A hiking trail along Ridgeline Trail in Theodore Roosevelt National Park. This trail went to hieights that were among the highest in the park, and offered 360 degree panoramic views of the North Dakota Badlands.

Apart from creating the pano, this shot has had very little editing and is pretty much what I saw the morning I took it. The sky was pale blue, the tree's were glowing in a gentle light from the rising sun and the mist was clearing. It was beautiful.

hello Flickr friends....i just got back from our trip in Sedona and the Grand Canyon...we're still in San Diego though for another 3 days and then we head to Toronto for the last part of our trip.....this was one of my first shots of the Red Rocks in Sedona...this one is called Cathedral Rock and i took this shot from a dammed section of Oak Creek which allowed the water to be still enough to get some decent reflection shots.....took a bit of a hike to to get to this place and when you've just driven 7 hours, it gets to be a bit of a challenge too to push yourself to go out and explore right away....with views like this one, i totally forgot right away that i was dead tired....
shot this using a circular polarizer with a tripod, using my kit lens for my D90 an 18-105mm.....pls.View On Black
sorry if i've been slow in visiting your streams lately but i will try my best to catch up with your streams as soon as my vacay is done......have a good one friends!!!!
Simplygeeky and I parked the car and walked out onto this bridge on Rte. 340 (with very narrow shoulders) that passes over the Shenandoah River. Every time a car passed, the bridge rumbled and shook and I held on to the concrete railing.
The river was so still and made mirror-like reflections. The mottled green colors you see in the bottom right corner are floating leaves and vegetation on the river bed as the water is still pretty low.
Our visit to Iceland was all-too brief as a favorite band of ours and some friends spent last weekend playing in this beautiful venue.
While we had more people than tickets, I volunteered to sit out the first performance to walk the city and grab some shots while the weather remained good - meaning no rain nor heavy winds!
The sunset is being reflected off the right section of the building and then reflecting again off the water.
Ploumanac'h is a very nice village with a natural harbour in Bretagne. It has a very nice lighthouse which perfectly integrates with the surrounding rocks.
We were very lucky in experiencing such an awesome sunset in that location.

Brush Mountain shot from Caldwell Fields, Montgomery Co., Virginia. My go-to place for dramatic lighting.
This was taken at Table Rock State Park when we went camping 2 weekends ago. It is hard to get a clean shot of this waterfall because kids play and swim here all the time. The only time there will be no people here is in the evening :) I used my CPL+ND8 and a 30 seconds exposure for this shot...trying to make those kids invisible, but to no avail...they just didn't want to move :).
Have a great start of the week everyone!
Seen in Explore June 20, 2011. Highest position #121. Thanks everyone!!! :-)
Thanks for your visit, comments, and faves!
Have a great day my friends! :)
Another beautiful result of airplane photography with a circular polarizer. Every time I look at this it gives me the greatest nostalgia for British Columbia, and reignites my desire for exploration. Hopefully I'll be able to return soon to capture more of this kind of beauty, so abundant in the landscape of the west coast.
this was a shot of the Shoin House at the Chicago Botanic Gardens that i took a couple of nights ago...it was starting to drizzle a little bit around this time and i thought that a little long exposure might bring out some cool effects on the water surface as the rain drops hit it.....i was pretty happy with the hints of water movement caused by the rain drops in this frame...this is also my entry for the CBG Summer Photo Contest....would greatly appreciate it if you can check out hte site and vote if you have time....Chicago Botanic Gardens and then go to their Summer Photo Contest, submission for entries ends today and voting starts soon thereafter....thanks folks!!!! pls. Golden streaks of Balsam Poplar (Populus balsamifera) and ribbons of dark spruce descend the slopes along the lower reaches of Hoge Creek several kilometers upstream from its junction with the Donjek River, Kluane National Park, Yukon.
Taking in this scene as we picked our way amongst the many loose stones, I was somehow reminded of a history of native America class I took as an undergraduate in which we read translated portions of Columbus’s journals. Amongst the things I remember 30 years later is the singular focus Columbus brought to his search for precious metal, and above all gold. The phrase “much promise of gold” made frequent appearances, as did the observation that the natives were easily enslaved. Looking back on this history, it strikes me that I much prefer the ephemeral type of gold over which it is impossible to quarrel.

Well, allright, the pic. was actually shot on a Saturday morning. :-) And a circular polarizer was used.
this is the barn/ visitor center at the Volo Bog State Natural Area in Volo, Illinois....this place is only 10 minutes away from my house and i always enjoy visits here especially during the fall season...this was shot around the summer season and used a circular polarizer and then slightly cropped the edges to take away some unwanted, distracting branches in the sides of the frame....pls. shot this one at Lake McCullom in McHenry County, Illinois as the sun disappeared down the horizon casting a beautiful warm glow in the sky, which i think looked awesome with some heavy silhouettes to compliment the golden color cast in the background...enjoy this weekend friends...pls. A broad arm of the salt-water Innvikfjorden reaches up the valley carved by a long-lost glacier toward the freshwater Oldavatnet near Loen, Norway.
The Loen Skylift rises 3,317 ft (1,011 m) from the nearby town of Loen to the summit of Mount Hoven where this image was made. Due to the easy access, this view is oft photographed, but it really is quite spectacular so I thought I might as well have a go. From this perspective, the landscape holds the memory of the glacier that shaped it, and it is not difficult to imagine the vast slow-moving rivers of ice that gouged a pathway through the mountains to the sea. One also gets a sense of just how valuable a hectare of arable land is in this particular part of the world.
if you wait long enough, you might get a shot of this fountain at Millenium Park in Chicago without the throngs of kids playing in the water, which i think could be a great shot in itself too....this family of 4 were i think just taking a breather from all the sightseeing and parked it by the bench to relax a little bit....pls. Looking down into shallow water at Titlow's Hidden Beach ramp.
Pugettia producta, known as the northern kelp crab or shield-backed kelp crab, is a species of crab in the family Epialtidae. Wikipedia
"A group of crabs is called a cast, a term that evokes their collective scuttling movements. Depending on the species and habitat, casts can range from a dozen crabs to several hundred. Within the cast, a hierarchy or 'pinching order' often forms, with larger crabs dominating access to food" (and mates!).
We use a 'pinching order' here at home too.

On Saturday I drove to a remarkable place, but the weather was unfortunately correctly bad. Strong wind, rain and no sun :((( I was however nevertheless very strongly impressed of this beauty.
