Days of Autumn in Canada, when the day times are clear and sunny and the nights cool and crisp, provide an almost irresistible lure to those who enjoy the colourful shades of outdoors. This type of weather is the most favorable for a spectacular show of autumn colors, making this season of the year still more delightful. Autumn forests show up vividly in the maples, oaks, sourwood, sweetgum, dogwood, tupelo, black gum and persimmon. The entire trees blaze forth in vivid hues, along city streets as well as across the open countryside. Here what I captured this time, Enjoy!
I saw this flower arrangement at a grocery store. I quickly took out my D300 and grabbed this shot handheld. Oh wow. I just love those colours.

The Institue of Making turned 2 on Saturday and to celebrate we threw open our doors and celebrated metal in all its diversity. Crowds came along and explore metals that have memory, to see a jet engine turbine blade made from a single crystal, and discussed ethical gold with researcher Peter Oakley in the Materials Library. CóilÃn Ó Dubhghaill was in the Library talking about his research, specialising in friction stirred mokume gane metals.
We had some 3D printed metal objects, participants had a go at raising copper into a bowl shape, making spoon from copper pipe, created wire sculpture with artist Helaina Sharpley and learnt the ancient technique of pewter casting with cuttlefish bone. Watched scientist Andres Tretiakov set fire to metals, creating sparks to see the beautiful colours metals emit. Listened to live performances from a UCL homegrown brass band named Dat Bass, who also gave a rare opportunity to have a go! There will also be the chance to taste metals.
The previous time I attempted this shot at Newcastle Northern kindly positioned a 158 in P3. No such problem today 23rd October 2024 with 6S31 06:35 Doncaster Up Decoy to Millerhill heading the service.

I use these beautiful little pins everyday. I always admire the colours as I work. They brighten my day. They deserve to be photographed.
Dec. 22, 2010, 6:00 p.m. If you want to see "colours" (Canadian spelling), head to a running store to see the new collections. Nowadays, more runners want to stand out...and at night they want to be seen! Tonight at the Running Room on Bank St., the running tights are gold, and the running jacket (swag from last year's Resolution Run?) is a bright yellow/green.
