I used cherry preserves because they're tasty. I had problems getting the cakes out of the pan so I cut them into pieces right out of the pan and then assembled them individually.
This was for my son's 2nd birthday, he just loves farm animals!! There have been quite a few farm cakes on Flickr lately...
All chocolate mudcake with hand modelled animals from fondant. His Dad even helped make the ducks.
I think the cow could have been a lot better, but at 11.30pm I'd had enough ;)

4 tiers 6, 6, 8 and 10 inch dark chocolate and cherry ripe mudcakes covered in dark chocolate ganache and covered in fondant. Green and pearl lustre dust painted, royal icing and sugarpaste decorations and isomalt gems. All edible.
I had problems with my fondant and the edges cracking! Quite a few drama's along the way but still happy with how it turned out. Just hoping it is still okay for the cutting of it tonight!
I was very, very excited to be asked by Cake Central Magazine if I could design and make a cake for their upcoming issue that related to either a garden, birdhouse or both. I was given a four day deadline (which is absolutely ridiculous for a cake this big) and there was no guarantee it would be included. So with much stress and little sleep, this is what I came up with. I'm happy to say it made it in the magazine! I wish I was given more time as I would have done something a little more 'showstopping'.
I've only been doing this for a year so it was a bit of a shock to be asked, haha.

Veronica, do you remember this cake I made 5 years ago? (lol...it definitely looked better than it tasted) Do you believe there's a group called "Like a Burger". I'm going to post this.
Piano celebration cake complete with a music teacher figure holding a bouquet of roses at the edge of the cake, This is a rectangle shaped cake complete with piano keys or keyboard, musical notes and a simple decorative edge. Our little guest of honor is crafted out of fondant and gum paste and one dowel for travel support! Her dress has capped sleeves with pleats and pearl buttons and her skirt is finished with a lovely scalloped bottom and hemstitch detail above. The is a decadent chocolate cake with a layer of mousse filling and a layer of ganache filling. all covered with a final layer of Belgian chocolate infused buttercream frosting and a final layer of fresh fondant. We were quick to hear what a great success the cake was and how surprised the guest of honor was! :)
