Cannot beat a cliche summer beach shot - these ones have vivid coloured doors and line up beautifully. The Shadows created tell the story of an early arrival on a quiet beach front.

This was the sunset over Birkenhead yesterday evening. I cannot remember seeing a more intense or more beautiful sunset before. Well after the sun had disappeared the small part of sky over birkenhead remained an intense orange color, slowly shrinking to the black of night. This is one version I took. This has simply had curves adjustment and dodging and burning.

I cannot imagine the strength and duration of the forces that first assembled and then fractured this cliff face. At the same time, I loved the abstract appearance of all the hues and cracks in this natural stone wall near the end of the Hidden Rocks Trail in George Washington National Forest near Briery Branch Virginia. (The end of the trail is atop the cliff.)

I cannot ignore the RAW photos of my largest white dogwood. I love how the sun lights up this tree's flowers. The texture of each petal, especially in the photo without sun, reminds me of a waterfall.

Geez . . . I cannot believe it was 44 years ago today, that I took this shot at the Toledo, Ohio C&O Rwy. coal docks. The 1911 built tug Pennsylvania of the Great Lakes Towing Company has just tied up alongside the tug Kentucky from boat assist duties and wears a little ice on her front end from spray. In the background the handsome 1924 Great Lakes Engineering Works built Ford Motor Company laker Benson Ford awaits her trainload of coal to arrive for the Ford Motor blast furnaces in Dearborn, Michigan - December 10, 1978. The Benson Ford ran until 1981 when it was retired and in 1986 the forward pilothouse end was purchased, removed and loaded on a barge. The Benson Ford Shiphouse is now located in Ohio on the Lake Erie islands of Put-in-Bay, this classic shipfront is now a magnificent four-story vacation home on a cliff overlooking the lake. A web search will turn up some stunning images of the restored home with all the old furnishings.

Rock

This protuberance looks like an open eye on the surface of the rock; there is another protuberance on the other side, but it is not open. There seem to be two or more minerals, but I cannot identify them. Back to Geology 101!

Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for all of your kind comments -- I appreciate them all.

I cannot quite describe which is more special, seeing the sun first rise and light up the orange canyon walls or having an entire National Monument to yourself. Either way, it made for one very beautiful and special morning. Colorado National Monument is one of the lesser known beautiful places in Colorado as it is farther away from all of the big mountains and ski resorts that Colorado is known for. However, it is still definitely worth stopping to see if you are out in the Western part of the state. I am very thankful I got to make this side detour over here and witness such an incredibly beautiful and special morning that the Lord had made!

The first picture in a small task I have given myself. Simplisity in expression, in colours, edit and words.

The settings are created by great and wonderful people on SL who opened their sims for us all to have fun. The words will be small grooks made by a Danish mathematic and poet called Piet Hein.

You cannot visit Brugge, and return without a photo with or of a SWAN. Why Swans in Brugge?

THE LEGEND:

At the end of the 15th century, the oppressed people of Bruges rose in revolt against the unpopular Emperor Maximilian of Austria.

They captured Maximilian and imprisoned him in the Craenenburg House on the Market Square, together with his equally unpopular adviser, Pieter Lanckhals.

Lanckhals was condemned to death and Maximilian was forced to watch the execution.

The Emperor eventually escaped and later took his revenge: he decreed that ‘until the end of time’ the city should be required at its own expense to keep swans on all its lakes and canals.

And why swans? Because swans have long necks – and the Flemish for ‘long neck’ is ‘lange hals’ – or ‘lanckhals’!

And so a city legend was born…

Reality? More likely…

The first swans in Bruges go back to the Middle Ages.

In the early 15th century, Bruges bought the right to keep swans from the Count of Flanders.

At that time swans were a symbol of distinction.

The killing or stealing swans was forbidden.

Swans were first mentioned in the city accounts in 1403.

At that time the swans tended to stay on the vests around the city because the canals were the water highways of the city and too busy for the swans.

A Mute Swan (Cygnus olor), sleeping with one eye open.

