A cold day, despite the sunshine, so the Thanksgiving snow still lingers. Everything is under a frozen white blanket and the forecast for each day has included a "chance of snow flurries"....feels like Winter. Almost time to begin the Spring countdown!

Happy Fence Friday, my friends, have a warm and wonderful weekend! :)

A Fox cub which we came across this morning, it is not a perfect shot by any means it was a lucky shot as I had my camera with the beast on tucked under my arm and swung around very quickly to take a shot, settings were all over the place but after some work I have this image, not perfect but am thrilled to to have seen this little fox cub.

just happened to come by when I was done cleaning my camera lens

After leaving work today it immediately opened up on me. Such events provide opportunities.

Just another frame from this bridge highlighting more of the intricate rusted ironwork.

I only got one chance to see this year's edition of the AAPRCO trains in Vermont. Alas I missed most of their runs, but on their last day as they departed the Green Mountain state headed back to Albany where the cars would be dispersed I did get out for a few hours. This was my first visit to the famous Vermont marble town of Proctor and this pretty train didn't disappoint. With a pair of VTR red geeps and 14 cars (13 private passenger cars and VRS' power car) it made for an impressive sight, particularly so when the sun peaked out. They stopped here for a photo runby, and I took advantage and decided to go for something a bit atypical framed in the old iron railings of the Main St. bridge at MP 60.45 on Vermont Railway's Northern Sub mainline.

Such a nice view from the 2nd bridge we came to this morning, at Newhall Valley Park. A little egret - can you see him? A thoroughly lovely walk, friendly people with their dogs. Everyone said "good morning" and we were very happy, Marnie and I. So I made a picture and here it is - hope you like it !

First of all, many many thanks for your very kind comments on our house renovation yesterday it is very much appreciated we are so very happy with it.

I went out last night to Cissbury ring after hearing that pony's were now let loose up there to graze and keep vegetation down. I had been there a while making a few compositions when I heard some commotion and along came six pony`s, I did my best to get near them to get some shots but they would not stay still for me, some ran off leaving these stragglers behind, I think this was the best shots I was able to get with a darker shot for the sky to blend together.

We were both ,simply, going for a walk in the park---

In 2024 I was in Cornwall for just one day to get some of GWR's HST's on photo. I thought they would decommission the HST's before I had another chance to get another chance. A year later and they are still around. As I had an invitation from GWR to dine for free on one of their Pullman dining services, I decided to head for Devon for that single HST a day that makes its way up to Exeter. My journey started at 6am in The Netherlands and I ended up leaving London Paddington at 7pm. Normally I'd get to my hotel in Torquay just after 10pm. However Network Rail and GWR got my journey delayed by 2 hours. So luckily the first photo opportunity was quite late in the morning. So after a well deserved night sleep I went from my hotel in the beautiful seaside town of Torquay to another seaside town: Dawlish. I had a lovely day here enjoying the town and the natural beauty along the coast. And of course I got some trains on photo, including the treasured once-a-day round trip to Exeter. Just before noon I got the westbound track from Exeter to Penzance on photo. The sight just makes me wanting to come back. And in fact, the next day I left for Manchester, only to come back a day later.

Pull me out from this dark world. This is you .... I have my last chance. Donโ€™t give up on me my love โ€ฆ..

Let me see the sunlight one last time . Let my cold heart feel your warm love. Let me kiss your leaps one last time.

We were moving some items around in the house one day and had placed these by the window. I liked the backlighting from the window on a sunny day with snow outside.

I saw this VERY leaf hanging from its rustic lichen covered fence a few weeks ago, but passed it by without taking a pic. Another opportunity missed...or so I thought. I had completely forgotten about it. Until yesterday, that is. As luck would have it, there it was, this Giant Maple Leaf, its stem lodged in the fence, still hanging SO perfectly, and just BEGGING me not to pass it by again without snapping a pic.

Thankful for a second chance to photograph this beauty! ๐Ÿ˜Š

We never have a chance to see the Aura, until last night. I didn't even know about it, we usually are way too far south to see this special event. Congrats to the lucky person that captured this beautiful moment!

