Same location as in a previous post, this time a Class 47 on an express.
Somewhere in Devon or maybe Dorset circa 1977.
A class 108 unit calls at Bolton with a service to Blackburn.
This was in the period after the colour light signalling had been introduced but before the old station building on Trinity Street was taken out of use and demolished.
That staircase has long gone. But not the cafe, it is still there slightly altered but now a WH Smiths selling drinks!

Coming down the Calder Valley from Sowerby Bridge is Class 40 40144 (SP) at the head of an empty coal train. The trackside weeds make it difficult to tell that this is a junction - the Halifax line branching to the nearside of the train

It is hard to inagine that the Class 306 EMU was first introduced in 1949, and they were a familiar sight for many years on the Liverpool Street- Shenfield services. They were built to a pre-Second World War LNER design by Metro Cammell and Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company. They were withdrawn in the early 1980s, but unit 017 was retained, passing into ownership of First Great Eastern, who refurbished it to operational condition for use on special occasions. After many years of storage exposed to the elements, as it continues to do so at Shildon, it is now pending assessment by the NRM with a view to possible restoration.

After my visit to the car cemetery, I had a few hours to kill before it was getting dark.
Pedal to the metal for another 230 km to visit an abandoned school were the walls are literally crumbling down.
Not much more information about the history of this place, besides there were 2 escaped prisoners that hijacked a few guards in this school. Don't know if they survived.....

CP class unit 5900 leads 272 across northern Illinois on the former Milwaukee Road D&I. Only a short three months ago one was guaranteed a set of EMDs on 272 or 273, now more modern power has invaded the former IC&E territory making full EMD lash-ups a thing of the past. All good things must come to an end though.

British Rail Class 90 25kV Bo-Bo electric locomotive 90010 heads southbound working the 1P05 06:00 (07:50 29L) Abellio Greater Anglia Norwich- London Liverpool Street service train at a grim Chelmsford Station on the Great Eastern Main Line in Essex (UK).
90010 was built at British Rail Crewe Works and entered service on October 25th 1988.
The caged signal device to the left of the train is called a 'banner repeater' and these are positioned when the driver cannot see a forthcoming colour aspect signal. In this case it's for the down signal L717 at the other end of the platform out of sight (the up line) during bi-directional workings.
