The male deity Flimani Koku, contained in a calabash covered with white cloth is carried out of the shrine for all the followers to see at the Kokuzahn festival. Althoughy the calabash and its powerful medicinal contents weigh very little its psychological weight is immense. The devotee who carries the deity on his head nearly topples under the pressure.The calabash (azizan) is carried out from the female shrine for public viewing. The woman bearing it careers from side to side under its weight and finally collapses on the ground in a trance.
This lovely flower is commonly known as Red Clover which is a species of clover.
This is called Murasaki-tsumekusa or Aka-tsumekusa in Japanese.

Under the Sea... under the sea.... I just started singing that when I saw this in the community garden. The bright colors caught my eye in an instant against all the green of the other veggies. I was expecting a tropical fish to swin by!
