Shenandoah National Park, Virginia

Three years ago to the month (September 2012) the Big Meadows landscape was forever changed when the National Park Service/SNP Wildlife Management Division wreaked havoc on the Whitetail deer population with tranquilizers and radio-collars.

The end result of the events that took place here 3 years ago: many of the mature Bucks came up missing and were never seen again, and in time the overall herd was reduced.

They wanted folks to believe the sky was falling and that CWD was about to take over the park. 3 years later, still no CWD. FACT: as of today, only 10 deer total in all of Virginia have tested positive between 2009 and 2015.

Even if CWD were to show up at some point in time, is it the 'fatal wildfire' they make it out to be? Decide for yourself after reading these statistics & facts: CWD: THE TRUTH BY NUMBERS.

Bottom line: nature has taken care of itself for millions of years, and without any intervention from man.

So I kind of hate Cubism. And I think I kind of hate photographic attempts at cubism even more, I think. So, creative work-around, or snarky cop-out? I haven't decided.

Did a bit of stock clean-up yesterday. This is syrup that had extended its life time by a year.

A nice opportunity to play a bit with the aperture for flash settings. This one (f/22) worked best with the subject.

Dew-covered in the morning. I like how it turned out more creepy than I thought it would.

cwd772 - B&W Flowers - If there's one subject that just begs to be photographed in color, it's flowers. But since that's been done over 6,000,000 times, I thought we'd try something different. Give us your most interesting black & white flower shot!

this is the first picture i have ever seen on explore while "exploring" explore.

i got overly excited and my daughter laughed at me.

CWD 2-8-2 12642 (Montreal 1945) on shed. The broad gauge engine shed was located opposite the metre gauge depot (behind the camera) to the east of Idgah station.

I wasn't the only person wandering around the sheds but I was the only one showing any interest in the steam engines & taking photos!

These locomotives were built for the upsurge in traffic during WWII & since British builders were fully occupied they were manufactured in Canada.

Assignment 1. High key. The "key" of an image describes the nature of the tones presented. In a High key image most of the tones will be brighter than middle gray. Bright background, bright subject, and the dark tones take on a supernatural power to highlight what you want to show.

this is not really comically creative or even sublime, but its a park i visit alot to relax and unwind... and the park in a former life part of a concrete processing plant which took the sand and stone from the river to the plant.. in its hey day this conveyor belt would rumble day & night... now its a wonderful green park..
