This single plant appeared in the garden a couple of years ago, it flowered beautifully for that summer, I wonder if another will make an appearance this year. Warm late afternoon light after a rain shower.

a small ranch near Haskell, Oklahoma

This is from my archives, but it looks pretty much the same today. I live about a half block from the Highlands Ranch Mansion and adjacent working cattle ranch. When we moved here in 1991 there were pronghorns and deer that would venture through the open space. The deer still come by once in a great while but we haven't seen any pronghorns for a long time.

Happy Slider Sunday : )

Arkansas River bottomland near Haskell, Oklahoma

Another one from the garden, a Chive stalk on a windy day. This one appears to be fighting against the wind and moving in the opposite direction compared to the ones in the background. I love these purple flower heads and can't bring myself to nip them off to preserve the edible quality of the plant.

One from last summer, a view across the lake Llyn Cynwch to Foel Cynwch located a few miles from Dolgellau, Wales.

Very dark Birch tree trunks reflected in the waters of a ditch next to a wet woodland, the base of these trees were well under water.

A scene from the parkland of Dol Idris, Minffordd, Tal-y-llyn at the base of Cadair Idris looking across the wooded edge of the small lake with Mynydd Rugog* behind. It had been a rather damp afternoon but the mist slowly started to clear.

*rugog probably from grugog meaning heathery.

Looking out from the cold shade of the Ynys Eidiol viewing screen on the RSPB Ynys-hir Nature Reserve over the pool and reed beds bathed in the warm light of late afternoon with the Tarennau hills in the background.

One from last autumn looking up Cwm Cau to the summit of Craig Cau at it's head, at it's base but hidden by the moraine is the beautifully located lake Llyn Cau. The slopes on the right eventually rise to the summit of Cadair Idris. I must have sat on that flat rock hundreds of times over the years to admire the views around the cwm before continuing up the mountain. Rather a dull afternoon weather wise but it's always a pleasure being up here.

Another wild flower image from the garden, Serenllys mawr in Welsh meaning "large star flower", as the "wort" in the name implies this beautiful wild flower had some medicinal value in this case as a herbal remedy for a stitch.

Late October around 30min before sunset looking down on the river Mawddach meandering towards the mouth of the estuary at Abermaw ( Barmouth ) Wales.

Taken early last autumn with some colour starting to appear. This is a scene looking across to Nannau Hall an historic house near Llanfachreth and Dolgellau north Wales with the hillside of Foel Cynwch rising behind. The present house was built in the 1790s on the site of an earlier building built in the 11th century by Cadwgan the son of Bleddyn ap Gynfyn The Prince of Powys and became the ancestral home of his descendants the Nanneys. It has been empty for many years and it's sad to see it deteriorating, a wealth of info on it's history can be found on the website nannau.wales. I have removed a few small items from this scene, a piece of agri machinery from in front of the house and a couple of small items from the side, all objects that could easily be taken away from the location.

Cenhinen Pedr ( Peter's Leek ) in Welsh referring to St Peter. One from a couple of years ago, I didn't get round to photographing any this year when at their best.

A misty woodland edge as the mist was slowly lifting and some light appearing, taken near Y Wylfa, a hill on the outskirt of Machynlleth while on one of my regular walks from home during the lockdown here in Wales.

I haven't been on flickr for the last six weeks so a lot of catching up to do once again.

Serenllys mawr in Welsh meaning "large star flower", another image from the garden. Plants with wort in their name indicates that the plant used to have some medicinal value, in this case it was as a herbal remedy for a stitch.

Look up and kiss me is one of several names for this particular plant but it is more commonly known as London Pride, Saxifraga x urbium to give it it's botanical name, Balchder Llundain for us in Welsh, a garden plant but often seen naturalised in the wild. An excellent low maintenance ground cover with masses of tiny flowers 5mm across.

A view west down towards the Mawddach estuary from the Precipice Walk path near Dolgellau, Gwynedd on a beautiful but very windy afternoon. Bright summer sun and strong wind, not the best conditions for photography.

One from a beautiful day last spring, looking up to Cadair Idris centre with Cyfrwy and it's arete to the right. These northern slopes are very exposed to the westerly winds shaping the hawthorns that manage to survive here.

These bees have been very numerous in the garden again this year, attempting something different during the lockdown.

Looking west to Cwm Cau with the imposing Craig Cau at the head of the cwm. The summit of Cader Idris is the middle high ground ground on the right. Heavy rain was not far away but managed to get down just in time before a downpour. Hand held on a very windy afternoon and noticed later that the stabiliser was switched off unfortunately.

On a very windy day up on Dylife to the south of Machynlleth. The track leads westwards far into this wild part of mid Wales, passing the lake Glaslyn before petering out on the edge of Hengwm valley beyond the lake Bugeilyn which is not visible here. Along the horizon, Pumlumon and it's ridge on the left and Hyddgen with it's large twin bronze age cairns in the middle distance, the more prominent hill on the right is unnamed.

Llyn Cynwch near Dolgellau, Gwynedd, Wales.

Double Crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritus) and a Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) face off over a treetop perch

Cyfrwy and it's famous arete with the summit of Cadair Idris behind, taken from the north side. This was my first time back on the mountain in over two years so was a very special day for me. I didn't go to the top this time but will be working my way back soon I hope as fitness levels improve.

A scene from the shore of Llyn Cynwch near Dolgellau, Gwynedd, Wales, with the hill of Foel Cynwch beyond.