The mute swan is commonly associated with romance because of its stark white beauty, graceful swimming and the fact that it mates for life.

Yet there are many things most people don’t know about this swan, including that it is not native to North America and it can be one of the most aggressive waterfowl.

I chose this strong graphic composition, because I wanted something different. Hope you like it too.

I wish you a day full of beauty and thank you for your visit, Magda, (*_*)

“Instead of worrying about what you cannot control, shift your energy to what you can create.” - Roy T. Bennett. While there are still some limits to what images I can shoot and how I can shoot it, I am finding ways to shoot creatively wherever I can. This is a small section of a bigger local waterfall we visited two weeks ago. It shows more details and colors in the layers of the rock. I liked how the upper waterflow is a thin veil which shifts to a stronger flow as it goes over the next ledge.

Cannot believe that it is actually June. This was taken at the beginning of the week but don't be deceived by the patches of blue sky: the clouds were hurtling by as it was so windy and it was decidedly chilly. Today, and for the next few days, we have rain and more rain.

What cannot be pictured is the depth

with which the water moves against itself,

in such abstraction the eye can find

no break, direction or point of focus.

Clearer, and more possible than this,

is the circular horizon...

Cannot stand still. We will surely be sucked into the other side of the escalator. We must accept the reality of our new altitude.

You cannot go wrong when your day starts with a great grey owl sighting. Such magnificent creatures. This one is backlit, with the sun just above the tree tops behind the owl, creating a halo of brightness around the bird's plumage.

Rockhoppers cannot slide on their bellies like most penguins. Instead, they hop to get from one place to another, which is how they got their name.

I cannot think of a better day to have completed the SWCP. I walked along with a big smile on my face remembering all the milestones along the way. It was like reading an epic novel - happy that you have finished it but disappointed not to be part of that adventure any more

What do you do when you find the bird that you think cannot possibly be the bird in front of you ?? Well I thought the best bet was to post it on Flickr ! I stumbled across this bird between Snargate and Fairfield on the Romney Marsh in Kent Uk and was pretty sure it was a Caracara I reported it to the bird observatory at Dungeness and one other expert . I have since found out that this is not the first report of Caracara in this area of kent . No one seems to have lost a bird like this zoos ect and it has no rings on its legs or cut feathers so where on earth did it come from and how did it get to Romney Marsh !

I put this image into the Flickr "Your Best Shot 2017" Group and was so pleased to find it chosen by Flickr to go into a gallery curated by Flickr of 46 images " Your Best Shot 2017 - Birds " www.flickr.com/photos/kentwildlife/37019698112/in/gallery...

Some feelings remain - and cannot be alleviated - no matter how much time passes. We can only try to learn to live with them ... On this occasion - in memory of my wonderful mum - it will be my 15th Christmas without her:

Inspired by: Il Divo - Mama

Mama thank you for who I am

Thank you for all the things I'm not

Forgive me for the words unsaid

For the times I forgot

Mama remember all my life

You showed me love, you sacrificed

Think of those young and early days

How I've changed along the way (along the way)

And I know you believed and I know you had dreams

And I'm sorry it took all this time to see

That I am where I am because of your truth

And I miss you, yeah, I miss you

Mama forgive the times you cried

Forgive me for not making right

All of the storms I may have caused and I've been wrong

Dry your eyes, dry your eyes

Cause I know you believed and I know you had dreams

And I'm sorry it took all this time to see

That I am where I am because of your truth

And I miss you, I miss you

Mi mancherai

Mama I hope this makes you smile

I hope you're happy with my life

At peace with every choice I made

How I've changed

Along the way, along the way

Cause I know you believed in all of my dreams

And I owe it all to you mama

While winter weather is my least favorite, it does have the great benefit of making the kitties snuggle more. Those furry sweeties are my heaven and the perfect leg warmers!

Cannot help myself converting these to Mono, the light and calmness of the situation was perfect, reflections in photography are something I'm very interested in.

I just cannot pass these falls I have to come and have a look. The water was not so peaty in colour as the last time but the falls were just as spectacular.
