that's the day i was born and hence, i had a birthday on april 9th, 2009! AHHHH!
it was a fun day. though it ended with bloatedness after drinking a soy chai at a restaurant. it was the powder mix chai, which, from experience, tends to be laden with dairy... Oh NOES! . . .
in any case, it was still fun. a guy gave me a HUGE purple cellophane wrapped basket of homemade peanut butter cookies he made himself, pretty white roses, funny balloons, and a card about BOOTYBUTTS (the card i received at work was about a toilet and poo... ironic much?)! his mom got me a to-die-for gift card to starbuck's (i whole-heartedly support the local coffee and tea shops, but sometimes, they just aren't around when you need 'em the most!)
then he and i went out to breakfast/lunch/brunch/whatever you wanna call it at T.C. Eggington's. they have great vegetarian choices... "portobellini"... yum! on the way to breakfast, we saw a mother and her tiny baby ducks by the freeway in the puddle-y canal/gutter/whatever you wanna call that. it was cool because it was my birthday and they were cute, yet odd because it was by a freeway and not in a park, or in my school's irrigation or something. them duckies must be suffering economically too, eh?
so after that, i contemplated going back home to work on a commedia dell'arte mask for theatre class, but decided to just veg and hang with this guy at his apartment (i find vegging out, doing nothing a bit difficult to do sometimes).
later on, we met up with my parents to eat dinner at the Euro Cafe in Gilbert, AZ. a great foodsie greeky place. and that's where, you know, *ahem*... the soy-chai-laden-with-dairy-omg-why-did-i-order-this fiasco happened. so after dinner, with all of us feeling like cows (even though i hardly ate anything and they ate like contestants in a hotdog eating contest), we went to Wal-Mart of all places. i'm particularly NOT a Wal-Mart fan, but since i was at Wal-Mart and it might be cheaper than at other places, i bought vanilla soy ice cream because i was magnetized/hankering for some.
we finally headed home around 11pm, after which i quickly shoved this guy out the door and kissed him goodbye, so i could heat up some of those peanut butter cookies and WHAM BAM!... inhale hot cookies n' ice cream. mmmmmmmmmm... no cake this year. and i wanted it that way. no one even sang to me either i noticed, but that's perfectly ok. it's not a crime. wait wait...i take that back: he played the weird al birthday song... so essentially, i was sung to in mp3 format. :)
oh yeah, and at work today for my 'employee birthday'... i made up fruit, granola, & yogurt parfaits for everyone. someone bought all the ingredients (i requested it instead of birthday cake), and i went right to work -- whipping up those babies during my lunch break. i was so amazed some people didn't know what a parfait was or how to make them.
well, now they know :)
suffice to say, i'm on a parfait kick now. i hadn't had one in a year before that day. soy yogurt though. yes, please. :)
p.s. thanks dude for taking these kickity arse photos!

During a heavy downpour at Tamworth, the passengers riding Virgin's 1.00pm London Euston - Manchester Piccadilly service (1H26) barely notice the sharp right-hand turn as the Pendolino cabin tilting mechanism works overtime on the curve.
Meantime the wheels are doing a rather nice job of dispersing the water lying on top of the railhead - I wonder if the passengers knew they'd purchased Cheap Spray Returns?

A Halloween decoration emanates an eerie feeling of omnipresence as it beckons me from the shelf of a discount store. Even in the context of a brightly lit retail environment, full of shoppers and just one aisle away from potato chips, the eyes radiate pure malevolence. In moments like this it all feels directed solely at me. It's almost as if only I can see these things as they truly are, rather than the cheap plastic skull that other shoppers see. My mind always seems to work in this two-track system: interpreting what I actually see versus how things make me feel. There's often a wide gulf separating the two. It's the simultaneous curse and blessing bestowed upon artists. I snapped the picture then hurried on with my shopping. But memories of this moment will linger.