A bit of drama in the sky this morning as a frontal system passed through. We raced down to the lookout and snuck in a few quick shots before beating a hasty retreat.

I really liked the authenticity of this guyโ€ฆ the cool, quiet way in which he wordlessly allowed himself to be photographed. I showed him this picture and he asked me to send it to himโ€ฆ which of course I did.

As I ascended the top of Whistlefield Hill near Loch Eck I descended into a bank of fog. I wanted to create a misty, mysterious, backlit photo but by the time I got everything set up the mist had moved on, so I had to settle for this.

This weekend has been a weekend of second chances. We were planning to go to the beach for the final weekend of summer, but I unfortunately got very sick which appeared to put quite a bit of a damper in our plans. Yesterday afternoon, Alicia and I prayed for wisdom on whether or not we should go especially since I had been and still was sick. We believed that it was a yes, so we packed up our rental and made simple sleeping accommodations in the back and we headed on our way. Another means of grace on this trip was our sweet brother and sister in Christ gifted us with door dash money since they knew we had been going through a lot. This definitely came in hand in regard to providing food during our trip which was extremely helpful. After going to the beach that night, we drove up to Tettegouche where we camped out for the night. We both woke up early (4:00 a.m.) and unfortunately Alicia ended up getting sick from me. We decided to head home earlier than expected and left before sunrise so that we could both get some rest. As we were heading back down, the sky lit up in a full array of colors and to be quite honest, I was scrambling to try and find if there was a quick place I could stop to snag a quick photo. Nothing was opening up in the right position until I got to Split Rock Lighthouse State Park where I quickly drove down to the beach and sprinted to the beach from the car. Thankfully, this sunrise lasted quite a bit longer than average and I was still able to capture the beauty that remained of it.

There were a couple of very important things that I was convicted on this morning. (1). It was way more important to take care of my wife than to see the sunrise no matter how beautiful it was. So often, I can become quite selfish around sunrise as I have my own plans of where I want to go and what I want to shoot, often not realizing that in that moment that I can end up neglecting the needs of others. (2). Even if I didn't get a picture of the sunrise, I still got to see it. I still witnessed the glory of God in His creation whether I got a picture of it or not. If getting the perfect shot is the end goal for me, I have missed the whole purpose. It is to marvel in awe at the wonders of God that lead us to worship Him that should have a far greater purpose than to merely just take pictures of a place. (3). God is so gracious to me and it is all so undeserved! This past few weeks have been really hard for me as I have felt very burnt out and angry. The last thing that I deserved was grace. God gives us so many undeserved second chances. I am amazed at the kindness and radical mercy of God!

The Last Chance Saloon is one of few remaining businesses in Wayne Alberta, a one time bustling miners town in the heart of the Alberta Badlands. To get here is a journey, one that takes you on a slow ambling drive over 11 single lane wooden bridges. That part is not only fun, it makes the beer taste better at the end....:-)

My visit to the Badlands included a few trips to the Last Chance, one in the evening with some colleagues. The restaurant was closed but we were permitted to BBQ our own steaks out back while the proprietor prepared some trimmings for us. That was a very good night....:-))

Flickr friends of mine, Lorien & Joe, from Calgary have also visited this area and have put together a wonderful set from this area, their version from this saloon can be seen here.

BTW, I was told by the bartender the hotel and saloon are for sale, $750K should do the deal just fine

Chances never wait for you. Decide your right choice when you have a chance. That's gonna make your life have a big change after.

I passed my chances like never look back.

But when i looked back, i saw that really a big mistake to not take those chances.

And.. i can never go back to take them again.

Maybe one of the last chances (for this season) to take some milky way shots. This picture is taken just after astronomical dawn at Glaubenberg in central Switzerland. The short photo night was accompanied by some belling stags close-by. Pretty fascinating but somehow creepy too...especially when they seemed to get closer and closer...

The afternoon started bright and sunny with a chance of showers. I was exploring the overlook of Holman Spring Canyon when that chance rather quickly materialized, much to my delight. Showing up sometimes pays off.
