HD and The Habibie Center (THC) brought local stakeholders and interfaith actors from both sides of the divide together in a neutral setting for them to discuss the communities’ issues.
HD and THC organized capacity building workshops on dialogue, mediation and peacemaking. These workshops were tailored to the local context and targeted at relevant interfaith actors or institutions. They included trainings on practical skills such as mediation approaches and what works for different contexts; explored confidence building measures; and communication skills in a conflict setting.

Copyright Kevin Cooper Photoline: Two Northern Ireland executive ministers Edwin Poots, Minister for Health, Social Services, and Public Safety, and David Ford, Minister for Justice, spoke to an important conference, which examined radical new mental capacity legislation for NI. The half day conference examined radical and progressive proposals to protect the rights of those with Mental Health and Mental Capacity issues, when making personal healthcare, finance or legal decisions. Organised by Chambré PA in association with Disability Action, the event took place in the MAC, Belfast and discussed the development of the Northern Ireland Mental Capacity (Health, Welfare, and Finance) Bill. The conference, which was chaired by Seamus McKee, BBC Radio Ulster also heard from a number of experts Kevin Doherty, Director of Services, Disability Action, Pat McConville, Mental Health Legislation Unit – DHSSPS, Professor Roy McClelland, former Chair of the Bamford Review, Dr Colin Harper, Manager, Disability Action’s Centre on Human Rights, Pat McConville , DHSSPS, Professor Roy McClelland. After a short coffee break the conference also heard from Tom Haire, Head of Criminal Law Branch - Department of Justice, Dr Frederick Browne, Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, Bill Halliday, Chief Executive, MindWise NV and Clare Irvine, Principal Legal Officer NI Law Commission. (Pictured Above) Computer Skills Training Program for National Electric Power Regulatory Authority: As part of the USAID Power Distribution Program’s Organizational Assessment and Restructuring initiative for the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), a three-day training session was conducted where participants were taught advanced computer skills, designed to enhance employee proficiency in Outlook and Excel. Through this intensive training program, participants are instructed on the advanced functions of both software, which in turn will improve their competency and capacity from intermediary to advanced level.
Petting Zoo by Minimaforms is speculative robotic environment populated by artificial intelligent creatures that have been designed with the capacity to learn and explore behaviors through interaction with participants. Within this immersive installation interaction with the pets foster human curiosity, play, forging intimate exchanges that are emotive, evolving over time and enabling communication between people and their environment. The installation exhibits life-like attributes through forms of conversational interaction establishing communication with users that are emotive and sensorial. Conceived as an immersive installation environment, social and synthetic forms of systemic interactions allow the pets to engage and evolve their behaviors over time exhibiting features and personalities that are formed through their interactions with the general public. Pets interact and stimulate participation with users through the use of animate behaviors communicated through visual, haptic and aural communication. Pet interactions are stimulated through interaction with human users or between other pets within the population.
EAF-Nansen project holds Forum and Steering Committee meeting in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
From 7 to 12 October, the EAF-Nansen project organised a series of events in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. On 7 October, the second joint meeting of the Regional Steering Committees of the project was held; it attended by 61 participants from 26 African countries and represenatives of 10 agencies comprising Regional Fishery Bodies, Large Marine Ecosystems (LMEs) projects, Norad, IMR, FAO and other United Nations agencies. The joint meeting of the RSCs assessed the implementation status of the EAF-Nansen project and updated the activities that contribute to capacity development. Past surveys carried out in 2012/2013 and the plans for surveys in 2013/2014 were also discussed. The Steering Committee was followed by the Project Forum, the Norad/FAO/IMR se-annual meeting and the meeting of the Task Force for the development of the second phase of the project.
The third Forum of the EAF-Nansen project was held on 8-10 October under the theme: Implementation of the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries– Progress Made in Africa. It was opened by the Deputy Minister of Livestock and Fisheries of Tanzania in the presence of Mrs Lise Stensrud of the Norwegian Embassy in Dar es Salaam, and Mr Soren Dalsgaard, Ag. FAO Representative. The Forum discussed the development of the second phase of the project with working groups constituted to discuss the proposed components.
Not all water disputes lead to conflict, however; and not all conflicts turn violent. Some fester perpetually beneath the surface and, as with limited access to potable water and improved sanitation in many parts of the world, are part of settled social relations. However, a change in the setting – such as an unexpected drought or flood, or a change in government policy, or the appearance of an NGO willing to drill a borehole for a community – can bring long suppressed grievances to the surface.
This workshop was organised in Nairobi from 02 to 05 November 2016. It gathers water professionals and put emphasis on Alternative DisputeResolution (ADR), in particular, principled negotiation – an approach that seeks to embed outcomes and processes that will serve sustainable, equitable and efficient long-term social needs.

North West Counties League Division One action at the Manchester Regional Arena, a 6,500-seat venue built for athletes to warm up during the 2002 Commonwealth Games. Hosts Northwich Manchester Villa (green & white hoops), new tenants this season, are playing neighbours Chadderton, whom they defeated 2-0.
Northwich Manchester Villa began life in 2005 as Woodley FC. They progressed to the North West Counties League, in 2011, via the Cheshire League. Various relocations led to the names Northwich Villa and Northwich Flixton Villa being used. The club, keen to establish themselves in east Manchester having moved to the Manchester Regional Arena in summer 2015, plan to become Manchester Diamonds for the 2016-17 campaign.

A brief stop in Port Ellen on the way back, to allow those with less bladder capacity than others to avail themselves of the pub's facilities! It was probably the most excitement Port Ellen saw that day!
Port Ellen is not named after Ellen Someoneorother, but is a corruption of Port Eilein, referring to the hoard of little islands and skerries that guard the mouth of the bay around which the town is built. We are coming back here in a couple of days, to take the ferry back to the mainland. I am not sure we ever actually saw any signs of life here. It is a quiet kind of a place!
