Located at Mortimer and Cosburn, Bestway Cleaners have been there since 1968. The neon signs (I'm yet to get a picture of the other that I am pleased with) were a beacon that we were almost home. I'm glad the sign was refurbished and still shines .

ENGLISH:

I'm Heinz. I am a self-employed window and facade cleaner. Right now I'm cleaning the windows of Susi's hairdressing salon. A window is similar to our soul. We all want nice, clean windows. But when the panes are clean, things happen quickly and they are soiled by particles in the air, flies or bird droppings. It's the same with our soul. One bad thought or one bad word and our soul is impure. I can clean windows, but only Jesus Christ can cleanse souls. Let's call him for help!

Soy Heinz. Soy un limpiador de ventanas y fachadas por cuenta propia. Ahora mismo estoy limpiando los cristales de la peluquería de Susi. Una ventana es similar a nuestra alma. Todos queremos ventanas bonitas y limpias. Pero cuando las ventanas están limpias, las cosas suceden rápidamente y se ensucian con partículas en el aire, moscas o excrementos de pájaros. Es lo mismo con nuestra alma. Un mal pensamiento o una mala palabra y nuestra alma es impura. Puedo limpiar ventanas, pero solo Jesucristo puede limpiar almas. ¡Vamos a llamarlo para pedir ayuda!

DEUTSCH:

Ich bin der Heinz. Ich bin selbständiger Fenster- und Fassadenputzer. Gerade bin ich am Putzen der Fenster von Susi’s Frisiersalon. Mit einer Scheibe verhält es sich ähnlich wie mit unserer Seele. Wir alle möchten schöne, saubere Fensterscheiben. Aber wenn die Scheiben sauber sind, geht es schnell und sie sind durch Partikel in der Luft, Fliegen oder Vogeldreck verschmutzt. Genauso ist es mit unserer Seele. Ein schlechter Gedanke oder ein böses Wort und unsere Seele ist unrein. Ich kann Scheiben putzen, aber Seelen kann nur Jesus Christus reinigen. Rufen wir ihn um Hilfe an!

Window cleaners hard at work abseiling down a city building on a busy Tuesday morning in Sydney.

One of the many popular exibits in the Co-operative hardware store in Beamish Museum is this patented Victorian knife cleaner by Kent's of London. In the days that largely pre-date stainless steel there was a real need for a method of keeping knives stain-free, and this was the preferred method. At a cost of 49/11d (£2.50p) in 1913 - or about £150 in today's terms - this beast was not for the common people. It was more likely to be found in commercial eateries or the homes of the gentry.

Window cleaners, Auckland New Zealand. The start of a few photos taken while travelling over the past 7 weeks.

I don’t take many studies of people but thought that a quick shot of this cleaner in the DRI, Doncaster Royal Infirmary would be one to get me going again. Even in the Opthamology Dept, protective masks, aprons and gloves have to be worn.
