Cigar Boxes, some nice art on the lids. Putting them up on Ebay soon.

The inside of the body and lid, now with bracing and the label glued in place. After asking myself several times if I need to do anything else before gluing the lid shut, the answer was still, "I don't think so," so I went ahead and glued it. No doubt I will think of something once the glue sets.

Painted Cigar box - acrylic. By Howard G. Charing - August 2010

I have never done this before.

I like to reconstuct and decorate boxes.

I find my boxes in charity shops and carboot sales, or get them from cigarsmokers.

I put legs under I paint the box, inside and outside.

This altered cigarbox (19 x 10,5 x h 9 cm)can be used as a little hand created piece of art to sit on a desk or dresser or as a special place to keep jewelry, stamps, paper clips, buttons, barrettes, keys, medication, change or lovely dreams and good wishes.

This "Around The World"- box was a commission.

A gift for a friend who turned 60, in the box were 60 specially made cards.

This beautifully altered wooden cigar-box measures l. 25 x w.16,5 x h. 6 cm.

Probably 1970s small Trans Air radio, hacked to convert to a guitar amplifier. Dimension (in cm) H18 x W11.5 x D 6.5 Quiet amp, little distortion mellow tone. Not gonna blow anyone away, just enough volume to hear an electric guitar at close quarters but cool looking. Runs on a PP3 9v battery. See a video of it on Cigarbox Nation

My fancy new ~40hp DIY Cigar Box Case. Now to find a PSU.

made this Jewelry box for my neices birthday. It was an old cigar box which I added the legs. Painted the box purple with purple glitter paint over the base coat. The legs I painted in purple and pink tie dye effect. I did the lid in a tie dye butterfly patterned fabric in purples, blues and pinks. With a maching tassel trim added around the whole box. and lined in purple felt with butterflies and girl power. I also added a pink heart I painted to match on the bottom with a birthday message for me neice.

The other day I was standing in the paint aisle at Lowe's because I was looking for a clear glossy lacquer varnish I wanted to try instead of using the epoxy resin, and by accident I saw this black chalkboard paint. I had heard about it before because my friend robayre in her infinite creativeness uses it on everything she can think of. It is said she once used it on a pair of shoes. I kid you not people, I know, she's awesome.

So anyway, I just HAD to buy it because how many times you find something like this that can bring hours of creative madness, so I did. I bought a quart of the thing. And I came home and decided I needed a wooden cigar box covered in chalkboard, because why wouldn't I need one? so now I am in the process of painting it and I am sooo excited about it, I cant tell you how much.

It was going to be my first create a thing a day for the month of August but then as usual, life happens all around me, the next thing you know, family is coming to visit all the way from another country and messes happen that need to be taken care of, scraped knees to be tended to and dolls that need new dresses, so it's still a work in progress...

Heres a little ditty of me playing the v0 prototype. I'm suprised it didnt fall apart in the 62 seconds.

The top of the box represented Love, Marriage and Motherhood

Built by "Dulcimers by JR" and sold on eBay. It is supposedly built from "lightning struck cherry wood" which is supposed to give a more distinctive tone.

This is the cigar box in transition. This is in the middle of adding flashing tape. I also had to remove the front hardware, but not the hardware in the back.

While it was gratifying that the instrument didn't implode once strung and tensioned (Mandola strings are heavy-duty!), the action with the current bridge is way too high. A shorter bridge, and deeper nut slots are in order.

This was for the Swap-bot cigar box craft swap. My partner made me a cool art box in a game theme. She filled it with game pieces to use in my collages. :o)

Mysterious embossed cigarbox with cedar lining and engravings ' Y.L.E. [ ? ] Martin 7- 4-15 ' and monograms.

A gift?

anno 2014 I have seen another example; a somewhat bigger cigar box with exactly the same tortoise pattern embossing so these boxes were made on demand.

Compared to the stop-and-start progress on my still-incomplete tenor banjo, this thing is coming together lightning fast. I expect it will be completely finished by next week.

Living on a farm road

Takin' all your time slow

Cheerin' from the bleachers

Don't you wish your life was gold?

I bet you do

Passing out your lighter

Sneakin' through the doorway

Fakin' like you just stayed home

That's how it really goes

You know it does
