The temps are supposed to get down to -15 to -25 tonight with some valleys getting down to -30!!!!! I am glad we have a woodstove, we'll be nice and toasty!!!
Lots of little critters live in there too, I am always finding nests, I always try to cover them up if I take wood off them, I have found baby mice in there before!!!!! Mom found them and moved them when they were uncovered! The red squirrels "bury" pinecones and peanuts in there too!!!! So I guess the woodshed and wood is multipurpose!
I was only outside for about 10 minutes, but man, was it cold-this was before I was smart enough to put on my scarf!
So up until this week, the weather in Chicago hasn't been too terrible. And after a couple snow-less weeks, I was happily walking around outdoors, varying between several of my gym shoes, depending on what color I was wearing that day. THEN, it started to snow. And the following morning, it was still snowing. And all over the newscasts were weather reports about a blizzard coming our way.
Luckily, Ricky's mom gave me some long underwear for Christmas, so I've been making it a habit to wear them under my pants when I go out. But the other night, the weather was absolutely brutal. Windchill of negative 17ish or so. I did not want to go out at all, I just wanted to stay inside, nice and toasty in my apartment and perhaps watch the new episode of The Office. But no, I had made plans and wanted to hang out with people so I went out in the brutal, negative degree weather. Several hours later, as I had decided to finally go home... the car wouldn't start! Luckily my friend had some jumper cables, but nobody really knew how to connect them so it took us about 10-15 minutes or so before we actually got the car started.

I was trying out the insulated Ethel Gloves yesterday while doing a bit of winter gardening. I'm testing them out for them so they can make changes as needed. I figured harvesting my beets in 20 degree weather would be a perfect test.

Despite killing frosts and low temperatures, this Petunia in my front garden refuses to give up and say "I'm done" after all the other summer flowers have shriveled up and died from the cold, this petunia has decided to offer another round of flowers. To me, this surely says Spring is coming, and we have a lot to be thankful for.

Again I went to explore some more of Kampinos National Park in Poland. I got lucky because it was sunny again!
