I use these beautiful little pins everyday. I always admire the colours as I work. They brighten my day. They deserve to be photographed.
“‘OPALessence (play.with.colour)’ is inspired by the colours and patterns of Australia’s national gemstone, the beautiful and mysterious opal.
“A dynamic light sequence projects onto a historic sandstone surface showcasing the gemstone’s vivid play-of-colour in spectacular patterns known as Chinese Writing, Broad Flash, Flagstone, Harlequin, Ribbon and Flower Garden, among others. This phenomenon is especially seen in the rare black opal of Lightning Ridge, NSW, which is also home to some of the world’s most beautiful and precious opalised fossils.
“Opal features prominently in ancient mythology. The gemstone was a good luck token for the ancient Romans; ancient Greeks believed opals to be the ‘tears of Zeus’ and the giver of power and prophecy; and Australian Aboriginal Dreamtime legends associate opal with the Creator, the gift of fire and the capture of rainbows.”
Dec. 22, 2010, 6:00 p.m. If you want to see "colours" (Canadian spelling), head to a running store to see the new collections. Nowadays, more runners want to stand out...and at night they want to be seen! Tonight at the Running Room on Bank St., the running tights are gold, and the running jacket (swag from last year's Resolution Run?) is a bright yellow/green.
To create these artistic renditions, I combined the images of Jupiter captured by Hubble (in visible light and UV) and Gemini Observatory (in IR) and assigned different colour channels (R/G/B) to them with 6 possible combinations.
The colours came out to be vibrant with interesting patterns on Jupiter's atmosphere.

A few photos from the SAA-uk Colours of Punjab event, held at Left Bank Leeds. Really lovely celebration with Punjabi folk music and dancing. Featuring the Gidha Bolyan ladies and Tohr Panjabian Di, wonderful Bhangra dancers.

The previous time I attempted this shot at Newcastle Northern kindly positioned a 158 in P3. No such problem today 23rd October 2024 with 6S31 06:35 Doncaster Up Decoy to Millerhill heading the service.
Deoksugung Palace, Seoul, South Korea
Located at the corner of Seoul's busiest downtown intersection, Deoksugung Palace is famous for its elegant stone-wall road. It is also the only palace that sits alongside a series of western style buildings that add to the uniqueness of the surrounding scenery. Deoksugung Palace originally belonged to Wolsandaegun (1454-1488), the older brother of King Seongjong (1469-1494) of the Joseon Dynasty. It became a proper palace when Gwanghaegun (1575-1641) ascended to the throne and gave the palace the name Gyeongungung in 1611. Afterwards, the name was then changed back to its orginal title of Deoksugung.
Zaandam (formerly called Saenredam) and the surrounding Zaan River region, called the Zaanstreek, have a history that is intimately connected with industry. Zaandam was a leading city in the first Industrial Revolution. In the Golden Age, Zaandam served as a large milling center. Thousands of windmills powered saws that were processing Scandinavian wood for the shipbuilding and paper industries.
Zaandam is also historically linked with the whaling industry.
Into the second half of the 20th century, Zaandam was still an important lumber port.
