CFR-ing again today!!

Out and about in Sheffield in my little Ford Fiesta with all my CFR-ing bits and pieces.

Also made time for a mid morning Starbucks stop! Nice!!

I am a Community First Responder for Yorkshire Ambulance Service in and around Sheffield.

It's a volunteer role not paid like when I was a Paramedic with YAS 18 months ago..

Have you thought about this sort of role?

You do not need any medical background at all!!

This is my yard, at the end is my Garden. I'm going to plant my Veggies back there very soon, I also have to replant some if my herbs. The flower seeds I planted back there haven't fully bloomed yet.

“That land is a community is the basic concept of ecology, but that land is to be loved and respected is an extension of ethics.”

― Aldo Leopold

Crocidium multicaule. There are lots more blooms on the way. You can see their heads nodding towards the ground. When the stalks grow a bit firmer and the blooms reach for the sun, they will burst open -- like the stars they are!

Communication and community engagement are essential to stop and prevent the spread of Ebola. UNICEF is supporting the establishment of community committees, and is engaging with trusted individuals and networks, including religious leaders, youth and women’s groups, business leaders, as well as Ebola survivors themselves. Survivor testimonies help to reduce fear and encourage people to seek early treatment.

Lwanzo Kahindo, pictured here, is part of the community group of women from the Somamu association in the Mukuna area. The women meet with families each day to encourage them to seek early treatment, explain the mode of transmission of the disease, and ask if they are in good health or if anyone is sick in their community.

One of ten stained glass windows Chateau Community Church is located outside of Linkwood, Maryland on Chateau road. No one is sure where the name Chateau came from (which the locals pronounce “ Chat-tall”) but at one time there was a small community there by that name.

The Chateau Church is a Greek Revival frame church built the year following the close of the Civil War. The temple-front structure repeats an architectural form popular throughout the Delmarva peninsula during the second quarter of the nineteenth century. The 1866 church is well kept up and a single story church hall was added to the west side a few decades ago

The membership is down to twelve so it may have problems staying alive in the next few years. Naturally with a church over 150 years old there are stories about members that would fill a book. The stories range from when a member did some preaching on Easter Sunday and return to his seat and dropped dead to when in 1959 the Methodist conference tried to sell the church due to reduced membership. The conference locked the doors and would not let the members in, The church members held their services outside on the church parking lot until finally they had a locksmith open the church doors and change the locks and they took back their church and dropped being in the Methodist conference. Today it is an independent church.

New work in progress! This is the key block for the new "COMMUNITY" print we have in the works here at Tugboat Printshop. This will be a 16" x 20" color print (printed from 5 hand-drawn, hand-carved woodblocks). More details on our website:www.tugboatprintshop.com/woodcut_community.htm

Sometimes you get yourself into a situation that is hard to get out of. We were on a small island off the coast of Portugal and we could see numerous birds on a shoal in the distance. To get a better look we ventured down a road that I am sure was never meant for vehicles and that got increasingly more narrow the further we went. Fearing we would have to back out the entire distance we started looking for a place to turn. When there was an opening, the beach sand was soft and sure to get us stuck. We eventually found a small spot where we could maneuver, get the car turned around and make our way back. We never did get a closer look at the birds. The only other vehicles we saw were bikes and motor bikes. I am sure the locals thought we were nuts!

So I was challenged to take more photographs of strangers, then Ly Wylde emailed me and said I should take photographs of pillars of my community. Weirdly, I had thought of doing something similar months ago so thank you Ly for re-igniting that idea!

I have decided to take photographs of the proprietors of shops in our local community. We live about a 2 minute walk from 20 or so individual businesses and I'd really like to photograph them in their shops/businesses as they normally are.

I was a bit nervous with this first one. I explained what I was doing and he was more than happy for me to take his picture, but looking at it now I wish he was holding a rabbit or a cleaver or something. Anyway I think he looks proud and territorial which is good. He is our local butcher and has been there for years. Definitely a pillar of our community.
