A snow photo to cool us down in mid summer.

Thanks for looking!

I was only outside for about 10 minutes, but man, was it cold-this was before I was smart enough to put on my scarf!

So up until this week, the weather in Chicago hasn't been too terrible. And after a couple snow-less weeks, I was happily walking around outdoors, varying between several of my gym shoes, depending on what color I was wearing that day. THEN, it started to snow. And the following morning, it was still snowing. And all over the newscasts were weather reports about a blizzard coming our way.

Luckily, Ricky's mom gave me some long underwear for Christmas, so I've been making it a habit to wear them under my pants when I go out. But the other night, the weather was absolutely brutal. Windchill of negative 17ish or so. I did not want to go out at all, I just wanted to stay inside, nice and toasty in my apartment and perhaps watch the new episode of The Office. But no, I had made plans and wanted to hang out with people so I went out in the brutal, negative degree weather. Several hours later, as I had decided to finally go home... the car wouldn't start! Luckily my friend had some jumper cables, but nobody really knew how to connect them so it took us about 10-15 minutes or so before we actually got the car started.

I was trying out the insulated Ethel Gloves yesterday while doing a bit of winter gardening. I'm testing them out for them so they can make changes as needed. I figured harvesting my beets in 20 degree weather would be a perfect test.

Again I went to explore some more of Kampinos National Park in Poland. I got lucky because it was sunny again!

Last winter along the Eastern Seaboard, Sea Turtles were found in record numbers suffering from the extended period of cold. The problem was especially prevelant along the coastal waters of S Florida. Overnight, fisherman were literally pulling them onboard 2-3 at a time. At this time the US Fish and Wildlife phones started ringing off the hook, Teams were mobilized as the true magnitude of the problem was becoming apparent. About the same time, as the sun rose, stunned citizens along the coastal areas began to awaken, to find beached Sea Turtles all along the coastal areas, both the East coast, as well as West. Good News! Dr. Kirt Rusenko told me that there were approximately of 5000 (THOUSAND) Sea Turtles from Central Florida South to the Keys. affected by the recent cold snap. Of the 175 brought into his facility, there were only 8 fatalities! There are about 7 remaining to be released. Dr. Rusenko-Thank-you for your time, expertise, and your passion for our Turtles, I know they are in the best hands! Approxinately 35 of the Turtles brought in had to be treated for an invasive disease that causes Tumors called Fibropapillia. The prognosis of the treated Turtles remains optimistic, however, the etiology of this disease is still unclear. Pollution from run off is believed to contribute, in Turtles of younger ages with compromised or still developing immune systems. This presented an opportunity to learn more about this disease. Studies are now underway to further understand this disease.

....despite the sun & blue sky but I was reasonably "toasty" wearing plenty of layers!!

Taken in the "wild's of The Fens" whilst helping out on the making of a new short film called "The Bench" featuring my wife.

Finally! spent a couple of hours hiking through the local woods, down to the shore and back through the forest. The light was simply magnificent and the snow clung to everything. Just glorious!

I'll be all in your streams a bit later. I'm cooking dinner just now.

you simply must!
