet show and photogram workshop.
Back in Banaue we waited for transportation to Sagada to the northwest. This photo was taken during that wait. Here, a pig was purchased, slaughtered, bagged, and given to the people of Banaue from a couple who were about to get married.
I placed these few photos out of order when uploading. The sequence is first the cutting up the pig, then showing the long line of folks to the right waiting for permission to grab a bag of pork, and third is a person completely out of line walking up to the front and taking a bag all to the surprise of all those in line. The last image should have been the collapse of the line where everybody just gave up on politeness and went for the pork!

North Weymouth, MA – Early this morning, over 200 members of Fore River Residents Against the Compressor Station (FRRACS) and allies gathered for a mass demonstration at Enbridge’s compressor station site to call on Baker and the DEP to immediately halt construction on the project. Multiple people were arrested for blocking the gate to the construction site. Two other people were on site for a more than an hour, locked to pieces of construction equipment. As a result of today’s action, construction was stopped and workers left the site.
Organizers allege that Enbridge, a Canadian corporation, has a long track record of violating state law and Indigenous sovereignty. The Atlantic Bridge project, with Weymouth at the center, would export fracked-gas to Europe by way of so-called Nova Scotia where a gas storage cavern would illegally violate Mi’kmaq treaty rights.
There are concerns about the impacts of building this facility on a toxic waste dump and the additional air quality hazards in a community already plagued by industry. Activists believe that the Weymouth compressor would exacerbate climate change by opening a channel for fracked-gas exports. Many at the demonstration today voiced solidarity with the Wetsu’wet’en Indigenous people fighting another gas export pipeline slated to violate their lands.
After years of public opposition, construction began in December on the natural gas compressor station in Weymouth.
Opponents criticized the permitting of the compressor station, a project that's created controversy in South Shore communities, environmental and public health groups, and elected officials on the city and state level.

IBMers at the Toronto Innovation Centre invited local non-profit organizations to participate in free workshop and mentoring sessions in May 2011. I have performed a few more analyses on a dataset of wild bees collected by our association Observatoire des Abeilles (samplings performed by my friend and colleague E. Dufrêne). The data have been collected in a large nature reserve south of Paris.
The most locally abundant species were L. pallens, L. fulvicorne, B. pascuorum, A. mellifera, A. nigroaenea and A. cineraria. The same analysis can be performed on the dataset without these species to reveal more structure in the communities.
The left heatmap shows the abundance of each species on each site, whereas the right heatmap shows only presence/absence data.
