While driving to Saskatoon last June I had the fortune of coming across a pair of foxes that were playing in a field right next to their den...

Unfortunately I did not get to see any pups but this male decided to hang around outside the den (the female went in rather quickly after seeing me)...

He allowed me to get rather close (about 30 feet)... and at one time he decided to come and check me out and wondered over within about 15 feet of me, though he showed absolutely no agressive behaviour...

Over a 10 minute or so period I took over 100 shots and this is just one of them... taken when he was wondering over towards me... I am not sure of the meaning of the one ear up one down, but I thought it was a rather cute pose...

NASA astronauts Douglas Hurley, left, and Robert Behnken, wearing SpaceX spacesuits, are seen as they depart the Neil A. Armstrong Operations and Checkout Building for Launch Complex 39A during a dress rehearsal prior to the Demo-2 mission launch, Saturday, May 23, 2020, at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. NASA’s SpaceX Demo-2 mission is the first launch with astronauts of the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft and Falcon 9 rocket to the International Space Station as part of the agency’s Commercial Crew Program. The test flight serves as an end-to-end demonstration of SpaceX’s crew transportation system. Behnken and Hurley are scheduled to launch at 4:33 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, May 27, from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center. A new era of human spaceflight is set to begin as American astronauts once again launch on an American rocket from American soil to low-Earth orbit for the first time since the conclusion of the Space Shuttle Program in 2011. Elsewhere along the front end – in a more noticeable change (lol!) – was the addition of four self-checkout units to this store's roster of registers. Unlike all the previous photos, which solely showcase updates undertaken this year, these self-checkouts were actually installed *at least* by the time of last year's Target Sunday Summer Spectacular, since I mentioned them in the description to this photo. I say “at least” because that photo was taken in 2016, so there's a chance that the units could even have been installed back then!

Unfortunately, I don't remember when these were installed. But they have been here long enough for me to practically forget how this area looked before! I'm thinking, though, that there were four very small checkouts here, likely for customers with 10 items or less. As I recall (if I'm recalling correctly XD ), those were rarely (if ever) in operation. So there's no doubt that these self-checkouts are a great improvement over those previous checklanes.

(EDIT: Yes! I am remembering correctly. Just realized you can see the previous units on the right of this shot.)

Incidentally, self-checkouts are yet another feature that seems to have been implemented in most Target stores, but has yet to make it to Horn Lake. Also, talk about a quick turnaround: I had to run to this store just yesterday in order to take this so that a pic of the self-checkouts could be included in today's set! XD

Big Lots FINALLY reopened its Olean store after a nearly 6-month long remodel....

The store actually shrunk a bit a bit and honestly left me a little disappointed with their new product selection. The store cut back many departments back to move furniture from its prior alcove space into the store itself. Furniture has been expanded to cover at least 1/3 of the sales floor.

Big Lots stupidly cut toys back from 4-5 aisles before to 1 and 1/2 now. Electronics (taking an aisle) is now just the basic headphone and cellphone accessories. I don't recall seeing any movies or video games. Home Office (previously two aisles) supplies looked to have either been cut entirely or share space with the electronics in that one aisle by offering basic pens and pencils.

This location previously sold at least an aisle's worth of hosiery and at least a 1/2 aisle for diy and auto care products. Those departments looked to have been removed entirely.

I asked someone who lives in the Pittsburgh area if there were any stores in the Pittsburgh area that still had an intact or partially intact Kroger interior. I wasn't really expecting much to come from asking that (Kroger has been gone from Pennsylvania since the mid 1980s), but they pointed out this Kuhn's Foods store in Moon Township, PA.

I had saw this store when I was in Moon Township before, but didn't go inside since the greenhouse style entrance on the front was altered and figured the interior had probably been updated several times since Kroger left. The next time I was in the Pittsburgh Area, I decided to stop into this store to see if it was really a Kroger time capsule on the inside. Upon walking in, the decor struck me as being too upkept and a bit too modern to have been from Kroger. I was expecting to see the Bauhaus type interior inside the store. I was a little disappointed, but did notice a couple neon signs (floral and bakery) that appeared to be older than the rest of the interior and thought maybe those were from Kroger. I wanted to verify if those signs were from Kroger. First I took to googling old Kroger interiors to no avail. Then, I took to showing these pictures to a group of people very familiar with Kroger interiors.

Something I wasn't expecting happened; it turned out that the ENTIRE store interior does date back to the store's Kroger days. They identified the interior as being from the early to mid 1980s. That means this store had the newest Kroger store design and interior when it was closed on January 15, 1984 due to a union strike. I couldn't find any mention of when this store was opened as Kroger, but judging by the interior design, it was only open for a year or two maximum. The Bauhaus design was also used in the early 1980s. Kroger did have a presence in the Pittsburgh market since 1928, so a smaller store from nearby likely moved here.

*Apparently, this look still survives in another store as well. That other store was an older Kroger that must have received this remodel right before closing. I hope to visit the other store soon.

When Kroger pulled out of Pittsburgh they sold their stores off to Wetterau Inc. (A food distributor that later was acquired by SuperValu), which then sold the stores off to independent operators. After Kroger, this store became a Shop 'n Save and is now Kuhn's Quality Foods.

This Kuhn's store seemed nice. It was well maintained, clean, and had friendly staff when I visited. I hope this store doesn't get caught up in the grocery industry shake-up that seems to be going on. A Walmart also had recently opened across the street from this store when I visited it.

WEEK 15 – Mansfield, OH, Target (V)

From pretty much the same vantage point (as indicated by that annoying Tide display blocking the bottom half of our view, lol) but turned the other direction, here's a shot peeking over at the checkouts. Looks like this store only has 15, maybe 16 checklanes total. That's actually fewer than Horn Lake, which has 18 – although if you want to count only operational registers, then this store happens to have more, since Horn Lake's checkouts 13-18 all no longer have computers at them!
