The peak of Utegardsnipa affords a spectacular view of the Sørfjorden and its surrounding mountains near the town of Bruvik, Norway.

The family ate snacks atop the broad summit and attempted hand stands and backflips (to be clear, only the oldest son attempted a flip) while breathing in the open space and solitude. Far down the slope, we noticed a man making his way determinedly up the ridgeline at a relatively good pace. When he stopped to chat after reaching us, we learned he is a local, and he informed us that the island visible here was called the Alcatraz of Norway not long ago. Although it is currently owned by a trust that is attempting to develop it into a tourist destination, very recently it was owned and operated by the Norwegian prison system. The grounds served as a place where offenders completed the last portion of their sentences before re-integrating into society. There was little security on the island and people could move around out-of-doors. Apparently several people did swim the short distance to land and escape, but from an American perspective, escape attempts were surprisingly infrequent.

The color version of the previous one. I am actually not sure which one is best. The blue and green tones are quite nice. Have a nice Monday!

i was glad i went on this day for a photowalk and captured the tulips before they all withered away...they are a great way to soften up an image of towering stuctures of steel and glass...hope it works...pls. View On Black

Aquatic plants emerge from the depths of a pond. Sheldon Lake State Park. Texas.

went to the Volo Bog State Nature Area this morning and was able to get some nice shots including this one which was my fave shot for the day....didn't stay long as there was this bee like insect that kept following me all over the place and would land on my head, my hand, my arms and then kind of sting me but was more like an annoying sting....this is a single jpeg file HDR image with zero need for color boost as the circular polarizer already did it's job....might post the B&W and SOOC versions later....pls. 2024-09-08, Day 2

Morning sunlight streams across the Burwash Uplands and creates a striking reflection of Mount Hoge (9,800 ft; 2,987 m) in a small tarn along the Donjek Route, Kluane First Nation, Yukon.

As it crosses the Burwash Uplands, the Route follows an old mining road that looks as if it was created using a bulldozer to push the soil on either side of the right-of-way up into a raised road bed that is some 2-4 feet above the surrounding tundra. While the relatively saturated tundra itself is studded with small willows and Dwarf Birch that are no more than knee high, the old road bed evidently creates moisture conditions that are favorable for much larger willows between 6-15 ft in height. These larger willows crowd both sides of the right-of-way, so even though one is putatively traveling through open tundra, the reality involves poor visibility in the direction one is moving, and thus the constant and not unreasonable supposition that a Grizzly Bear could be concealed in the brush.

Not long after I made this photo, the old road made a turn in a direction we did not wish to follow. We found a dry offramp, pushed through the willows to gain egress, and began an up-close investigation of what it means to walk with no trail through tussock tundra. The ground was covered in a rumpled layer of extraordinarily thick moss, and we were grateful that the season’s melt had largely passed through to lower realms, leaving only small boggy areas that were easily avoided in our quest to maintain dry feet. Amphitheater Mountain is the low, flat-topped snowless landscape feature with a prominent cliff-band in the upper-right of the image. The immediate task was to find a way to pass up and over its northwest flank and then descend into the Burwash Creek drainage where we would follow the creek upward and toward Hoge Pass.

this is the Buckingham Fountain at the tail end of that fantastical blue hour....i was surprised that there were not a lot of people by the fountain tonight which was a good thing at the same time as you could get more unobstructed shots of the fountain....stayed only for an hour as a storm front was fast approaching the city and the wind was starting to pick up a bit....just got back in time to get in my car parked by the Planetarium when the rain started to pour....this frame was exposed for 10 seconds at f/16 and iso200....pls. took this shot yesterday on my very brief visit to Morton Arboretum in DuPage County...this is Meadow Lake, one of several lakes found in this beautiful arboretum...my favorite part of yesterday's visit was walking thru the conifer section of the garden and just smelling sweet pine scent as you walk thru.....this image is a mild HDR process with a 20% color boost......pls. Huge thanks to everyone for the amazing response to my Tower Bridge photo the other day. It is very much appreciated.

I could have done a little better with this one but unfortunately it was raining so I had to pack up. Ideally I would have let the camera run a tad longer to get a better exposure so I'll just have to nag my husband to take me to London again soon so I can try again ;)

This is the view you get from the Sky Garden from the top of the Walkie Talkie building in Fenchurch. No prizes for guessing what the pointy building is ;)

You can book tickets in advance or queue for miles and miles and miles on the day. Either way its free to visit!

You're not allowed to use a tripod up there so I had to adjust my settings to get the shutter speed as fast as possible and then balance the camera on the railing with a paracetamol pack underneath one side to help steady the camera.

Not bad considering.

this was a shot i took that morning when the clouds and fog kept rolling and wrapping around the city on and off...everytime the wind blew, the clouds would just decend and sweep over the buildings and the streets which was pretty cool to see...and this went on for several hours, i actually posted a video clip of this some time ago which i shot from the Planetarium...pls. Clusters of purple asters and a few bright spangles of Scarlet Gilia (Ipomopsis aggregata) dot the meadows near Lost Lake Slough in the West Elk Mountains, Gunnison National Forest, Colorado.

We had hoped to camp by the lake, but finding an open spot during the summer of 2020 proved difficult, as a surge of people sought to escape the fear of Covid in the great out-of-doors, us among them. Although we were forced to move on and find somewhere else for the evening, the walk around Lost Lake is a treat in any season.

The ice has melted; the river is in flood; the trees will soon be in bud...

Narrowleaf Cottonwood (Populus angustifolia), Quaking Aspen (Populus tremuloides), and Gambel Oak (Quercus gambelii) line the slopes above the Crystal River, near Marble, Colorado.

I have been too busy with cider orchestrations this autumn to make it out into the mountains to witness the golden-leaved glory that is Colorado in its richest color. It is a pity that apples ripen at the same time that leaves turn golden, and I will not prioritize the same way next year. In light of me rueing the trade-offs I have made, I wanted to resurrect one of the finest autumn afternoons our family has spent out in the hills in recent memory. We walked from Marble to the Crystal Mill and back, and the leaves were at peak color. Everywhere one turned the trees created a visual feast of golden hues.
