Cleaner photos on Flickr

One of the many popular exibits in the Co-operative hardware store in Beamish Museum is this patented Victorian knife cleaner by Kent's of London. In the days that largely pre-date stainless steel there was a real need for a method of keeping knives stain-free, and this was the preferred method. At a cost of 49/11d (£2.50p) in 1913 - or about £150 in today's terms - this beast was not for the common people. It was more likely to be found in commercial eateries or the homes of the gentry.

Bestway Cleaners by Sally Hunter

Located at Mortimer and Pape, Bestway Cleaners have been there since 1968. The neon signs (I'm yet to get a picture of the other that I am pleased with) were a beacon that we were almost home. I'm glad the sign was refurbished and still shines.
