Sold recently at auction in Newark - yours for £1,400, Sir. The magic letters M S & L signify that this clock, which came from the station in Grimsby, was originally for the "Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway Company". That company built the line from Grimsby out to Gainsborough and beyond in the 1840s, and were the successors to The Great Grimsby & Sheffield Junction Railway Company, who had first proposed and planned the line through Gainsborough from Grimsby. In 1847 that company amalgamated with the Sheffield & Lincolnshire Junction Railway and the Sheffield, Aston-Under-Lyme & Manchester Railway Companies to form the MS&LR. When the company's ambitions extended further South to London, the MS&LR became the Great Central Railway Company in 1897.
This clock, which I'd personally love to have ticking away on my office wall, would probably be worth only a couple of hundred pounds at most if it was not for it's railway connection, and in particular, those magic letters M S & L.

Wikipedia: St. Jakobi is one of the five main evangelical Lutheran parish churches in Lübeck's old town.
It was consecrated in 1334 as the church of sailors and fishermen, who still have their "Schütting" (meeting house) in the boatmen's association opposite. Its patron saint is Saint James the Elder. The church, the Holy Spirit Hospital and the neighbouring Gertrudenherberge are stations on a branch of the North German Way of St. James. Since September 2007, the northern tower chapel of the church has been a national memorial for civil seafaring, known as the Pamir Chapel.

This is a Junghans ATO clock, which dates back to the early 1950's or so. It is an electro-mechanical clock. There is a curved magnetized rod attached to the bottom of the pendulum. A solenoid coil, on the left, is briefly energized when the escapement closes a switch. The energized coil generates a magnetic field, which pulls the pendulum to the left.
The clock has a glass case, which is removed for this photo.
