Splitting the Searchlights at the east end of Doyle, UP's Chicago & Northwestern heritage unit leads a westbound train from Reno, heading towards former Western Pacific's beautiful Feather River canyon route.

Grand Teton isn't really known for being a great sunset park. The sunrises are typically better, but this night was an exception. The way the sun was beaming through the clouds was crazy and made for a surreal landscape. The only people there was a painter, me, and a couple who quickly took their selfies and left.
Despite all the crazy light going on, I was able to get this in a single frame. At the time, it looked like exposure blending would be needed, so I took six exposures, each one stop apart. The HDR blend just didn't work and looked awful. I could have blended manually, but decided to take one of the higher exposures and just work it. It took some time to get it right, and this result is pretty true to the scene, at least as I remember it. And it still paid to take the series of exposures to at least have the option of how to process it later. Thank goodness memory is cheap these days, but time is still a precious commodity!

Photography needn't be expensive. Some wrapping paper from a Christmas present, the kitchen sink, and a dripping tap! I would love a drop control system but really can't afford to splash out! This one was micro seconds away from a collision which could have been much more special.

A red Chevy Camaro convertible, going cheap! I just had to have it!

A forced perspective shot of my latest 1/18th scale 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 convertible with the backdrop of another section of our village bird pond area.
This model was lying unloved and unwanted in what was effectively a bargain bin at a local auto accessory shop. Upside down, under a pile of other gear, I rescued it, paid the bargain price being asked and gave it a new home. The model is from the cheap and cheerful end of the scale model market, but is very well detailed in most areas, but less so in others. The radio antenna was 2mm thick on the model, so would have translated to a whopping 36mm at full scale. That had to go! But conversely, it has a beautifully detailed engine bay and fully operational suspension! Most importantly, it's red, has shiny chrome wheels and it's a convertible. A perfect day to show it off too!
