Thursday morning I took a walkabout around my 1942 Alma mater which was built in 1912.
That be what is now Oaklands School & Community Centre which was formed in 2000.
Looking online, I could not find any references to the time of my tenure: 1942-48
Mr. McKinnon was principal during most of those years and before I left for S.J. Willis High School in 1948, Horace R. Dawson (1913-2008) became principal. Horace first became a school principal in McKenzie Elementary School at age 17yrs. in 1931. He was a brilliant scholar.
Mr. Dawson (1913-2008) he was 94yrs 11 months
Horace is an Irvine descendant borne from the Mary Ann (nee Irvine) Laing family line. Mary Ann was the second-born, Irvine child in Victoria BC in 1853.
One can see from this missal that Oaklands is more than just a school to me.
Mendocino Community Library. The small victorian house, its many books and an endowment were left to Mendocino by 2 beloved local women 20-some years ago. It thrives with an all-volunteer staff and a nice budget for new books. Four times a year all are invited to donate books for book sales which augment the funds. Work is still done by hand. I heard today that digital checkout of books is on its way.

This is my oldest son attentively listening to an organizer give instructions about how the Constitution can be most effectively transported the couple miles to downtown. I thought this frame was apropos since the Quincy Jones Performing Arts Center in the background is someplace he's performed a lot (he's lead trumpet in the school's jazz band). Furthermore, the gymnasium on the left has been home to many of his wrestling meets.
No -- this isn't what I wore to community service -- but it's what I changed into for the afternoon when we got back from packaging tortillas for the needy.
This skirt I got when I was going to school in California a few years ago at Banana Republic. It's one of my all time favorite pencil skirts. The material is a surprisingly heavy weave, and to the touch seems like it would be very stiff -- but every time I wear it I feel like it was made just for me - and makes me feel so tall and classy -- Business Sexy.
I'm very into the longer but well fitted pencil skirt. I love skirts of all types, but for work, I love pencils.
--and of course those famous pumps again.

"True community is based upon equality, mutuality, and reciprocity. It affirms the richness of individual diversity as well as the common human ties that bind us together"
Community (noun):
A body of people or things viewed collectively, living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.
The condition of sharing or having certain attitudes and interests in common.
On social occasions in rural Punjab, the custom of doing things collectively is still alive though the culture of 'marriage-palaces' is killing this great tradition.
One time Greater Manchester PTE standard Atlantean 7531 had arrived at it's role as a non PSV promotional vehicle with Canterbury and Havant Community Healthcare via East Kent who had operated the vehicle for a number of years with similar examples that had been purchased secondhand at deregulation.
All it's interior had been stripped out for its new role and a retractable awning fitted to the nearside for use when the bus was being used on days much warmer than when the bus was photographed amidst a light dusting of snow.
Defunct Compton Community College unit. The college is now serviced by the El Camino College police.
Not my best photo ever but a worthy subject. These guys give free tea and cake to the community on cold days. A community spirit that we are losing.

I am a Community First Responder for Yorkshire Ambulance Service in and around Sheffield.
It's a volunteer role not paid like when I was a Paramedic with YAS 18 months ago..
Have you thought about this sort of role?
You do not need any medical background at all!!
Check the website..-
