The afternoon started bright and sunny with a chance of showers. I was exploring the overlook of Holman Spring Canyon when that chance rather quickly materialized, much to my delight. Showing up sometimes pays off.

50/50 chance
Bremen, Osnabrück, Ruhr area, Worms with a break in Recklinghausen. This is roughly how the car train was pre-registered with SEL 181 211. Due to temporary construction work in Cologne, some trains had to take the route via Neuss. Around a dozen photographers were happy that the break was canceled and that the train did not change sides of the Rhine in either Oberhausen-West or Duisburg-Hochfeld. Here on March 13, 2022 at the well-known track warehouse in Duisburg-Wedau.
An insanely cool catch that we managed to get completely by accident.
Luke, Jasper and I were on our way from Chicago to Kansas City, when I spotted a headlight down the tracks on UP's Springfield Subdivision just south of its namesake town. Upon further inspection, we realized we had stumbled upon an incredible train: UP's MBNAS with a gorgeous standard cab SD60 on point. We had known prior that this train would occasionally get the specially painted Alton and Southern SD60s, but had confirmed earlier that they were still in St. Louis. Due to this, we never even thought about the fact that it could potentially have a regular UP paint 60. After sitting in the siding for a northbound intermodal, the extremely friendly engineer put the pedal to the metal and went faster than any manifest any of us had ever seen before. They topped out at 65 miles per hour and we couldn't even manage to get another shot of them due to not being able to catch up (despite Luke driving over 100 miles per hour in some stretches of highway). Despite that slight misfortune, the fact that we even were able to shoot it to begin with is nothing short of a miracle.
This was taken from the car as we came back from France, the sun was going down fast above Flanders' fields, it was beautiful, I chanced it...
I do not often use the word art , but this?
I think it is special, the church just sharp, so typically Flanders. It's rapidly becoming a personal favourite!
...At 70 miles/hour, there's bound to be something in your shot, or when the fraction in time and space is just perfect, yes, you guessed it, a bump or a pothole, grrr... only another type of frustration? Hihi...

An engineering masterpiece for its time, the Last Chance Canal was completed in the early 1900s to divert water from the Bear River to Gentile Valley.

Some of the best trips I've done have been in unsettled weather. The forecast was for cloud with wind increasing through the day and maybe a break late afternoon. If I'd had more time I might have sat out the day and waited for the clearer weather the next day. In the event we took the chance and with an hour to sunset the cloud started to break up.
Here's to 2009 and a chance we will all find better solutions, cooperation, conservation practices, and better days. Cheers~!

Very kind, very smart and oh so very cuddly...a Chance encounter :-)
I'd say Chance is with me ;-)
She's a very good Chance to take...
Chance and I share a love - a love for Ms Katie Parx. Chance is her eldest daughter, I am one of Katie's girlfriends.
We both love her dearly.
We take care of Katie Parx's family while she is gone, but there is no one left to take care of us, so we decided to take care of each other.
Chance is sweet, kind, intelligent and...caring...
I try to mirror that.
I love learning about her...and learning FROM her...
We feel lost without our shared Katie, so THIS Katie takes a Chance and carries on. We will care for each other so we can care for the others.
Ms Katie Parx? We miss you. We love you. We also understand why you are gone. We are okay and are making sure we and your family will be for when you come home...for you and I know there is a Good Chance :-)
With true love for our girl...

She's good people. I have an action for this I'd like to put up for sale, but not really sure how to make it, and others, available online. Is anybody good with that stuff?
Also, I'm looking for a logo and card design. Is anybody good with that?

Although I could see him hiding behind the clump of Marram grass, the Snow Buntings couldn't.
Fortunately for the SBs the male Kestrel didn't manage to grab one - bit unfortunate for my chances of an award winning photo though - but I don't mind :-).
This week I got a chance before rebuild our office to paint something in it.

