Soo FP7's 504 and 502-A approach Harris Road in Grayslake IL. in January 1979 with an extra east. A cold shutter finger snapped a fraction too late to get the barn in the shot.
Merry Christmas All!
Back on Friday the 13th 2020 CN ran a "mega-train" ore train out of Minntac. Caught it at Wolf. Because nothing is normal this year.

Snow and cold weather a few days before the meteorological Winter on Dec 1. As Lower Mainland Winters go this was the beginning of more snow that we should have had. No snow for the next five years and we will call it even.
Whenever the weather turns cold as it has several times in March 2018 we get blackcaps in the garden. This male isn't overfed - just fluffed up to try and keep warm.
Taken at Sunny's Photo Studio.

This photo is also serving as an open debate between Nikon and Canon. I have been thinking about selling my Nikon equipment for a Canon 7D and 600mm IS. I can pretty much pay for the new set up with the money selling my equipment. Just wanted to hear everyone's thoughts.
A few more quick snaps, just with the phone (was too cold to stop and get gloves off and fumble the camera out the bag, and I was on my way to work anyway, but I wanted to grab a few quick pics)
So far it has been a very mild and wet winter resulting in the early appearance of the snowdrops. I don't think I have ever had them this early in January. They are calling for much colder weather next week so fingers crossed that will not kill the early bloomers off.
"Mystic Mead"
My dear friend Alex visited this week. I took a vacation day from work and we camped overnight at Doris' Pond. It was a cold (27 F overnight) but beautiful night of friendship, spirits, and fire. Deep conversation on anthropological and philosophical nuances were the hot topics of the nights discussions. This beverage is a perfect compliment to such ocassions.
Mystic Mead is produced by Lakewood Vineyards one of the local wineries for which our area is famous.
SIGH!
The view out the back door this a.m.
It stopped snowing about an hour ago. We only got about an inch, but I'd better go out and sweep it off the back walk or it will become a skating rink out there when the temps fall later today.
I TRY to embrace ALL the seasons, and find the beauty in each one..................but winter is starting to get on my nerves!
AND.....it's ONLY the middle of January............bigger SIGH!
A walk to the beach begins with frost on cars, little drops of melted frost, a misty haze and bright sun, all in this series of shots taken at Kirkley and Pakefield in south Lowestoft. Also, they are all taken with a prime lens - no zoom.
It isn't officially Winter until December 21st but we have about 20cm (8 inches) of snow and the temperature this morning was -16C (3F). Is it Spring soon...... : )
There is no sun and just flat light so I haven't taken any photos and this is the only offering I have. Hopefully, the sun will shine and I will have something of interest to post!
During a recent, unseasonably cold weather snap in our area, the cold nights and windy days were quite a shock to the system!
This kind of weather is supposed to happen in January, February, maybe March, but not the first half of December. Us southerners have thin blood, so we aren't as hardy as northerners who are used to the cold weather. (Even though they may not like it, they're used to it). They know how to bundle up & keep warm. And sometimes, they may even tease us when we complain about high temps in the low 50° F (10° C). We can be such whiners!
Even our poor squirrels were hunkered down, wearing their tails like coats trying to keep warm! They may have fur coats, but it seems their blood is just as thin as ours!