A red Chevy Camaro convertible, going cheap! I just had to have it!
*********************************
A forced perspective shot of my latest 1/18th scale 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 convertible with the backdrop of another section of our village bird pond area.
This model was lying unloved and unwanted in what was effectively a bargain bin at a local auto accessory shop. Upside down, under a pile of other gear, I rescued it, paid the bargain price being asked and gave it a new home. The model is from the cheap and cheerful end of the scale model market, but is very well detailed in most areas, but less so in others. The radio antenna was 2mm thick on the model, so would have translated to a whopping 36mm at full scale. That had to go! But conversely, it has a beautifully detailed engine bay and fully operational suspension! Most importantly, it's red, has shiny chrome wheels and it's a convertible. A perfect day to show it off too!
Face it. Rail fanning is expensive. Like most hobbies, if you try to pursue it for a profit, it's not going to happen. Gas, food, lodging, time, equipment, and vehicle wear and tear are all up front cost to take us to and from our hobby. No matter how many photos we sell to the magazines for "one time use", you'll always be in the red. Now, many of us like to include the drone. I would, too, but I haven't brought myself to that point, yet. However, four days after yesterday shot that I posted on Flickr, I returned to the Belpre Industrial Parkersburg Ohio River bridge with this shot in mind. It all came together with perfect lighting and timing for their train as it returned from Relief, Ohio. This "drone" shot came in the form of a top level parking space in an otherwise empty parking garage adjacent to the bridge in downtown Parkersburg, WV. A decent view to enjoy without looking into a screen. The EMD Geeps humming as they pull the grade with a long train, without hearing buzzing blades. The best part, pulling to the exit gate and sticking the ticket into the slot....."Cash Only" the hand written sign read. Oh, boy, I don't usually have cash on me, but when 50 cents popped up on the screen, I was able to scour that up and drop two quarters in the slot. Drone, bought, used, and paid for. End of story.

This planet seems good. One species seem to be so populous they have infiltrated every continent. They do have some rudimentary language skills but their mathematic ability is so basic they would never be considered an intelligent species. Atmosphere is very similar to ours with minimal terra and bioforming needed making it cheap to colonize.
The fingers quickly tapped the device sending a communication to corporate headquarters that they could apply to the commission to colonize earth with a high degree of probability of being approved.
Within a decade the ships started arriving. Humans objected to being colonized and threw every nuclear weapon they could scrap up. The colonizers retreated back to orbit, baffled by a species intelligent enough to create a bomb that could destroy the atmosphere and stupid enough to deploy it. The colonizers requested equipment to cleanse the atmosphere which was an extra expense. By the time they received approval and the equipment, all life forms on earth were dead except for cockroaches.
The colony shipped in fauna and flora from their original planet. It was much better really. Normally it was very difficult to get permission to make a planet exactly like home. There were groups that fought for planetary diversity but really it wasn't the colonizers' fault the original species killed themselves and almost everything else.
No one was happy about the cockroaches tho. Not even the groups for planetary diversity as cockroaches spread quickly across the galaxies once a few managed to get aboard ships. Major funding was approved to eradicate them. Nothing worked. The cockroaches kept surviving and coming back. Very irritating.

Note: I added texture and the aqua lighting on the right through Photoshop. For the texture, I used NightCafe to create an image with two planets on one layer and then used the SoftLight filter in PS at 40% opacity. The aqua lighting I brushed two circles of aqua, then Guassian Filter to spread them out, then Vivid Light filters at differing opacity for each circle.
This is my original raw picture from SL

Northamptonshire is a rural county on the edge of both the Midlands and East Anglia. With just six main towns - Northampton is by far the largest - and no cities, its predominant feature is gently rolling farmland. Once known for its shoe industry, cheap foreign imports have now taken over and the numerous small shoe factories either converted or demolished. The large steelworks at Corby has closed, though it still has its tube manufacturing plant. With the M1 and the A14 both crossing the county, Northamptonshire has become a major warehousing and distribution centre with new warehouses seemingly being opened virtually every week. Despite this activity and the government's insistence that thousands of new homes be built here, it remains - at least for the moment - a relatively quiet backwater. It was known as the County of Squires and Spires, after its large country houses and estates and numerous beautiful churches. It is indeed still the county of Bridget Jones.
