Irvine harbour dates back to the 17th century when the river Irvine changed its course. A timber quay was built with locally built (William Morgan of Kilwinning) rail mounted cranes in the early 20th century. The wharf remained in use till the 1980's and is now in the care of The Scottish Maritime Museum. The crane stands idle now but appears to be able to resume its former duties if required.
The Chain Bridge is a suspension footbridge over the river Tweed near Melrose in the Scottish Borders. The Eildon Hills are in the background.

This is my third Inktober submission, I drew this specifically for Inktober. I used several images I had taken many years ago at the harbour in Owen Sound for reference.

-[ X is for Xetron failsafe ]-
A 35mm projector failsafe from a defunct manufacturer better known for their xenon-arc 35mm projection lamphouses and consoles. (I was trying to avoid using brand names this year, but that tricky letter X forced my hand.) Failsafes were an important component of projector automation, shutting down the projector in the event of a film break or when the film ran out at the show's end.
This failsafe is a later design with an optical cue detector, used to control house lights, sound, masking, and projector functions. Unlike traditional detectors using strips of foil applied to the film edges to complete low-voltage electric circuits as the strip passes through closely-spaced roller sets, this one uses either reflective foil or, in the case of one theatre chain's system, bar-coded labels tied to specific actions. The foil or labels were applied onto the picture area, a serious downside to this arrangement leading to brief, distracting blemishes projected onto the screen.
My eyes were drawn to a gate to a field on a farm which was chained to this tree.
I was taking a landscape shot at the time. but for a while I forgot that as
I loved the rust and the moss and the textures....I just had to take a photograph.
Nerdy, I know ;-))

We found this old chain wrapped around a hickory tree at our place. Someone had placed it there many years ago. The tree had grown and the chain was becoming really tight. Breaking the chain with a bolt cutter felt good.
Shadow play in Piraeus.
Interestingly, the Flickr tag robot automatically included 'diagonal' - well spotted - but also added the tag 'lettering'. Which alphabet?
I remember making decorations like this as a child at Christmas. We called them paper chains. All that was needed was paper, glue and scissors. Shot at the Dartmouth Public Library.
This is a gold chain that I have been wearing for several years, pretty much 24/7. I took it off for long enough today for a photo shoot for this week's Macro Mondays "Gold or Silver" theme, and to play with a custom bokeh shape.
The shot was taken with a Nikkor 50mm enlarging lens (forward mounted), with a 36mm extension tube, and a custom bokeh shape.
