During National Library Week, community leaders showed their support of libraries by signing the "Declaration for the Right to Libraries," a campaign designed to build sustained support for America's right to libraries of all types. On Monday, April 14, the EVPL hosted a declaration signing ceremony in the lobby of Central Library that included brief comments from Mayor Winnecke, Tracy Gorman of the Evansville Rescue Mission, Erika Taylor of the YWCA, Dr. John Mosbo from UE and Chris Kiefer, the President of the EVSC School Board. The public and staff were also encouraged to sign the declaration.

Ferguslie Community Council Walkout.

Monday November 29th 2021 7pm Ferguslie Community Council members gathered after many months of lockdown due to coved and where tonight’s AGM held in the Tannahill Centre was to vote on, a no show of confidence in the community council Chairperson leadership which saw a feisty exchange of heated words and more so than any I’ve ever heard or shot.

It was pointed out by the chairperson due to covid-19 missing the members were awaiting results, thus unable to attended let alone have the right to vote on something so important which was out of their hands due to government rules. But it was pointed out by the secretary, six out of nine members were in fact in attendance thus making up two thirds of the board, which made the procedures legal and above board and the vote should be held regardless. It wasn’t after the discussion finally came to an end and where a compromised saw the leadership vote would be postponed and the meeting would carry on with other business.

Around 7.20pm saw a late arrival and the last member to join the debate which continued to be heated and stressful for those involved. Me, I just shot away unmolested and documented the procedures which I never take sides on, yet was upset the group had come to this.

Worse still given I`ve shot countless events held by these hard working folks for the betterment of the peoples of Ferguslie Park. But politics is a nasty mistress folks, which inevitably divides the loyalties of one the members while creating divisive alliances with family and friends to the detriment of the group’s overall goals which is fighting for the people and one’s own aims..

It all came to head after it was pointed out; it was the responsibility of the chairperson to contact the council over why a shit load of funding was diverted to other projects and the lesser bulk of this one off massive funding would see the people of Ferguslie Park receiving less. Though the chairperson pointed out due to covid-19 and the inability of the council to meet let alone himself and others know what the hell was going on. The secreted did state it was all written out in the many documents which were handed out at the meeting and he should read it and respond given it wasn’t the secretary’s play to contact the council. This saw one member get up and leave resulting in the chairperson doing saw which resulted in colourful words.

This should have been live streamed as I’m not giving it justice and have no dog in the race to take sides. Again I hoped for so much more. I’m not a council member just a friend and photographer…. But will say, people need to see the bigger picture and fight for the people and bury the hatchet before what were good friends became political enemies.

By the way, love these photos… and they say politics are boring.
