cwd572 - Pink: Like red, but lighter.

Fact about me: When I was a junior in high school, I helped my mom make my prom dress. Prom was approaching and I must of been concerned that the dress was not going to get finished in time. I got in a fight with my mom over the issue of it needs to get done NOW! I guess I had a fit of furry and threw a bottle of finger nail polish at my mother. EIther it wasn't completely closed or it hit the floor and exploded, but anyhow, finger nail polish went flying all over... some landed on my mom's glasses and there is a nail polish stain on the basement floor (it is still there). To this day I still don't believe I did that... not a very mature thing to do.

This picture was taken at the U.S. Botanic Garden on the Capitol grounds. ( www.usbg.gov/ )

It was very crowded and as I slowly entered the conservatory from the Lobby I snapped off about 6 pictures - this was the best of them.

Behind the roped in area was a huge Christmas tree with a train running around it. The little boy and his mom were waiting for the train to reappear from behind the tree.

Side note: I had a hard time shooting from the hip - I felt like I was invading someone else’s privacy. Don’t get me wrong – I enjoyed this challenge but I don’t think I’ll be shooting from the hip on a regular basis. Does anyone else feel that way too or is it just me?

My first assignment for the Class with Daves group. Face Flip - Take a photo of a face, chop it in half, flip it, and see what you get.

Both of these faces were created from the same photo of my only child. One of these faces was created from one half of of her face, and the other was created from the other half.

Since I finished my degree back in 2005, this is the first chance I allowed myself to do any type of photo manipulation which wasn't for anything except for my own pleasure. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my work, but it is nice to take time out for yourself every once in a while.

Which one for duotone?

The oysters or the morning margarita or the cooler?

==========

From Louisville Farmers Market

$6 for 1/2 lb

I made a soupy thing. Initially I started off making what Pel recommended but then it morphed into something else by the time I was done with it.

To 1qt low sodium organic chicken stock, I added 1 qt water. Then threw in the oyster mushrooms. Added some tamari and thin sliced ginger. A few slices of jalapeno. Then I realized I had baby spinach I needed to finish - so in it went. As did the last of my purple kohlrabi, also thin sliced. In lieu of bamboo shoots, I told myself. I added some vinegar from my pickled jalapenos, too. And some red cabbage. Salt to taste. When the soup boiled, I dropped one well beaten egg into it. I served this soup over a little nest of soba noodles. It was yum.

Tomorrow, I am going to add some coconut milk and green curry paste to this concoction. And serve over soba noodles again.

Dawn dish detergent + bowl + water + wire whisk = lots of tiny, foamy bubbles!

Also found picmonkey - HDR effect along with an added frame.

one of my all time favorite poems:

The rose

Some say love, it is a river, that drowns the tender reed

Some say love, it is a razor, that leaves your soul to bleed

Some say love, it is a hunger, an endless aching need

I say love, it is a flower, and you, its only seed

Its the heart afraid of breaking, that never learns to dance

Its the dream afraid of waking, that never takes the chance

Its the one who wont be taken, the one who cant seem to give

And the soul afraid of dying, that never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely and the road has been too long

And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong

Just remember that in the winter, far beneath the bitter snow

Lies the seed, that with the suns love in the spring becomes the rose.

cwd413: Board Games

I have a huge drawer full of cereal packages - (did´nt make an interesting shot...) - we are three in the house and we all like to have different choices for our breakfast... - to give you an example there is Cheerios, Honey Nut, Kellog´s korn flakes, Special K, Bran flakes, Wheetos, regular oatmeal and Müsli... - writing it down makes it sound crazy...

never mix cereal with sex !!!

thinking of assignment 1. Cereal. I read an advertisement for a cereal restaurant the other day that said 66% of Americans surveyed said they enjoyed sex, but 94% said they loved cereal! How much do you love cereal? Tag with cwd421

Taken with my wide-angle in our shower. Well, it's the reflecty bits on the outside of the shower.

I've decided that I really want to restart 365, but if I do it'll be to do some weird stuff like this. I'm contemplating doing the project only with reflection-plus-camera shots, with the emphasis on the abstract. I'm sure I could come up with enough ideas...

This was inspired by Take a Class with Dave & Dave, and is intended for submission to one of this week's assignments:

"cwd322: Self-Portrait With Camera - We've all seen the lazy self-portrait where the photographer points his camera at a mirror and clicks the shutter button. The challenge here is to take a photograph of yourself taking a photograph of yourself...and find a way to make it interesting."

For the CWD group. Assignment: Zig Zag.

So... I know this is lame and not well thought out. But all my zig zag plans fell through. As I was sitting at my desk today, waiting for a file to render... I had my hands like this... (these aren't my hands though) and I saw the zig zag pattern. Again, it wasn't my first or second choice... but it's late... and I wanted to get all three in.. so there ;-P.

Nothing really worth noting today. Just trying to get some work done.

Also, had a CWD assignment that I kept trying to get to, but between work, the podcast, paying photography/videography clients, family and friends... didn't have much time.

One of the assignments was to stitch together a panorama. So here's my office in all it's glory ;-). To see all my toys go HERE.

Assignment: The Rainbow - Take a shot full of vivid colors. At a minimum, we must be able to clearly identify at least three of the following colors in the photo: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. (tag with cwd41)

17 December 2013

This is the school my son graduated from in 2006. It was hit by a tornado in February 2008. The tornado hit on Thursday morning and the county schools were closed on Thursday and this high school was also closed on Friday. It was ready to reopen on Monday.

Tornado damage included:

At the far left is the football field. The press box was damages along with one of the stadium lights was blown over.

The gym ceiling (the building at the left) had a few leaks.

At the far right is the Freshman Center and it suffered some leaks.

The black pickup truck at the right was running and I wondered what why. Before I left an SUV pulled up next to it and out of the truck came a couple dressed for the prom. They were riding with another couple in the SUV.

As I look at the picture I see light and dark sections. The pano includes six pictures. The camera was set on a tripod and I started at the left and panned to he right. The more I practice the better I'll get.

The free software was easy to use. It worked like magic after selecting the pictures and following the directions to stitch.
