Assignment 3. Flora. We've all been seduced with those beautiful pics of amazing plants. They're easy to love, and there will always be crowds of people telling you how wonderful they are. Here's the trap: An interesting picture of a plant must do something different than we've already seen. I'm not sure how to be more helpful. Be creative, show us plants in an amazing new way. Abstract. From wikipedia: Abstract art is now generally understood to mean art that does not depict objects in the natural world, but instead uses color and form in a non-representational way. You are free to create your abstraction entirely in-camera, in post-processing, or as a combination of the two.
This shot was taken through wire shelving cubes I have in my living room. I focused on the center panel, and everyting else fell into place. I changed the hue so the walls would appear purplish/pink; this was done for my personal, abstract reasons.

KABUL, Afghanistan (Feb. 3, 2011) -- A group of Afghan Girl Scouts recite the scout motto during their meeting. These girls are part of the Marastoon Boy and Girl Scout Troop in Kabul. The troop currently has more than 200 scouts and hopes to have 400 in 2011, said Tamim Hamkar, a scout trainer for the Marastoon troop.
cwd183: Magazine Ad - We're due for another design assignment, don't you think? Choose a product (real or imaginary) and create the ultimate magazine ad. You must use a photo taken this week...add text and other graphics as you see fit. Since your image (in theory) will be used in a magazine, it must have the appropriate aspect ratio -- something along the lines of 8x11. I'm not dictating an exact size (magazines vary), but it certainly shouldn't be square and it shouldn't be wider than it is tall. Have fun! Let's see how professional your ads can look!

Assignment 1. Unprocessed. Your picture must be exactly what comes out of the camera. No cropping, no color work, no shenanigans. We will allow resizing for flickr, and you may spot your images to remove any dust specs.
The Afghan Women's International Team (in red) played a friendly, yet competitive, game of soccer against a team of International Security Assistance Force women (in gold) on April 1. The game ended with neither team scoring a goal, but the real goal of the game was met. The Afghan women had an opportunity to play their sport against another women's team.
The team does not get the opportunity to play against other teams in Afghanistan, so the game was chance for them to play a new opponent and build a relationship with women from several NATO countries, said Khalida, the coach, and a player of the Afghan Women's International Team.

This is actually a picture of a lightpole with three round white lights...its the ones they have in the parking lot at Walmart...I only have a lil cheap camera and all that showed up was the white lights....I just played with the colors and this is what I came up with that I liked....the little square to the right is the buggy rack...lol

Coincidentally, the tattoo includes a swirl of cards around the skull's face, therefore I am submitting this as a Class with Daves Assignment. I've been so busy since Xmas that I didn't even realize that I'd missed the last few weeks.
Week 54, assignment 3.
Possible submission for:
Assignment 1. High key. The "key" of an image describes the nature of the tones presented. In a High key image most of the tones will be brighter than middle gray. Bright background, bright subject, and the dark tones take on a supernatural power to highlight what you want to show.
Cwd173 : Light in the frame. The Kodak guides from the 70’s will tell you to put the sun behind the photographer, shining on the subjects face. This invariably results in pictures where the subjects are squinting into a bright vacation sun. Your challenge is to present an image where a light source is in the frame. The light in your image does not need to be the sole source. Realize having a light in your image may freak your exposure meter out. Have an idea of the image you’re after, then execute it. Don’t be satisfied until you achieve your vision.
Even though no one from the thread picked it (because no one commented on my light photos), I'm picking this one because I really like it.

Bizarrely using the Stagecoach stand and not the National Express one - that's to the right, which as you can see, is empty. Hmmm.
cwd2861 ~ Grass It's green and generally grows in people's
yards. Take a photo where grass is the main (or prominently featured)
subject.
cwd 2801 ~ Fill the Frame redux From way back in Week 9: "Robert Capa tells us 'if you're pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough!' Take his advice, and get close to your subject. You know you've got it if there is no background, just your subject in frame."
This is a bit grainy due to light conditions but I like the surreal effect regardless

Your moral bankruptcy is evidenced by your acts of wanton recklessness and the deliberate use of coercive force and terror tactics against gentle and innocent creatures.
It has come to our attention that a Gnome is being held captive in your garden. We do not, as a rule, negotiate with terrorists, however, we request that he be released immediately. Already your actions have prompted copycat offenses, which we have witnessed, including the deplorable use of a Gnome as a hood ornament.
We understand that you probably were not responsible for the innocent Gnome's original capture but rather purchased him from a Gnome slave trafficker like a garden center or craft show. Please understand that we are not holding you responsible for the state of Gnome slavery in America.
