The first Chestnut-sided Warbler of the spring is always special and this handsome fellow had no trouble at all getting my heart pounding. These little beauties love the tangles of second-growth vegetation and this one was no exception. I watched for quite some time as it flitted around in the dewberry patch occasionally popping out for a look around. I got a workout trying to keep up with him.

Just loved this chestnut tree, it was in the grounds of Boscobel House in South Staffordshire...
Nice viewed large...
I must have had at least twenty individuals of this beautiful species pass through last week, and I'm still getting some this week as well. They're curious little things, and many of them approach me closely if I pish, even if they're foraging all the way up in the canopy. Last year, I didn't have many, so I'm glad to have lots of them migrating through... looks like it was a good year.

Pteroglossus castanotis is a bird native to central and south-eastern South America. It belongs to the toucan and aracari family (Ramphastidae). These 3 folks are wild and were photographed early morning - at Pantanal - MT.
A female wood duck cruising on the Wissahickon creek at Valley Green. While not as colorful as their male counterparts, I find the hens to be quite beautiful with the iridescent plumage on their back feathers. View large (L) for the full experience.
It is the back half of the weekend. Enjoy the day!

To add some colors!
The Chestnut-bellied Euphonia forms a superspecies with the Golden-sided Euphonia; both species possess golden feather tufts on their shoulders and are distinguished by the belly color, which is black in Golden-sided. As the name implies, euphonias are good singers. Chestnut-bellied Euphonia is quite an exception to the name, since its vocal repertoire seems to be largely made up by a series of harsh notes resembling the calls of allied species. The bulk of its distribution is encompassed by the southern portion of the Atlantic Forest in Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil. It is not known to migrate and is commonly encountered in mixed species flocks together with Green-throated, Golden-rumped, Violaceus, and Purple-throated Euphonias.
Thanks a lot for your visits, comments, faves, invites, etc. Very much appreciated!
