For the weekly theme whither the weather. Both in C (what we use here in Canada and in F for those south of our boarder and other places that still use the F scale).

I know it’s a screenshot and not a photograph per say but, I don’t see myself heading outdoors to take my photo a day so I can do other things on my "list of things to do that I am procrastinating about" . So, with tthat this will be my "photo a day" for today in retrospect - after all, I am looking at this 365 as a photographic diary of sorts for me.

As it’s supposed to “warm up” starting tomorrow until Wednesday with temperature highs of -10 or so. Oooo almost beach weather. … Not!!! But, I will be back outdoors to take some photos no doubt.

I see pintails do this every winter when it gets cold. Cracks me up every time. Effective however. They are trapping air between the feathers to increase insulation and hold in body heat.

The roses stayed for the frost and snow,

I'm glad they did!

Greetings my friends. Wishing you all a Happy Saturday.

Winter trees and blue sky, oh and a dash of snow to add to the scene. We had a week of snow, not bad for this area as the last decent snow we had was back in February 2018.

We had a rather windy and cold day with snow showers off and on throughout the day, that is not virga falling from the clouds but ice pellets and or snow.

Captured on a crisp winter day in Estonia, this photo showcases the serene beauty of the snow-covered streets, where two locals walk past a charming pastel-colored house. The contrast of the icy cold against the warm hues of the house creates a peaceful, yet striking winter scene. It’s a perfect example of how winter in Estonia combines both the harsh chill and the subtle warmth of its culture and architecture.

Close-Up of frost crystals coating a wooden post during a cold spell in Cumbria, UK. Little jewels of ice sparkling in the light, so intricate close up! I used extension rings on a Nikon 50mm 1.8 to enable me to play with macrophotography one frosty morning this winter!

We get wickedly cold temperatures here in Edmonton.

Here is a shot of Whitecourt, Alberta, at nearly -40C which is the same thing as 40F below. Any way you measure this temperature, it is nasty.

But somehow, the residents of Alberta survive these sub-zero temps, as did their pioneer relatives in the past.

And just how did the pioneers manage that?

I would like to know.

Getting close to the end of my novel, Martha's Vine. And all is going very well. In the second book, Martha's world must cope with the increasing reality of living in cold temperatures without power.

I did, when after snapping this I had to get up from lying down in 80cm deep very very soft snow.

(this is uncropped at 35mm - so I was close enough to hear the chuckles particularly well)

Amidst a snowy landscape, two Przewalski’s horses stand resilient, their thick winter coats blending with the frosty surroundings. These rare and ancient wild horses, once extinct in the wild, now roam freely again thanks to conservation efforts. Their striking features and sturdy build showcase their adaptability to harsh conditions, a testament to nature’s enduring spirit and beauty.

The Parc National des Pyrénées is a national park located within the French départements of Hautes-Pyrénées and here above the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. Located along the border of France and Spain is a scenic and mountainous landscape offering a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, skiing, mountain climbing and observing wildlife. According to the Pyrénées National Park website, the park, created in 1967, is a natural heritage without barriers or fences where animals are totally free. Devoted to preserving biodiversity and landscapes, studying wildlife and plant species, the park is home to 70 different species of animals. Animals like: ermine, stoat, bear, desman, pine marten, wild boar, fox, lammergaier or bearded vulture etc. Only the bear's situation is worrying, their numbers have been steadily declining for the last 30 years only 6 individuals left today. The eastern portion of the national park forms part of the French section of the Pyrénées - Mont Perdu World Heritage Site that straddles the border between France and Spain. The oceanic influence gives the French, Northern slopes a mild and humid climate while the Southern winds give the Spanish slopes an arid look.

The Pyrenees also spelled Pyrenées Spanish: Pirineos; French: Pyrénées; Catalan: Pirineus; Occitan: Pirenèus; Aragonese: Perinés; Basque: Pirinioak are a range of mountains in southwest Europe that form a natural border between France and Spain. They separate the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of continental Europe, and extend for about 430 km. For the most part, the main crest forms a massive divider between France and Spain, with the tiny country of Andorra sandwiched in between. Gabas is a hamlet nearby in the valley of the Gave d'Ossau in the French Pyrenees. It is located where that river is formed by the confluence of two mountain streams, the Gave de Bious and the Gave du Brousset, which flow respectively from the western and eastern sides of the Pic du Midi d'Ossau - 2,884 m.

The Poitou Donkey above is a breed of donkey originating in the Poitou region of France. One of the most distinctive donkey breeds, it is also among the rarest and least-known.The friendly, affectionate and docile Poitou Donkey is the oldest breed approved in France. The Poitou is also noted for its large body. In the Middle Ages, owning a Poitou Donkey may have been a status symbol among the local French nobility. Today there are an estimated 400 Poitou. The Poitou on its Conservation Priority List.
