TE LAND EN TER ZEE // BY LAND AND BY SEA

I collect and reconstuct boxes. I find them in charity shops and carboot sales, or get them from cigarsmokers.I put legs under I paint the box, inside and outside.
This box (20 x 15 x h 14 cm) can be used as a little hand created piece of art to sit on a desk or dresser or as a special place to keep jewelry, stamps, paper clips, buttons, barrettes, keys, medication, change or lovely dreams and good wishes.
My new 3 string slider, Cigarbox Guitar made from a cedar cigarbox, oak neck, mahogany trim on head, purpleheart nut and bridge. Hinge for tailpiece (also ground for strings) single mag pup. I might burn in fret markers yet. The only pieces purchased were the machine heads and oak pieces. Everything else is scrounged (even the strings....LOL), my total cash outlay is 9 bucks.....God I love this stuff!!!!!

I plan on altering this cigar box in a Tim Holtz inspired style. I'm so excited! I've actually never altered anything like this. I will definitely be photographing the process to share with all of you!
I plan on using this for my Stickles, small bottles of black and white glossy accents, Liquid Pearls and Crackle Paint. It's the perfect storage for these items!
4x5 expired ilford ortho film shot in my cigar box pinhole camera. appx. 1 minute exposure. developed in dektol. developed contact print in dektol with nova monochrome tank.
not a perfect print. it was more of a test print for the camera. but i like it.
The more I think about the steel strings I plan on using, the more it seems like I should add some bracing to the cigar box lid even if it is much thicker than a typical guitar or uke top. I don't have any magical, mystical wood for tone bars, so some 1/4" birch plywood I have kicking around will probably be employed. That top piece is a popsicle stick.
(It is just a cigar box, after all.)

Now that I've made a few of these guitars I realize that the thinner the cigar box is the louder it will play acoustically. Of course if you're playing these electrically it doesn't seem to matter how thick or thin the cigar box is. We have been running the guitars through a mixer and into Macs and using GarageBand for effects. It's very fun!
The front of my finished box. I had originally added the exact same thing that's on top to the front also, but it was way too much with the feet and everything so I removed it.
The angle of the miter box I threw together for cutting 15 degree scarf joints turns out to be a couple of degrees more acute than that... but for the purposes of a cigar box instrument, I don't really care.

There is a 5/8" piece of hardwood on the top of this box. The edges are beveled up to make a rather attractive box. The thick top will allow me to add a hardtail bridge without adding a lot of bracing inside the box.
Old cigar box from one of my grandmas. I kind of liked it so it holds a random assortment of little nik-naks. It even has the old string she'd tied around it to stop the lid flapping open.
