I had the chance to watch this spectacular sunrise above the Cuernos in Torres del Paine, Chile.
The light and the lenticular clouds were changing every minute.
I took hundreds of photographs. I'd like to share just 5 of them.

I've subsequently seen a wide variety of images of the landscape here in very different conditions. We just chanced upon it looking for a sunset spot just after getting off the plane. Need to re-visit in the snow!

What is it? It's the No Chance Saloon. It's Bedrock Bar, The End of the Line Cafe, The Bottom of the Sea Rathskeller! Don't you notice the beautiful calm in the atmosphere? That's because it's the last harbor. No one here has to worry about where they're going next, because there is no farther they can go. It's a great comfort to them. Although even here they keep up the appearances of life with a few harmless pipe dreams about their yesterdays and tomorrows, as you'll see for yourself if you're here long.

A Chance Encounter..
Peaches.. The smell of peaches captured my attention..
It was unusual for such a crisp autumn day
Looking up from my usual coffee and paper morning routine to find its source..
I saw her.. she was young.. yet elegantly dressed with a sophisticated presence..
She was struggling with a huge great Dane.. which gave me a chuckle as he did not want to walk any further and he was clearly winning the argument.
She sat down and ordered ..I glanced back at my paper, but something about her demanded my attention..
A slight breeze blew by as she tucked a few strands of her hair behind her ears..
I grabbed my sketch book and tried to capture her in that moment..
I began to wonder.. let my mind drift and a story began to form.. surprising myself as many months had past without any.
Words.. began to flow it was difficult to keep up with..
I look up.. she had gone.. small sense of disappointment flashed across my mind.. but smiling knowing the story had just begun.

As I waited for the fog to clear somewhat for another photo, I saw this silver birch tree behind me. Love how it's given itself a fighting chance to grab some sunlight from underneath the canopy of pine trees. I guess I'm rooting for it (pun well and truly intended).
My "Critters in Winter" series continues today with something more conventional (after an insect and an arachnid, equally improbable to find active at this time of year). American Robins nest and breed in the village; during May and June their wake-up calls begin around 3:30 to 4:00 a.m. Some years they linger quite late and get caught in the first winter storms. This surely must decrease their survival chances; migration is a hazardous time for them even when all goes well.
My own misgivings aside, robins and other migratory passerines have provided me with plenty of good photo ops in the late fall and first days of winter. In 2014 my neighbour, Adam, had a bumper crop of crabapples on his trees, and half a dozen species took full advantage. So did I. I especially liked the obvious colour co-ordination here, and the hoarfrost that coated all the branches and fruit.
Perhaps this fruit festival powered them southbound to their next stopping point, likely somewhere in Montana. I'll never know. But the robins keep returning each spring, so whatever they do seems to be working for them.

I had seen this truck in Cambridge ON at a tire place. But it was always sitting in an odd spot blocked by a telephone pole. Then one day by chance it was on a side street in Paris on. I get out my camera and take a shot.

I was looking through some of my images from a few years ago and realised that I had not uploaded this particular photo to Flickr. It was, most probably, a once in a lifetime encounter with this wild chameleon as we were walking along a path in Spain.
