The North Sea Canal is a Dutch ship canal from Amsterdam to the North Sea at IJmuiden, constructed between 1865 and 1876 to enable seafaring vessels to reach the port of Amsterdam. It ends at Amsterdam in the closed-off IJ Bay, which in turn connects to the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. The North Sea averages about 100 m. The beaches and coastal waters of the North Sea are popular destinations for tourists. The Dutch coasts are especially developed for tourism. Windsurfing and sailing are popular sports because of the winds. Because of the strong tides and areas of still water, the North Sea is more difficult to sail than the Baltic or the Mediterranean. Mudflat hiking, recreational fishing, and diving, including wreck diving, are all possible.
A photo of the lighthouse at the beginning of the North Sea Canal. It's beautiful walk of 1.5 km to the lighthouse. The winter sun gives such wonderful colors. Januari is the season in Holland for bird migration. For most birds Holland is just in between North and South. It was so cold my fingers were frozen. No feeling anymore when I pressed my camera button. I must have shot a 100 photo's but lucky the result is here.
Frigid cold temperatures at Great Falls, Virginia, near Washington, D.C., shortly after a bomb cyclone. While Great Falls didn't receive much snow accumulation from the bomb cyclone, it did experience some very cold temperatures. When I shot this photo, it was 10.9 °F or -7.0 °F, if you account for the 18.4 mph winds.

“A wonderfull frozen waterfall lost in the middle@of Switzerland. I rarely experience something like that during winter. Find this gem and trying to compose was quite challenging. I us a go a bit closer to the waterfall but it became harder to find something. #Tranquility #Frozen #TranquilScene #Winter #Nature #Outdoors #ScenicsNature #ColdTemperature #switzerland #hidden_places #hidden_gem #waterfall #snow #landscape__photography #landsacape_photography #sony1635gm #focus_blend #a7r4”
“La baia di Jökulsárlón in Islanda offre uno spettacolo mozzafiato con il sole al tramonto che si nasconde dietro dense nuvole, mentre un piccolo uccello acquatico solca le acque tranquille tra gli iceberg. Questo momento di pace, dove la natura si esprime in tutta la sua maestosa quiete, è un inno alla bellezza del crepuscolo artico.”
“The Jökulsárlón bay in Iceland presents a breathtaking spectacle with the sun setting behind dense clouds, as a small waterbird glides through the calm waters among the icebergs. This moment of serenity, where nature expresses itself in all its majestic stillness, is an ode to the beauty of the Arctic twilight.”
Impressive view the start of water ice November 20, today frozen temperatures 0 daytime, -6 tonight. The beginning of ice water where water doesn’t move. Water that is moving fast on St.Lawrence River by the Cornwall Dam will not ice at all and lots of birds stay there for winter on the open water especially some of Canada Goose that don’t fly south (most do leave).
We got our first sudden heavy snow fall of the season. Approximately 20 cm with another 5-10 cm more to come.
I am suppose to fly out tomorrow. Hopefully the snow will stop by then.
Beautiful scenery as seen along a river bank in Potosi, Wisconsin, about 30 minutes from where I live in Dubuque, Iowa. It was a nice drive for lunch and able to get a scenic photo shoot in at the same time. Photo Images credited to Vickie Lynne Klinkhammer of Vickielynne Photography and Designs(VLP & Designs). A Winter Eden
by Robert Frost
A winter garden in an alder swamp,
Where conies now come out to sun and romp,
As near a paradise as it can be
And not melt snow or start a dormant tree.
It lifts existence on a plane of snow
One level higher than the earth below,
One level nearer heaven overhead,
And last year's berries shining scarlet red.
It lifts a gaunt luxuriating beast
Where he can stretch and hold his highest feat
On some wild apple tree's young tender bark,
What well may prove the year's high girdle mark.
So near to paradise all pairing ends:
Here loveless birds now flock as winter friends,
Content with bud-inspecting. They presume
To say which buds are leaf and which are bloom.
A feather-hammer gives a double knock.
This Eden day is done at two o'clock.
An hour of winter day might seem too short
To make it worth life's while to wake and sport.

"What happens in Nemiskam, stays in Nemiskam." This story is similar throughout any of the frontier ghost towns within Alberta, in particular a place with only two residents. Virtually nothing happens here, and every photographer who visits sees the few reminders/remainders differently.
For good measure, I believe utilities and electricity are still active. Nemiskam did have its own big moment that did put its name on the map, albeit briefly. The hamlet had a sensational bank robbery in the late thirties.
The hamlet name translates, 'Between Two Valleys'. This is Nemiskam's pioneer school, arguably Alberta's most photographed ghost town institution according to;

Anyone that knows me knows how much I love both storms and mountains. So when the two come together it is hard for me not to get excited! This shot is looking across at a stormy Mt Tekarra (2694 m or 8838 ft ) in Jasper National Park.

Antarctica is Earth's southernmost continent, encapsulating the South Pole. It is situated in the Antarctic region of the Southern Hemisphere, almost entirely south of the Antarctic Circle, and is surrounded by the Southern Ocean. At 14.0 million km2 (5.4 million sq mi), it is the fifth-largest continent in area after Asia, Africa, North America, and South America. For comparison, Antarctica is nearly twice the size of Australia. About 98% of Antarctica is covered by ice that averages at least 1 mile (1.6 km) in thickness.
