Tiny bird with a strong bill. Males are glossed metallic dark blue with a chestnut belly and yellow shoulder. Females are mostly olive-green with a gray crown, throat, and central belly. Note the chestnut vent. Found in the canopy of humid forests and forest borders; often accompanying mixed-species flocks. The call is a series of rattling notes.

Chestnut-eared Aracari - Wild - Pantanal - Brasil.
The Chestnut-eared Aracari is a medium-sized toucan of the Amazon Basin of South America, especially the southern and western parts of the basin. It can be very common in its range and has the widest distribution of any of the aracaris. Chestnut-eared Aracari is primarily frugivorous but also feeds on invertebrates. It is an attractively patterned species with a large yellow and black bill, a pale eye surrounded by blue facial skin, dark upperparts, and a yellow belly divided by a red band.

The Chestnut-eared Aracaris really entertained us during our visit to the Pantanal. This one was up early impatiently waiting for some fruit to be put out behind the lodge. It was so much fun watching them zip around.

I took a road trip last week in search of some warbler species that aren't common in my area. This Chestnut-sided Warbler was one of the species I hoped to get a look at.
