Used the "Silhouette" setting on my d7100 to capture the coldness of this November sunset today.

The temperature hovered just below freezing all day, between 30°F and 31°F and after the sun set it dropped down to around 26°F, now at 8:45 PM. it's a cool 21°F and the wind is still gusting out of the northeast up to 35 mph.

We are seeing some November coldness for sure.

Last month Baton Rouge looked like this.

In Icelandic, Glacier Lagoon is called Jökulsárlón. The place is magical, and the mood of the lagoon and big broken pieces of the glacier depends on the weather conditions. The floating glaciers, calmness of the sunset, and water forming a layer of ice in this image must not be taken for granted. Looking for some colours, sunset and calmness, I visited this place three days in a row. I was disappointed in terms of photography, but I was blessed with an opportunity to view some amazing moments during snow and strong wind. The lagoon takes a new shape everyday because the ice keeps moving towards the sea. Instead of the sea, we even witnessed the ice blocks flowing back into the lagoon at a steady speed and colliding with the others. When these mighty giants collide, the cracking sound, the slush and water splashing all over the show are a beautiful but fearful sight. More so if millions of tiny ice crystals, producing a shattering sound float towards you in a ripple effect.

On a very cold winterday!

It’s been a long time since we’ve had this snow here. Nice to look at, but not so great when you have to be on the road… And of course, I have to drive all the way up north today - Ghent, Belgium

Pre-dawn.

Temperature? 19 degrees F with harsh stiff winds.

This was the place that my younger son had planned to wed his fiancé at dawn.

The officiant was with us along with 4 kids of the new mixed family.

No one but my son and I wanted to go up on the rocks so we sought another location for the site of the informal wedding.

Sorry that this isn't a very great photo from my cell.

However, I was dressed for the weather and could have sat with a cuppa coffee on a rock out of the wind and watched the day arrive.

I will come back here for sure. What an amazing shoreline.

Trembling Aspen, Eagle County, Central Rocky Mountains, Colorado, Late Summer Afternoon.

Aspen groves are native to cold regions, including at high elevations in the mountains. They are deciduous trees with flattened leaves (petioles) that decrease aerodynamic drag in gusty winds. Their bark is photosynthetic and has lenticels for gas exchange through the bark. Their root system is made up of spreading rhyzomes, which allows the aspens to develop clonal colonies.

This leaning tree that first grew downward and then upward is an example of how aspen trees adapt to moving soils, especially on mountain sides and ledges. This activity is called geotropism, or gravitropism; the tree's growth response to the pull of gravity. Fascinating to see several of these leaning trees at once!

Luosto is a picturesque ski village with a surprisingly large number of accommodations. Although there are a few hotels, you'll mostly find cozy bungalows here. Luosto is nestled in the heart of Pyhä-Luosto National Park, surrounded by ancient forests, rugged gorges, and peat bogs. It's a unique piece of nature rarely seen in our part of Europe. Finnish Lapland is far to the north, so there's usually plenty of snow here. Luosto offers a stunning landscape for adventurous activities and the opportunity to enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the Finnish wilderness. Our plan is to climb the spectacular fell (mountain). As we step out of the car, it feels like nature here is in a deep winter sleep. Our hike begins at dawn in the remote hamlet of Ukko-Luostontien. In Lapland, the colors of the sky during sunrise and sunset can be very intense due to the low position of the sun on the horizon. The long twilight periods can create unique colors in the sky, including green hues, due to various scattering effects of sunlight. The trees gently bend under the weight of the snow.

We walk along the ridge of the fells of Ukko-Luosto, passing through the surrounding primeval forest. The summer path to the top is closed due to avalanche danger, so we continue our journey and attempt to reach the summit via the northern ridge of Ukko-Luosto. The path ascends steeply through the enchanting ancient forests, where the trees covered in crown snow look magical. The last section to the top of the mountain has snow too deep for us. The path winds its way to the top of Pikku-Luosto Fell. We sink in and have to crawl to the top. Snowshoes are definitely necessary here. In the impressive Ukko-Luosto Scenic Hut, we can take a break, warm up, and admire the magnificent view. It's terribly cold up here on the 514-meter-high mountain, partly due to the biting polar wind. The sun reaches its highest point on this short January day and shines beautifully just over the mountain's peak. There's also a solar halo visible, an optical phenomenon caused by the refraction, reflection, and scattering of light by ice crystals in the atmosphere. We thaw out a bit and rest before starting our return journey. Walking in the snow is exhausting. We take the same route back because we don't want to get stuck in deep snow and aim to be back in Luosto before dark. In total, we walked more than 18,000 steps, but we enjoyed this special place in Lapland. In Luosto, we treated ourselves to delicious reindeer jerky and panna cotta, while BieJee savored a reindeer burger.

The Parc National des Pyrénées is a national park located within the French départements of Hautes-Pyrénées and here above the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. Located along the border of France and Spain is a scenic and mountainous landscape offering a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, skiing, mountain climbing and observing wildlife. According to the Pyrénées National Park website, the park, created in 1967, is a natural heritage without barriers or fences where animals are totally free. Devoted to preserving biodiversity and landscapes, studying wildlife and plant species, the park is home to 70 different species of animals. Animals like: ermine, stoat, bear, desman, pine marten, wild boar, fox, lammergaier or bearded vulture etc. Only the bear's situation is worrying, their numbers have been steadily declining for the last 30 years only 6 individuals left today. The eastern portion of the national park forms part of the French section of the Pyrénées - Mont Perdu World Heritage Site that straddles the border between France and Spain. The oceanic influence gives the French, Northern slopes a mild and humid climate while the Southern winds give the Spanish slopes an arid look.

The Pyrenees are one of the last wilderness areas of Central Europe and can only really be appreciated on foot. Using the extensive network of paths and remote mountain refuges, walkers can quickly find themselves miles from civilisation and surrounded by the spectacular beauty of the mountains. Photo taken at the Parc National des Pyrénées - Mountain Range of Atlantiques, France. Samantha and BieJee were high up in the Pyrenees at 1740 m enjoying the fresh mountain air and our easy way down.
