The path that runs along the Saltings embankment at the RSPB Ynys-hir nature reserve near Machynlleth, this was taken just outside the Saltings hide. Hidden on the other side of the embankment on the left is the Dyfi Estuary with the Tarennau mountains in the distance.

From Castell y Bere

Looking out from the Castle ruins in Llanfihangel-y-Pennant on a glorious day earlier this year. I liked the contrast in this scene between the tree and bracken covered lower slopes of Craig Pen y Meini on the right to the fertile pastures of the valley and grazed hillside above rising to Esgair Berfa.

Looking towards the summit of Diffwys at the southern end of the Rhinogydd range from old ruins on the northern slopes of Cadair Idris. Behind Diffwys are the summits of Y Llethr and Rhinog Fach.

Pared y Cefn-hir 383m rising above the waters of Llyn Cregennen. What this hill lacks in elevation is more than made up for in its ruggedness, interest and stunning views. The lake is one of two natural lakes owned by the National Trust and collectively known as Llynnau Cregennen, they are located high above the Mawddach Estuary to the north while immediately opposite to the south (right) is the western end of the Cadair Idris ridge. The area is a designated SSSI.

Looking west down a huge field/pasture by the river Dyfi on the outskirts of Machynlleth in Powys, there are trees scattered along its length many of which are probably remnants of previous hedgerows, this oak is the first in line. One taken late afternoon in early spring with a few patches of snow still on the hillside.

Les enfants aujourd'hui. Pas de respect! Paris, France.

Taken from the top of the Dylife mountain road SE of Machynlleth looking across the moorland towards the summit of Pumlumon. The track passes Glaslyn lake before disappearing over the hillside to the twin lakes of Bugeilyn and Llyn Cwm-byr before eventually ending at the edge of the Hengwm valley.

The River Dyfi on the outskirts of Machynlleth, Wales with an Alder silhouetted against the late afternoon light. I wonder if it will still be there after the next flood.

Grabbed a shot of this little chirper while preparing dinner this evening.

The twin summits known collectively as the Tarennau* seen across the Afon Dyfi at Glandyfi 8km south of Machynlleth. Bathed in sunlight on the left is Tarren Hendre* 634m while there seems to be a snow shower on Tarren y Gesail* 667m on the right. The river at this point is tidal and only a couple of bends away from the estuary proper. On the right is Glandyfi Junction with its platform lights and signalling mast, here the Cambrian Coast Railway splits with the north bound line crossing the bridge to commence its beautiful coast hugging journey to Pwllheli, the other line continues south to Aberystwyth.

taren - escarpment

hendre - winter dwelling

cesail/gesail - armpit

He was very busy chasing a female around, hence the reason I never got a good shot of her. The poor thing had enough on her plate. lol I'm not sure what he had grabbed at this point. Maybe it was for her.

Sunset on the Mawddach Estuary

Another image looking down on Aber Mawddach taken approx. 30min later than a previous image and at a longer focal length. On the left is the costal village of Fairbourne with Abermaw ( Barmouth ) over the Cambrian Coast Railway bridge and behind the headland to the right.
