There are three of these Golden Chain Trees up the block from me.. They are so pretty in the spring but the flowers don't last very long.. The tree is poisonous and I personally would not have one in my yard as a safety precaution no matter how pretty they are....

This is part of a piece of a driftwood sculpture on a beach of Lake Washington, likely bound by chains to prevent teenagers from rolling it.

Here I wanted to draw out the contrast of the metal, the wood and the bark. Both are degrading in their own way; the wood is cracking, the bark is peeled, and the chain is rusting.

Although color would pull out the rust more, I felt I would lose some of the texture contrast of wood and bark, so here I stuck with black and white.

The day before the Red Bull Air Race. The streets along the Danube were closed, even the right hand side of the "Chain Bridge". Sorry about the traffic sign on the left. It ruins the geometry. But I wasn't allowed to remove it. :-)

In the neighborhood park, the trash cans (mostly used for bags of dog litter) are chained to a stake in the ground. I don't suppose there is much concern with theft, but I have seen occasional mischief, such as rolling or stomping on the cans. I am grateful the trash is collected regularly, and new cans show up when the old ones are sufficiently rusted.

Had my old 5D converted to infrared. The family holiday in France gave me the opportunity to have a little play. This was taken in a lovely little town, Beynac, on the Dordogne.

Echo and I waited for Emory at the train station today as he went up to Seattle to attend his grand daughter's wedding and returned home today. Echo handle the strange sounds at the depot really well---the loud rumbling of the parked freight train [see below] didn't phase her.

Also: Posting early--i'll be away tomorrow:

I've got a pregnant cat to trap tomorrow at my cat colony. I tried to trap her earlier this summer but she was wise to my trap so I only trapped her kitten and decided to wait until Fall to trap her when the migrant workers had moved on. But Felipe says it looks like she could have kittens any time...so I must act fast. Wish me luck. I will not be on Flickr until tomorrow night.
