Union Pacific have a bad reputation when it comes to locomotive paintwork condition, with many of their GE's looking vary faded and tired. During my trip they always seemed to manage to put the worst loco on the front, and this one certainly took the biscuit! AC44CWCTE No. 5897 leads a westbound manifest into the Caliente horseshoe. 03 March 2023.

I like how the perspective distortion seems to bend the building, while emphasizing the close part. I'm going to have to play with that effect more.

BNSF 6858 leads this Z-Train (Z WSPSTO9) on the Union Pacific Mojave Sub. in Caliente, CA. Currently hard on the brakes as it twists down grade coming into the big curve in Caliente.

Having just arrived at Caliente, BNSF 7843 cools it's heels as it waits for the stack train that's just run past it to clear the section ahead, it can be seen climbing towards tunnel 1 in the back ground

As seen from the hills above, a loaded BN grain train meets a UP manifest along Caliente Creek. In just a few turns, the manifest will begin its climb up Tehachapi Pass.

SD70M 9808 and 9812 lead their manifest freight through the Caliente horseshoe curve on April 1, 1995. To the left you see the swing helper set (SP 9773, UP 9267, UP 9238, SP 9678), which I saw several times that day.
