You have to wonder what the chain was used for when you are inside the Wagon Gate house at the West Virginia Penitentiary.
The Avison Ensemble is performing at Bamburgh Castle on Saturday, 4th September 2010 a programme of Jacobite rebellion music by Charles Avison and Handel. Bamburgh Castle is the perfect setting for the concert as it has strong links with the Jacobite Rebellion of 1715.
We're celebrating our first anniversary of joining Flickr and want to show you the amazing venues we've played and recorded in during the year, most of them in the North East region and some in London. The Avison Ensemble is the outstanding period instrument orchestra based in Newcastle upon Tyne, which plays and popularises the music of Charles Avison (1709-1770) and other English classical composers of the Baroque period, such as Garth, Arne and Herschel. The Ensemble also performs Purcell, Handel, Vivaldi, Corelli, Geminiani, Pergolesi, Teleman, Rameau, Bach, Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven.
The church of the Monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes, built by Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile from 1477-1504. The chains are those of Christian prisoners freed from the Moors.

The Széchenyi Chain Bridge (Hungarian: Lánchíd) is a suspension bridge that spans the River Danube between Buda and Pest, the western and eastern sides of Budapest, the capital of Hungary. It was the first permanent bridge across the Danube in Budapest, and was opened in 1849.
It is anchored on the Pest side of the river to Széchenyi (formerly Roosevelt) Square, adjacent to the Gresham Palace and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and on the Buda side to Adam Clark Square, near the Zero Kilometer Stone and the lower end of the Castle Hill Funicular, leading to Buda Castle.
The bridge has the name of István Széchenyi, a major supporter of its construction, attached to it, but is most commonly known as the Chain Bridge. At the time of its construction, it was regarded as one of the modern world's engineering wonders.[citation needed] It has asserted an enormous significance in the country's economic, social and cultural life, much as the Brooklyn Bridge has in New York and America. Its decorations made of cast iron, and its construction, radiating calm dignity and balance, have elevated the Chain Bridge to a high stature in Europe. It became a symbol of advancement, national awakening, and the linkage between East and West.

L'université qui a accueilli 18 prix Nobel dans ses murs, a été lauréate de nombreux appels d'offres dans le cadre des investissements d'avenir, visant à en faire un pôle d'excellence dans l'enseignement supérieur et la recherche au niveau mondial.

A rain chain is attached to a gutter in place of a downspout. It looks a lot nicer and can be incorporated into the landscaping. It's also a lot of fun to watch during a rain storm.
