A CH-113 Labrador in Search and Rescue (SAR) colours. This airframe was in service from 1964 - 2004.

Over those forty years, the very sight of this SAR workhorse would be cause of both feelings of elation and relief, for thousands of men, women and children, who would see it coming over the horizon - to their rescue. Often hearing it long before they could see it. Airlifting them from remote communities, ships at sea (often pitching in the dark in horrible storms), plane crash sites in the remote wilderness and pretty much anywhere else you can imagine across Canada's diverse and remote topography.

The 2016 Fort Lauderdale Air Show featured a full capabilities demonstration of the Canadian Air Force CF-18 Hornet. It was the first time the CF-18 Hornet Demo Team has performed at an air show in South Florida!

Each year the CF-18 Hornet Demo Team has a theme and a custom paint scheme. The 2016 theme will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) or more commonly referred to as “The Plan.” The Plan was a massive, joint military aircrew training program created by the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, during the Second World War.

It remains the single largest aviation training programs in history and was responsible for training nearly half the pilots, navigators, bomb aimers, air gunners, wireless operators and flight engineers who served with the Royal Air Force (RAF), Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm (FAA), Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) during the war. Under a parallel agreement, the Joint Air Training Scheme, South Africa trained 33,347 aircrew for the South African Air Force and other Allied air forces. This number was exceeded only by Canada, which trained 131,500 personnel on bases across the country.
