West Kelowna is a visually stunning community and a four-seasons playground, located on the western shores and hillsides of Okanagan Lake.
The Westside (as the locals like to call it) has always been appreciated for its quiet beaches, rolling hills of orchards, and fantastic outdoor activities.
West Kelowna has a diverse economy, which includes agriculture, construction, finance, food and retail services, light industry, lumber manufacturing, technology, tourism and world renowned wineries.

Briceville Community Church, Briceville, Tennessee.
Built circa 1887 by Welsh immigrants coming into the area to work the coal mines, this church served as a cornerstone for the local community during the violent labor disputes of the Coal Creek War and two major deadly coal mining disasters.
Its history is too extensive to properly summarize here, but I suggest looking at its National Register of Historic Places form (catalog.archives.gov/id/135817619) and the Historic Marker Database (www.hmdb.org/m.asp?m=102331).
The church is currently undergoing restoration work, and more information about that project can be found at the Coal Creek Watershed Foundation (www.coalcreekaml.com/).

Torthorwald Village Saturday 2 September 2017 - the sun shone brightly, the scarecrow makers once again excelled themselves with their imaginative creations. Community members came from near and far to enjoy the spectacle as well as taking part in the family entertainment on the village field - bouncy castle, beat the goalie, welly throwing, the Torthorwald stocks, glitter tattoos and much more - a fantastic time was had by all.
Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to everyone who made the scarecrows, baked, donated prizes, donated food and helped out on the day.
Most of all thanks to the organisers and all the community members who came to lend their support and enjoy a great day out - it was brilliant to see so many family's there!
The DCPA hosted a community roundtable on March 2 gathering members of various faiths to talk about the Theatre Company's upcoming production of Ayad Akhtar’s play 'Disgraced.' The gathering was an opportunity to discuss otherness and sometimes false suppositions we make just by looking at someone 'Disgraced' is a provocative, turbulent, Pulitzer Prize-winning play focuses on a Manhattan corporate lawyer named Amir who questions his suppressed Muslim identity as his white wife — an up-and-coming New York painter — embraces Islamic artistic tradition. 'Disgraced' opens March 31 and runs through May 7 in the Ricketson Theatre. For more information, call 303-893-4100 or go to www.denvercenter.org/shows/specific-series/Get?Id=3f6011e... Fort Huachuca and the Bureau of Land Management welcomed the community to the new operating base for BLM's Aravaipa Veteran Firefighting Crew April 28.
Aravaipa Canyon, located northeast of Tucson, Arizona, is the crew's namesake.
Through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Installation Support mission, BLM signed a long-term agreement with the garrison.
"We issued a 20-year permit," said Elizabeth Brooks, a realty specialist in the Los Angeles District's Arizona-Nevada Area Office. "BLM first approached the post's Department of Public Works about suitable training, storage and maintenance facilities for the team. Then, it's our job to structure the agreement."
The Corps is steward of the fourth largest asset portfolio, by value, of all federal agencies.
Kelly Castillo, BLM Arizona State Fire Management Officer, spoke about Aravaipa.
"The crew we're talking about today is in their second season," said Castillo. "Once they attain Type I Hotshot status, they will be the only BLM-certified Hotshot crew in the southwest geographic area which includes Arizona, New Mexico and part of Texas. And, they will then be one of 12 such crews nationwide."
A hotshot crew is specially trained in wildfire suppression tactics and must meet stringent requirements established by interagency fire managers. Castillo anticipates the hand crew will reach Hotshot certification by 2019.
The predominantly military veteran Aravaipa crew was formed in November 2015 as part of BLM's emphasis on hiring veterans and in response to a nationwide increase in wildfire activity and the need for highly skilled firefighters.
Sadly, the ceremony was missing its honored guests; the crew was actively engaged in fighting the Sawmill Fire southeast of Tucson..
