Train Q150-12 leaves North Baltimore, Ohio passing the B&O depot under gloomy skies. The cloudy day is appropriate for CSX and North Baltimore, Ohio as the intermodal terminal located west of town, built new in 2011, is set to shutdown in the coming days.
CSX L080 flies west at Lower Main Street in North Berwick on a hot and sunny early-August afternoon in 2025. In the lead for the run down to Lawrence from Portland was MEC 5958, a GE B40-8 wearing a coat of Pan Am Railways blue paint.

The last ex-CR "Super 7" to remain in service on CSX, and the only one to ever receive YN3 paint, heads west on Q425 at Washington, MA. The 3185 was built as WP 2254 and, along with CSX 4607 (ex-L&N 1254), likely arrived in Springfield off a work train. The 4607 has since been cast off to the Waycross deadline and the 3185 was last known to be roaming the Ohio Central Railroad.
Light from the newly risen sun bounces freely off a CSX coal train facing east at the yards at Huntington, W.Va. From this spot, the train can head north along the Ohio River, or it can go east toward northern Virginia, or it can head south toward North Carolina. It depends on where the coal comes from and where it's going. About once a day, we get a train of Bakken crude oil through here headed for a refinery in Virginia.

CSX still has a bunch of SD40-2 locomotives in Service. The SD40-2 was the best locomotive ever made. Nothing else sounds as good on run 8 pulling a heavy load! 6,000 were produced between 1966 and 1986 in both SD40 and SD40-2 versions. Comments Appreciated. All photos Copyrighted.
