For Take a Class with Dave and Dave assignment: perspective
I'm not actually sure what this is myself - it's about 30 ft. tall and steel. It's either a really cool sculpture or there's going to be a REALLY big sign on top of it.
one of my all time favorite poems:
The rose
Some say love, it is a river, that drowns the tender reed
Some say love, it is a razor, that leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love, it is a hunger, an endless aching need
I say love, it is a flower, and you, its only seed
Its the heart afraid of breaking, that never learns to dance
Its the dream afraid of waking, that never takes the chance
Its the one who wont be taken, the one who cant seem to give
And the soul afraid of dying, that never learns to live
When the night has been too lonely and the road has been too long
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong
Just remember that in the winter, far beneath the bitter snow
Lies the seed, that with the suns love in the spring becomes the rose.

This could also be a square... but ... let me leave it as an abstract.
cwd141 - Abstract. From wikipedia: Abstract art is now generally understood to mean art that does not depict objects in the natural world, but instead uses color and form in a non-representational way. You are free to create your abstraction entirely in-camera, in post-processing, or as a combination of the two.
cwd1142 - Art Recreation Redux Redux ~ We had a lot of fun with this one back in Week 8 and then again in Week 21. Your task is to choose a piece of art and recreate it as a photograph. You may NOT use the original work in yours -- your entire creation must be original (i.e. you can't take the background from the Mona Lisa and just replace the face).
What a mish. But really enjoyable. I've learned heaps about PhotoShop putting this together.
I took photos of different things around house & then used those photos to grab the colours I needed. All the collaged pieces are from photos I've taken - even the white background was a picture of a piece of white paper.
The original looks like this ... www.tate.org.uk/servlet/ViewWork?workid=9396&tabview=...
Matisse used different paper to collage the snail ... and if you look very carefully, there's a small snail in the upper left corner ... just like in my copy.

Pain bad enough the other night that I had to hit the heavy drugs.
I'm too exhausted to care how bad I look in this shot.
I think we all should drink more milk. I just heard on the radio today that the price of milk and corn is dropping while the cost of crude oil is rising due to some strike. too bad farmers can't strike, but they need to be able to feed their families.

i don't have the "triangle", but i do have the light variation. am i close? i used window light, the sun was setting so it was a good source of directional light. i didn't attempt this the first time around, too uncertain if i was "right" and almost didn't submit this. my model was a restless one, and self portraits just weren't working out!! but i won't know if i don't try!

cwd183: Magazine Ad - We're due for another design assignment, don't you think? Choose a product (real or imaginary) and create the ultimate magazine ad. You must use a photo taken this week...add text and other graphics as you see fit. Since your image (in theory) will be used in a magazine, it must have the appropriate aspect ratio -- something along the lines of 8x11. I'm not dictating an exact size (magazines vary), but it certainly shouldn't be square and it shouldn't be wider than it is tall. Have fun! Let's see how professional your ads can look!
Note: I don't have photoshop, so this assignment was really out of my league.. but I did the best I could with what I had. I was severely limited by the software, I had alot more "features" to mention. Oh well, whatever.
Tribute to stick here
4 seconds was the most my camera would give me. The 8 previous photos in my photostream are the outtakes if you're interested. It was more of a challenge with 4 seconds because I had to get the amount of movement timed perfectly. I regret that my braids don't show up here.

there is some degradation from the wide angle lens here, but I'm still pleased with the shot.
The Afghan Women's International Team (in red) played a friendly, yet competitive, game of soccer against a team of International Security Assistance Force women (in gold) on April 1. The game ended with neither team scoring a goal, but the real goal of the game was met. The Afghan women had an opportunity to play their sport against another women's team.
The team does not get the opportunity to play against other teams in Afghanistan, so the game was chance for them to play a new opponent and build a relationship with women from several NATO countries, said Khalida, the coach, and a player of the Afghan Women's International Team.

For Hugin Users Group. This was an early experiment that didn't completely work. I wanted to capture the small craft and distant shore with extra detail so that there would be as much interest in that part of the picture as in the cruise ships. I wanted the eye to move out into the harbor and find all these interesting little details. To do that, I shot frames to the right at increasingly longer focal lengths and hoped that enblend could smoothly blend the differences in noise. Once you look for it, you see that it didn't really do this effectively. Noise changes rather abruptly at seams where the focal length changed. Note vertical bands of light and dark on the water are not stitching problems, but just reflections of the white ships on the dark water.
cwd1151 - Rembrandt Lighting (redux) ~ A repeat from Week 46. Here's Other Dave's original assignment description: Yo!
This was a really really hard assignment. I took over 50 shots & ended up with something that's still not great - but I'm pleased with the photo.
