Stayed in Agua Calientes for the night and shopped for souvenirs. A word of advice - don't shop for souvenirs in this town! Go back to Cuzco or Puno.
This statue is in the main plaza (Plaza de Armas) in Agua Calientes. Most plazas will have a similar statue to commemorate their Inca heritage.
Everyone wants to sell you something. If they aren't trying to do that, they are inviting you to their restaurant. My most useful phrase is probably: No quiero comer ahora.
South America Trip, Day 5: Trains run through the middle of Aguas Calientes, the town that is the gateway to the Machu Picchu complex in Peru.
The common assumption is that I'm Japanese (which I'm not). Japanese tourists are very common here, even before Fujimori's presidential term in the 90s.
It had recently rained on my visit and this bungalow took on a darker shade of washed-out green. I always take pictures of this weathered and washed-out green bungalow when I am in town. I do this because I know that one day I will visit this area again and this house will be gone like so many other old structures and houses that I have taken for granted. Nothing lasts forever and this house is one of the last remaining structures in Caliente. It just seems that each time I visit this town, another piece of it is gone.