"Take a Chance on Me" is a song by the Swedish pop group ABBA, released in January 1978 as the second single from their fifth studio album ABBA: The Album. Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad share the lead vocals. It reached the top ten in both the UK and US.
The working title of "Take a Chance on Me" was "Billy Boy". Written and recorded in 1977 by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, the song was one of ABBA's first singles in which their manager Stig Anderson did not assist with writing the lyrics, confirming Andersson and Ulvaeus as a songwriting partnership.
The song's origins sprang from Ulvaeus, a keen runner, who would repeat a "tck-a-ch"-style rhythm to pace himself. This evolved into "take-a-chance" and the eventual lyrics. Roger Palm, the drummer on the track, described the song as "ABBA at their most energetic and forceful".
"Take a Chance on Me" proved to be one of ABBA's most successful chart hits, becoming the group's seventh UK #1 (and third consecutive chart-topper in the country after "Knowing Me, Knowing You" and "The Name of the Game"). It was also ABBA's final #1 in the UK of the 1970s, and gives the group the distinction of being the act with the most chart-topping singles of the 1970s in the UK.
I finally had a chance to swing by Proctor and witness the “missabe miracle” for myself. The final pair of DM&IR painted units on the CN roster reunited for the first time in several years this week, the pair came together on Monday September 20th but duty kept me away until the following Friday. A stiff west wind and steady rain didn’t keep the fans at bay however, this surprising turn of events has enticed just about every fan in the region to come take a peak. More the merrier I figure. It is bittersweet however, i just worked this job (the night version) the week prior, I would have skinned a kitten to have had this pair on the job. As it was I got the 211-212 dressed in CN red and black... still, sd38’s in any form are pretty significant!
Ancoats, Manchester
A first proper outing with me ol’ mucker – Eddie ‘Rainman’ Coulson of 2021 and the chance to post something not from the last decade. We’ve both been dabbling in Etsy in recent months and decided to go and shoot some of Manchester’s historic landmarks with the view to printing some of them. I must confess I’ve never been to this part of town and initially made straight for Anita Street, which has an interesting history going back to the Industrial Revolution, but I’ll write about that in another posting. Sankey’s is further afield and quite a well-known landmark, but if you didn’t know where it was you could spend hours walking around this part of town and never spot it.
Luckily, Eddie knows the area well and pointed me in the right direction. The weather on Friday was glorious and sunny, but not a cloud in sight, so you’ll have to forgive me with this subtle replacement sky. So good to be out and about again and shooting some new material.
It has quite an history as a nightclub… here’s a condensed summary
Sankeys first opened in Manchester as "Sankeys Soap" in June 1994. It was so called due to its residence inside Beehive Mill, Ancoats, which once was used to manufacture soap. The basement of the mill was transformed into a club and live music venue by Andy Spiro and Rupert Campell. After nearly going bankrupt only six months after opening, the venue managed to keep thriving. However, in 1998, due to financial problems, Sankeys Soap closed its doors to the public.
In 2000, the club was revived by business partners David Vincent and Sacha Lord-Marchionne. This time the club was more successful than before, tackling the problems that had crippled its previous owners. In 2006, the club was forced to close once more, much to the dismay of clubbers. David Vincent announced that this time Sankeys Soap would be closed for good.
Later that summer, it was announced that the club was to re-open under the shorter name Sankeys. It would be under the direction of David Vincent who invited Andy Spiro to get involved once again. During its closure the club underwent a major refit involving a brand new LED lighting system and featured the "hatongue" who took over from the legendary "Mad Graham" after the PAR cans were removed. The main DJ booth was also replaced by a new circular box.
In 2009, owing to the success of the new club, 15 further changes were made to celebrate 15 years of the Sankeys dynasty. These included dynamic ceiling lighting in the Spektrum (the upstairs part of the club) as well as a beach constructed with 50 tonnes of Bahamas Sand and the introduction of a state-of-the-art barcoded entry system. In 2010, Sankeys was voted the number one club in the world in a DJ Mag reader poll.
Following the success of 2010, David Vincent announced plans to create "Seven Sankeys" of the World in the seven cities that inspired the original Sankeys.
The music policy at Sankeys was varied but focused on underground electronic music, mainly House & Techno. The club also hosted one-off nights from outside promoters.
Resident DJs over the years included Greg Vickers, Bushwacka!, Jozef K, Darius Syrossian, Ellesse, Ryan Croft, Adam Chappell, OD Muzique, Pete Zorba, and Luke Welsh.
On 11 April 2013, Sankeys announced they would be closing the doors again on 6 May 2013.
On 12 November 2013, Sankeys announced on their Ibiza Twitter feed that they would be re-opening Manchester in January 2014.
On 12 January 2017, Sankeys announced that they were permanently closing with immediate effect, after the building they occupied had been sold to be turned into apartments.

I met that lady and her master while out walking yesterday. She wasn't too sure about a stranger taking photos of her.
On my way home to Chicagoland for Thanksgiving, I noticed that CPKC's ex-CP Holiday Train was headed west down the Chicago Sub at the same time that I'd be headed EAST.
Well, as I was traveling with my wife and two cats, it quickly turned into the classic "math class word problem," as to where I could intercept it with as little down time as possible. Sure enough, the answer was "just west of Leaf River, IL, along with ALL of the other nerds. This was my first time to this location, and I can absolutely see why it's as popular as it is, with the Byron Nuclear Generating Station's cooling towers looming in the background.
Chance and I have become amazing friends. For AGES I have wanted to step out on friend date with her and FINALLY we got to!
We went to Fogbound because the music is good, the dance machines always updated and the place crowded enough that nobody knows us.
She wore the sweetest dress, so I wore the swankiest slacks and we just danced the night away.
Both of us have had experiences there with people who later didn't do right by either of us, so us, together there, rewrote over allll the bad as we made some good memories together.
Also I got to dip her. A lot ;-)
Je t'aime ma ami belle!
