In 1901 Vancouver requested $50,000 from industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie for the purpose of building a library. Carnegie agreed, provided the City of Vancouver supplied the site and contributed $5000 a year.
The original public library was completed in 1903. For decades, the top floor was the home of the Vancouver Museum. The Vancouver Public Library moved into a more spacious building in 1957 and the Carnegie building eventually fell into disrepair.
Poverty activists convinced city council to turn it into a public space for local residents, and it opened as the Carnegie Community Centre in the 1980s. It now houses recreation facilities, a cafeteria, a branch of the Vancouver Public Library, and a variety of services and programs for the neighbourhood, which is one of the poorest in Canada. The Carnegie Centre is a drug and alcohol-free area.
So I ended up not using the photos on my contact sheet because when I tried editing them, they didn't turn out looking much different/better than the original. The things I noticed about my community is that there is a calming vibe about it. It is very gloomy, yet at the same time very soothing. I chose these two (new) images because I liked the way how I edited them to change the vibe that they were portraying. For my first photo, I changed the tone a little bit to a much more warm/ autumn tone. For the second photo, I thought that the original looked very bland, as if there wasn't enough contrast. The ethical choices I had to make was to make sure that I don't edit the photo too much to remove from the original ethics of the photo.
Parts of the interior of Oman are very hilly, the highest peak is around 2000 metres. Many communities have traditionally lived in this hilly terrain and recently the traditional villages have been abandoned and people have resettled into modern houses with all facilities. This is a typical view of the countryside and the villages.

Balloons over Branson Creek, Branson's inaugural Hot Air Balloon Festival, is a joint partnership between The Communities at Branson Creek and Branson Balloon. There was 13 balloons participating at the event as well as powered parachutes and sky divers. This picture was from the evening balloon glow.

I experimented with light because there was light coming out the window. My community is at school. I don't know how it connects with the other project.
We stopped to visit this village not far from the Tad Lo waterfalls. My local guide told me that this was the Lae minority and identified the village as Khien Khong, neither of which I have been able to find any confirmation of. I believe these were either Laven or Nge / Nge-Trieng ethnic groups and indeed the community house / spirit house is in a picture on a webseite identifying the location as an anonymous Nge village here: asianitinerary.com/bolaven-plateau-discovery-tour/
GENEVA CAMP. A small town in the mega city of DHAKA. The people here are still called “Biharis”. As an Urdu-speaking Muslim minority, they fled to East Pakistan when India was partitioned in 1947. They were unwanted and remained stateless. After Bangladesh gained independence in 1971, the ICRC built camps to protect the Biharis. One of these is the GENEVA CAMP, where 50,000 people have lived together in a small space for decades. Finally in 2008 they got an ID card from Bangladesh. Thanks to GMB Akash’s contacts, I was able to move freely around this camp and get an idea of this community - and I share my moving impressions here - on the narrow threshold between private life and public space.
I got to take a trip for Mendon over the weekend. I ended up getting caught in the beginning of a blizzard on the way back from St. Joseph. Fun times.

yesterday the island of luzon, philippines was placed under an enhanced community quarantine. this is to control and contain the spread of the covid-19 virus. under this quarantine, everyone is requested to stay home unless they have to buy supplies or for other emergency requirements. even public utility vehicles aren't allowed to operate . in these images are taxis which were caught at a main avenue of metro manila
During February 2014 Reading Buses took delivery of five 'door-forward' versions (numbered 161-165) to increase capacity on routes 19/19a, 27/29 and the Community Link routes 18/28/28a. 162 is the dedicated vehicle for the latter and is seen in Forbury Road during the evening peak of Friday 21st march; although in 'generic' livery it has been given vinyls for its chosen role.

Manchester Community Transport YX19ONR reverses onto the layover stands at Stockport bus station having arrived as service 392 from Macclesfield. The destination has already been reset for the return journey.
This service is supported by Cheshire East council.
They're building a new, huge hospital and will merge the Old City Hospital (called Community for years now) and Mercy Hospital together. Don't know how that will work, but I guess we'll see....

I was lucky to be at the exact spot when the light was hitting the inscription directly.
In Chinese the words roughly translate to "The amazing lady is a believer". I could be wrong and the inscription could be in Japanese "Kanji".
According to Wiki:
It is the largest Japanese cemetery in Southeast Asia at 29,359 square metres, consisting of 910 tombstones that contain the remains of members of the Japanese community in Singapore, including young Japanese prostitutes, civilians, soldiers and convicted war criminals executed in Changi Prison.
